I hope there are a lot more people like you. And assuming you had been voting Republican and not third party or abstaining, I hope you get a sane Conservative Party to vote for in the coming years.

Yes, I skipped voting in 2012 but I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020. I simply don't see myself going back to the Republican Party. I am no longer a Christian and I do not like the government overreach they want in the name of Christianity (anti-abortion, Project 2025, anti-LBGTQ people). I am fiscally conservative but I think Kamala will do better for the LBGTQ community, women, and not letting the pharmaceutical industry get away with everything. I hear Trump wants to take away Medicare's ability to negotiate drug prices. Fuck that.

For people in a state that does not allow absentee voting without a reason where religious observance is a valid justification (like my home state of Tennessee), I'll just point out that the Church of Universal Suffrage exists and is an officially registered religious organization in several states, and has members and ministers across all 50 states (per their FAQ).

The church is open to everyone (you can join instantly by filling out a web form) and observes all U.S. voting days as holy days of celebration. So by becoming a member you will qualify for the religious exemption in your state and can request an absentee ballot to vote by mail.

I'm also a minister of Universal Life, it's a delight to pull that out as a conversation topic at parties. I've even performed 2 weddings. One of them was a good idea.

I had two witnesses and two air cannons pre-loaded with the craft store's finest. (Literally, I prefer the ultra fine stuff. It gets everywhere)

Sharing this here because we are a month out from the election, so it is a good time to check your registration status and register if you are not already. I was surprised to find that my status was inactive, and I had to update my address.

Don't forget that many states have same-day registration as well, but always good to get done ahead of time.

Yeah but it's mine! Already got to vote by mail. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound presumptuous.

Spilled a beverage on it? If you can't get a new one quickly early voting is very nice. No crowds, a time of your choosing. You just walk in and vote. No lines.

I’ve already emailed the county. There is theoretically an online form to request a new ballot but it didn’t appear to be working.

Michigan - just mailed it yesterday. I love the absentee ballot laws here. In Florida, you were legally required to have proof that you couldn't vote in person. I'd always sweat if I thought I'd be traveling on Election Day, requested an absent ballot, and the trip got rescheduled. You could also get in trouble if you requested an absentee ballot and then showed up to vote in person. Vote for people who want you to vote, and are competent and unbiased in determining that you've only voted once.

PSA: Vote411.org is an excellent resource for finding out how and where to vote, as well as the ballot measures and candidates for your locality. You can also see their political position statements if they respond to the non-partisan questionnaire. Donate to the League of Women Voters if you appreciate this site - it's indispensable in a time when local news is scarce.

I’m ready to vote on all sorts of ballot measures worded specifically to be as confusing as possible!

Same! For those that don't know, ballotpedia.org and votesaveamerica.com are great resources to help breakdown your ballot measures to make them much more readable and easier to understand.

I'd also recommend looking at local news media outlets. If you don't have a newspaper, try the NPR or PBS stations.
