I haven't seen any of the other Coppola films..... But the cast looks to be very impressive

Yeah, they started doing that a while ago so they can get the title in before you hit the skip ad button.

Which has frustratingly permeated into Tiktok and other short form stuff as well. Random clips from comedies will start with the punchline and end with the build up to it. Drives me bonkers.

I'm not sure where to start....I strongly disliked Conrad's The Heart of Darkness, on which Apocalypse Now is based. I have a negative avoidance response to mob films about terrible people doing terrible things to other people; I still watch them but very rarely. Last one was The Departed / Infernal Affairs 10+ nearly 20 years ago. And I don't want to watch Dracula for the creepy esthetics. I might have to circle back round to Godfather after Megalopolis if it ends up being intriguing (doesn't have to be good or liked).

Maybe Rainmaker? (Just watched the trailer) Because "there's nothing more thrilling than nailing the insurance company".

It sounds like his stuff might just not be for you. His daughter has done a lot of really interesting and amazing work as well and might find her style easier to get into!

I was a power user on there from like 2017-2019. I remember when I started using it there were only a handful of active users posting, and we all had similar sensibilities. We all liked The Last Jedi so that became a subreddit consensus. I remember my dislike of YMS ended up becoming mainstream through my posts on there.

        Interesting times.

My biggest claim to fame on there is posting a poster of fucked up photoshopped monster of one of the right wing nuts (not Shapiro) and titling it as Taika Waititi's Akira (20xx) aand getting banned over and over again for some reason. Now it all just seems funny.

I was on that subreddit a LOT...I had some very good posts on it, people are saying they were the best of all time...but then I got banned for being racist but they wouldn't explain what I had done that was racist. It was funny because pretty much my favorite thing to do on the subreddit was to make fun of racists. The subreddit had definitely been getting worse by that point, so it wasn't the biggest deal, but it was a bit sad given how much I had enjoyed it throughout the years.

I also got banned from /r/gamingcirclejerk for a comment where I was supporting the mods, so that was weird, but I never subscribed and never really enjoyed that subreddit so it wasn't a big loss.

I also used to be on r/criterion a lot back in 2020/21 but sometime in the past two years it went downhill towards a lot of low effort posts.

What's up with the Morpheus voiceover?

I did like the blurbs of bad reviews. That part was quite funny.

I will definitely see this regardless of the trailers.

Yeah I think so too. Though I did notice that for The Godfather, they cited two lines from the same critic, but separated them by a different one to make it seem like it was 3 different critiques. Of course I wasn't even alive when that movie released so I have no idea what the reception of it was upon release and maybe it was not as critically praised initially as it came to be later, but using the same critic review twice on that movie makes it seem more like they were stretching it to fit the narrative that he's always been poorly received by critics initially only to be redeemed later. It's also possible that it wasn't critically well received but they just really liked those two lines that guy wrote about The Godfather and wanted to use them more than other stuff critics said at the time, or perhaps there just were so few critics back then that getting panned by 2 critics was a large percentage of critics. In any case, it's overall still very effective and persuasive to me.

I actually gained no insight into what this movie is about by watching the trailer. Perhaps that is a good thing oddly, since trailers that tease what the movie is about sometimes give away too much about climactic moments.

Seems kind of disingenuous to use the same critic piece twice to build a narrative. The other thing is that no movies are without at least one critical opinion, even a masterpiece will have some decision or inattentive moment which is entirely the critics' job to point out, even if overall they loved the movie.

The other day an Ebert review was linked, and his opinion was that movies are worth watching, even if bad.

The narrative that the trailer presented is that critics (1) universally (2) hated the film (3) because the geniuses were ahead of their times. Obviously it's not an essay and has no responsibility to put supporting arguments behind any of those claims. That's the difference between a critique and a puff piece.

Unlike Borderlands, which is just bad in a very bland and uninteresting way.

Trash fire or wonderful or anything between I do think that it’ll actually be unique which is something lacking in many movies these days.
