Offtopic. I added the spoiler tag to this because it basically reveals everything about the whole movie and I kinda regret watching it because of that. So hopefully the tag helps others who don't want to be entirely spoiled by a trailer avoid that happening to them. :/

Totally off topic. Have you ever not regretted watching a trailer?

A24 usually does a good job of not ruining the movies in their trailers.

Some trailers can be well done when they just show you a bit about what the movie is about. Like give me the setting and a hook. Show me something to be interested in so that I'll sit through 2 more hours of it. But lately a ton of trailers go through the entire plot, including the climax and twist and everything. Like fuck why do I need to watch the movie when I've already seen the major plot points in advance?

I've stopped watching trailers almost entirely given the prevalence of spoilers. I'll still watch some for video games, because for those I still want to see what the gameplay is like. But if the game is mostly about the story, or in the case of TV shows and movies where the story is the entire reason to watch, then I've found it easier to just read the tag lines rather than watching trailers that are almost always full of spoilers.

To give a specific example: the Kung Fury 2 trailer was posted here a couple days ago and it was incredible. Spoiled the whole thing, but given that the highlight of the movie is the over-the-top parody, and not so much the story, I didn't mind having the plot twists spoiled for me and would still love to see the movie when/if it comes out.

Ahh, didn't realize. Thanks for the info. Still served as a trailer for me, and did exactly what I hate about trailers (spoiled the whole thing), yet I loved it and would love to watch more. So I guess the takeaway is that if the story is the important part, then I definitely don't want it spoiled for me, which a lot of trailers tend to do nowadays. But if the story is secondary to something else, then spoilers don't matter as much and I don't mind watching the trailer.

The trailer for Bullet Train was the reason I went to see it in theaters with my dad. Went in expecting a fun action film with lots of humor, was pleasantly surprised to realize it was also really clever and had a proper plot with plenty of twists and turns.

Then there's the English trailer for the original Godzilla. Saw it as an extra on the DVD in a high school class, and "GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS" lives in my head to this day. Just hyping up Godzilla, tells you nothing of the drama that unfolds with the humans. Trailer is slower paced than I remember actually xD

That said, some trailers are so bad they make it immediately clear the movie is going to be awful, so they save the waste of a couple hours.

Turns out it doesn't matter at all actually. Spoilers tend to enhance viewing pleasure because it stops people from getting bogged down in minutiae and just enjoy the how and not the what. Basically, you enjoy the ride more. Action movie or detective, we all know the princess is in another castle in the end.

There's a reason movie trailers spoil incessantly.

Doesn't mean people won't get raging mad at you for doing it though.

Depends on the type of spoiler. Not having to worry about the dog or your favorite character dying is one thing. But then you get the giant twists that change everything, and knowing them ahead of time totally changes the experience. I know I have several media I wish I'd experienced fully blind, because the big reveal just doesn't hit the same when you know what's about to happen.

The thing that really worked for Nobody, was we truly believed Hutch was a nobody.

A similar thing worked for The Accountant, but even more so, as there were multiple characters we cared about that we were learning about as they went through one of the most difficult day of their lives.

The Accountant 2 lacked that magic. We already knew about most of the characters, and those we didn't know, did we really care about them?

A similar thing happened with Batman Begins, but it flipped the script with The Dark Knight, and we cared more about the villain, and we learned more about the villain, which really, really worked. Batman was a two dimensional figure next to vibrancy of The Joker, which made the movie that much more interesting.

I refuse to watch trailers on principle, but I wonder if Nobody will flip the script and make us care about a new Nobody? Because that is the essence of the first movie.

Having watched Nobody recently, it set up space for a sequel, and I was interested in seeing a sequel but also recognized the sequel will probably not be as good. The other issue they will face is that Odenkirk is 62, so he might start slowing down in action sequences like Keanu Reeves has in the later installations of the John Wick franchise.

I think their best bet for doing a second Nobody is to have his brother and dad as the main characters, not Hutch. Especially with the ending sequence in the RV, there is space for mayhem. I also just enjoyed Hutch's shotgun happy dad, and would be interested to watch more of that.
