"a post for which he has the expertise and the gravitas"
There are many words for Trump, some of which are even in some sense complimentary, but I don’t think gravitas is one of them. Is Huckabee delusional or illiterate?

Huckabee isn't exactly an objective commentator here. Trump gave his daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a cushy cabinet appointment as White House Press Secretary despite any actual merit or talent for that position. Undoubtedly, her cabinet appointment helped launch her subsequent political career and was a major factor in her becoming Arkansas' current governor (where, I might add, she rolled back, inter alia childhood labor laws). Huckabee either explicitly or otherwise is indebted to Trump and I imagine he will continue to shill the most extreme takes in service of Trump through the 2024 electoral cycle.

Huckabee hates America. As an aside though: I'm not a big fan of "The Hill" and find they shill for the already powerful and wealthy. Anyone else had opinions on them?

For what it's worth, the Media Bias Chart has them leaning just slightly to the left of center for political bias. Edit: AllSides, who I'm much less familiar with, also has them charted at leaning...

It's literally a quote from a show Huckabee was on. The quote is the news being reported by the Hill. If you want to establish that Huckabee said "a thing", then the source is wherever he is recorded as saying "a thing." How on Earth could you establish that he said "a thing" if you aren't allowed to use the place he said it as a source?

Because we're not done LARPing Weimar Germany yet. Hitler went to a cushy jail for his sentence after inciting the Beer Hall Putsch, wrote Mein Kampf while imprisoned, ended up in public office and then expanded the scope of his power with the Reichstag Fire.
Trump incited an equally failed coup, and is racking up indictments. He'll probably end up under house arrest at best, and still plans on running for president even if he were to be incarcerated. Since he's too illiterate to write a book or plan for the next phase, he just foments on social media while his party plans the fascist rollout with "Project 2025" (dismantles federal agencies, solidifies additional power for the presidency, potentially criminalizes being transgender, among other things in its ~1000 pages).
If you tolerate fascism, you fall to fascism. Especially when people want to pretend it can't happen, despite history basically being used as an instruction manual.
I think our only saving grace may be that Trump can't really 'gain' supporters and time isn't on his side. That said, the damage is absolutely done and I don't know the way forward that doesn't...

That said, the damage is absolutely done and I don't know the way forward that doesn't involve violence of some kind.
“If these tactics end up working to keep Trump from winning or even running in 2024, it is going to be the last American election that will be decided by ballots rather than bullets,” Huckabee warned in his opening monologue.
As Trump campaigns for the White House in 2024 — after losing his reelection bid in 2020 to Biden — he’s been faced with multiple indictments on federal and state charges in courthouses across the country.
Although polling has indicated the various legal battles have actually boosted Trump in the GOP primary, some have argued they should be disqualifying.
“I know that there are a dozen or so other Republican candidates wanting to be the GOP nominee next year, and most of them were on the stage last week to audition for the job. But if you watched what was more a game show than a substantive debate, you realize none of them have the gravitas of Donald Trump,” Huckabee said.
Trump did not participate in the Republican National Committee’s first presidential debate last month.

Maybe it'll end this 247 year experiment to see how far capitalists can enslave people under the mistaken belief they can do anything with enough hard work.

At some point one has to seriously consider he thinks it's a fancy word for "weight."
I dont think he knows what that word means.
Wasn't Donald Trump literally a Game Show host? How long was The Apprentice on?
Yes!
Huckabee isn't exactly an objective commentator here. Trump gave his daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a cushy cabinet appointment as White House Press Secretary despite any actual merit or talent for that position. Just a point to quibble here, but WH Press Sec is NOT a cabinet position.
I also find it very interesting that Sarah Huckabee Sanders conveniently now tries to downplay the Huckabee part of her name and news outlets are happy to pretend the governor of Arkansas is a different person.

I have seen these charts before! I suppose for me, my calibration point is APNews is at the center, which is the key difference.
Agreed, who even quoted TBN as a viable news source. They are just as non biased as Fox and the others.
I don't understand your criticism at all.

I'm genuinely concerned that we're seeing this kind of stuff on Tildes.
I truly stand corrected.
I think he meant to say "Republicans will not be able to win an election without resorting to violence, since we absolutely dropped the mask too soon with Donald Trump and now the majority is against us solidly."
I'm not from the US so maybe I don't understand, but how is he not in prison for inciting a coup?
Because it is a political coup and his political party has stacked the courts and brokered favor with law enforcement at all levels
Because we're not done LARPing Weimar Germany yet. Hitler went to a cushy jail for his sentence after inciting the Beer Hall Putsch, wrote Mein Kampf while imprisoned, ended up in public office and then expanded the scope of his power with the Reichstag Fire.

Well he has been indicted for election interference, but I don't think the actual trial is until next year.
Julia Mueller
That's not how elections work, Mike. You're talking about a war.
Huckabee is some kind of "Christian" clergy.
How hypocritical of him to encourage national level violence.
I don't understand how, at a certain point, this doesn't become the equivalent of yelling "Fire" in a movie theatre. This is clearly advocating violence and trying to wrangle up one of their fetal alcohol syndrom goons to take one for the team
I think it already passed that point. Look at all of the republicans hoping for, and calling for another civil war.
If you think they're insufferable now, imagine what they're like after 2 Ls (and yes, I'm aware Lincoln's party was Republicans but they were opposite back then, or something. You don't have many Democrats still butthurt about it)
What are "2 Ls"?
The rhetoric really does concern me. Things that are repeated often tend to take on a life of their own and come into existence.
Ls = losses
Part of me wants him to win just to see how big this dumpster fire can get before something cracks. Now it sounds like it'll happen if he loses too. So I guess it'll be a win win for me. 🥳/🍿
