What are you going to go see? The National Cinema Day site allows you to search your closest participating theaters, so if you were not aware of this and have some free time today then search out a theater and get to watching a movie!
All I am seeing on the page is a Donate link. :( But to even see that much I had to create an exception to get past the Firefox Security Warning due to the site having an expired SSL Certificate:

Not sure about the security warning as I also use Firefox on both mobile and PC. There is a support email you could try here: http://info@thecinemafoundation.org/
Edit: The mobile link also says "Thank you for making National Cinema Day a success," so I am presuming that since it's late in the day that the information there has changed. That's not what the desktop site shows, and not what the mobile link had shown previously.

Although weirdly, checking the site on Chrome I get the version of site you all seem to be seeing, and no security warning. So maybe my Firefox security/privacy settings are just too strict for the site, so I get shuffled to some old version or something. :(

I wish I had some better answers for you, but I am not affiliated with the organization in any way. Just wanted to let people know about it if they had not already heard. Theaters are an expensive outing these days and being able to get there at such a discount is pretty nice. I saw the 70mm version of Oppenheimer for $4. It would have been a lot more than that otherwise.
If you're in Windsor and can get across the border for next year the Monroe Street drive in near the Renaissance Center does participate. I don't think any theaters in Canada do, though, as it's a national promotion for theaters within the States.
It was great! I highly recommend checking it out sometime. It feels like a fever dream of everything 90s teen grunge, in comic book form, takes some heavy inspiration from Big Hero Six, which is a...

This year I'm doing Talk to Me. I was thinking, maybe, the American Graffiti re-release but I'm not sure how worth it that would be considering I've already seen it a few times.
In terms of movies I haven't seen there's only Blue Beetle, Strays, Meg 2, Gran Turismo. And I don't have any interest in them. Thought about maybe rewatching Barbie, but I'll just wait until I can torrent that.

Regarding Gran Tursimo, I saw it last week with my youngest daughter (11) who--to my surprise--asked me to see it. I explained what it was about to make sure since she's fickle about movies, and off we went. I found it to be a video game-based version of 'Days of Thunder'. Should that peak your interest, then I'd say give it a whirl on day like today. Otherwise, wait for streaming to check it out at all.
I mention this knowing that the worst kind of vice is advice, especially the unsolicited kind...hahaha! Enjoy your viewing!
That's what I saw too. Maybe it's because I haven't seen a 3D movie in well over 10 years, so I don't have a great frame of reference for a well or poorly done one, but I didn't think it was that...

Maybe it's because I haven't seen a 3D movie in well over 10 years, so I don't have a great frame of reference for a well or poorly done one, but I didn't think it was that bad. Fantastic movie either way, well worth a rewatch if anyone hasn't seen it in a while. I forgot how many memes originate from it!
It's only the second annual occurrence. Now you know to keep the last Sunday in August on your radar. Apologies that you didn't see this in time. I'm not generally one to post topics, but I saw...

Apologies that you didn't see this in time. I'm not generally one to post topics, but I saw that this didn't have a dedicated post (though I have seen it mentioned within other posts) and decided to make my first and only submission. Hope you get the chance to join us next year!
I had a similar response, but I felt like there is no point to post it, other than to try and make people feel bad. WWRD? What Would Reddit Do? Think about that and then do the opposite. As a real...

As a real response, I'm fortunate enough to get off work at 12:30 PM, so my partner and I watch movies early on Tuesdays with an empty theater for $5. I'd take that over $4 in a crowded theater any day.

I went and saw Oppenheimer on 70mm, great experience!

Ah well, at least I can check it out on Chrome.

Bought tickets for it a few days ago for today, so the new TMNT, really looking forward to it.

I read that like this.
My local cinema only offers a deal on popcorn, not admission :(
I wish I had known earlier so I could go. Unfortunately, the film I wanted to see most, Oppenheimer, is already out of my local cinema.
Keep an eye out for it next year. This is the second annual National Cinema Day. I believe the plan is to keep it going on the last Sunday of August.
Seeing a rerelease of American Graffiti
We saw Jurassic Park in 3D. Made for a nice night, even if the conversion was really goofy and everyone looked like cardboard cutouts.

Well, I sure wish I saw this post BEFORE the day was over, or if someone posted this a few days beforehand as a warning!

I saw blue beetle and really enjoyed it.
It is a decent, by the numbers super hero film so it was a lot easier to enjoy at $4.
Honestly I wouldn't go see a movie for $4. Not when I can be more entertained from more genuine sources for free on the internet.
I genuinely do not know what the point of this comment is.

To say that I wouldn't see a movie even if it was $4?
