I feel like Jake can easily pull me into a character. Both Prisoners and Night Crawler made me see their respective characters and not Gyllenhaal in the slightest. Of course, I have also seen a few films where he is the same exact character despite being in very different movies. I will admit this movie feels like generic action movie Gyllenhaal though.
Makes me wonder if it’s the script or director that leads to the massive gap in performances.
Care to expand on that? Why don't you like Jake Gyllenhaal? (genuinely asking) IMO McGregor can't act for shit because he's not an actor... he's an MMA fighter, and his behavior both in and...

IMO McGregor can't act for shit because he's not an actor... he's an MMA fighter, and his behavior both in and outside the UFC are why I can't stand him as a person. But I personally think Gyllenhaal is a damn fine actor and I've enjoyed plenty of his work; Nightcrawler, Enemy, Prisoners, End of Watch, Brokeback, Donnie Darko, etc. And I've also never heard anything bad about his actions in real life, so I have nothing against him as a person either (unlike McGregor, who is a piece of shit).
My issue with him is not so much about his acting and more about his general personality. He genuinely seems like a simpleton with very little going on upstairs.

Nah he’s a pretty smart guy from every interview I’ve seen from him. He went to Columbia University for two years before he dropped out to act full time. It’s funny you say that though cause he...

Ok, can you expand on that opinion then? What have you seen that makes him seem like "A simpleton with very little going on upstairs?" I'll be honest, though, just your wording makes me highly...

I'll be honest, though, just your wording makes me highly suspect that your opinion isn't feelings based.
Give me your second most recent example, cuz the world's most benign late night questionnaire answers, such as "What's the scariest animal" might not be the best example of someone's mental prowess.

Why does that matter? He sure can act and has range (though for some reason he seems to pick a bunch of middling projects). I don't understand why'd he need to be smart off screen. As long he's...

Looked like a fun movie until he appeared.. definitely skipping it and it also really lowers my respect of Gyllenhaal a lot (also Liman) that he would be in a movie with that kind of a person.....

Is he at the level where he'd be able to force that? Seems to me like he has more to gain from starring in a movie than the movie itself (presuming he's eyeing for more movie roles).

I wouldn't be surprised. Even if he wanted that, he could shop around and it wouldn't take more than two or three to give it to him. Most of the assholes in Fast and Furious have it. If he plays...

If he plays it right, he could have a decent career as a baddie, even if his range is limited.
It's so weird because it's clearly yet another copy paste basic action script with a name people recognize. The whole cult following of Roadhouse is it's so so stupid but still fun. The idea is...

The idea is absurd, and it's INSANELY low stakes. Now we've exploding water chases. If you're going to do a soulless remake, just do it right?
Looked good right up until Conor McGregor showed up. I really hope his part is extremely limited. I can't stand the guy, and he can't act for shit.
I feel the same about jake
Gyllenhaal is a great actor lol

It’s funny you say that though cause he did a Wired interview with Ryan Reynolds a few years ago where he says “I come across as someone who’s not very sharp.”
Oh, well, if that's the case....

The most recent example I have is his answers to the Colbert Questionert.

This is just a trick to get me to consume content I just told you I disliked. Nice try, bucko.

assuming it happens, good on McGregor for not having a lame clause where he can’t lose a fight.

He keeps trying but I just can't see him as a tough guy. Maybe I've watched Donnie Darko too many times.
Yay another soulless remake
