Those guidelines aren't gonna steer you wrong, but there are some nuances to psilocybin which may lead you to reconsider the dose. Firstly, it is not stimulating in the same way as LSD, it's pretty much exclusively cognitive. This means a lot more of the trip can be spent in your own head. That can be dangerous if you're not prepared for it. Be ready to not actually do anything except curl in a ball under a blanket and think.
There's this narrative you may have heard in psychedelic-using circles that you can "control the trip" better on acid, and that's not quite true. What is true? LSD is a very potent stimulant, and stimulants tend to help for the mind to regulate emotion. Without that dopaminergic side, mushrooms can be like being taken on a tour of your own mind. Beyond that, most people seem to find acid more conceptually engaging, systems and puzzles and intricacy, where mushrooms are very emotional, human, and spiritual. Somewhat ironically, they seem less likely to trigger that "I've just discovered a major secret of the universe" delusion.
Psilocybin is thereby less reliably recreational. Be prepared to be nauseous for the come up, to want to avoid bright lights and cold, feel like you're poisoned, regret everything, to want to just melt into nothingness. Don't let that scare you, because the internal hallucinations can be stellar, the thoughts that strike can be beautiful and hilarious, and the process of rebuilding yourself once the terror has ended is insightful and ecstatic.
I won't share any particular stories, since most of my trips have been therapeutic and/or ill-advised, and so visceral and extremely dark. That's mostly just my lovely brain though. As @teaearlgraycold said, it's not a waste to shoot low; some of the best trips I've had were between 1-2 g, as deep, just less terror. Have a great trip.

I think you just scared me (I'm not OP though) out of ever trying mushrooms! Basically everything you described is what happens when I smoke weed. It feels like my ADHD fuels my anxiety and it turns into this awful rapid-fire deconstruction of who I am as a person and then attacking every single aspect of it. That has proven useful in the past as a way to recognize non-ideal behavior and thinking, but most of the time it's just beating myself up in my head for an hour or two in a non-productive manner. I absolutely hate it, but sometimes it works out and I'm able to relax and enjoy music, comedies, or trippy videos way more than I usually do.
So if mushrooms are more of that, then I will certainly be avoiding them! LSD still interests me though.

This is tricky to discuss, since it really is so personal. In general though, LSD is much more psychotomimetic than mushrooms. That vicious self-dissection is nearly compulsive on acid for me, like a neurotypical person manically cleaning their room on adderall, except it's every layer of personality and knowledge. It's more recreational because it makes you want to dance, go on long walks, talk, all those social things, but if you're anything like me, being alone on LSD is much more dangerous than psilocybin. Mushrooms just don't let you get distracted from whatever's on your mind. They make you sit and consider, but they don't trick you into thinking that it's Literally The Most Important Endeavor of Humanity for you to self-flagellate.

Yeah, this definitely matches the experiences of some friends with ADHD; for me my neurodiverse traits tend to come out more because it's harder to mask when the brain-snowglobe gets shaken up. That said, some strains of cannabis make this so so much worse than others, and that there's a nice space of strains that help me find a really compassionate space about my brain and help bring some focus into interactions with others. But, obviously, set/setting/person makes things different.
I've thought of it metaphorically; weed makes me feel more like a teenager (maybe like 11 years old). I'm a bit out of it, I'm more self-centered, but I can meet myself there and learn some lovely things. LSD makes me feel like my memories of being a 5-6 year old. I try to hold that just as "not bad, just different", especially as I'll feel further and further from neurotypical folks, especially strangers. I'd feel the same way if I was 11, or if I was 5.
Could you share which you've had luck with? I miss the good of cannabis, because the bad was overwhelming. This was pre-medical though.

I can try! I used to have a really good handle on what worked for my body...and then I started HRT and literally everything was different. So.
Kushes don't really work for me, or anything that's skunky; for me, most "classic stoner weed" makes me feel dumber, in a way that I really don't enjoy. My hypothesis is that Kushes are part of why so many folks have a bad first experience -- if you're smoking whatever your "stoner friend" (or whatever) has on hand, it might be great for them and pretty terrible for you. Some sort of Kush in the lineage is prevalent in most strains, mostly I just look for things that are balanced out with something else (i.e. GSC is great, Durban Poison balances the Kush parent pretty well.
I'll throw out, also, that getting the same strains from two different growers could give pretty different effects. Some folks try to maximize THC content, which (in my experience) tends to lead to a lot more anxiousness/unhappiness, instead of growing something that's well balanced across the spectrum of cannabis and terpenes. For a metaphor, most folks probably prefer balanced tomatoes, rather than super duper acidic tomatoes, even if they primarily use them to add acidity to food. If you can buy legally, strains around 15-20% THC are probably going to feel way better than 25-30%.
People are really, really different, so I usually suggest that folks go into a shop (or meet a friend, or whatever) and smell as many things as they can, and go with whatever smells best. I used to really enjoy really orangy sativas (durban poison is a prime example), now those are way too much for me and I'll lean more towards tropical fruits (think daytime at a beach mood) or dark fruits (think relaxing in the evening with wine/plum dessert). Getting fancier, caryophyllene dominant strains have been good for me pre/post HRT (Pineapple Express, Mimosa, GSC, Gorilla Glue, Purple Punch), though we really have no idea how terpenes work because we basically know nothing about weed. My partner and I both think of Girl Scout Cookies (and many derivatives) as journaling weed --- I can notice more of the connections between my thoughts and ask questions about those connections.
It's rough in spaces that aren't legal, but if you're excited to find out what works for you, just try a bunch of things, go really slow (especially if it's been a while) and jot down a few notes about what you like and what you don't like. Comparative tasting is pretty hard with cannabis (effects are 3-4 hours with smoking, which is long enough to forget how things felt specifically), but the granularity can be pretty broad, maybe just "I'm having a lot of negative self-talk" or "I feel like my focus is all over the place" or "my heart's feeling calm". Buy grams, just try lots of things out! Also, feel free to message if you want to talk more, I readily joke that weed made me trans, but only because I found strains that worked for me and had space to explore what was coming up.

Definitely don't take all 3.5g in one shot for a first time. Start with 1.5 or 2g and after an hour or two decide if you want to ratchet things up. IMO smaller doses of shrooms are still fun and useful. Even 0.3g gives me a very noticeable effect. You won't be wasting your shrooms to break it into one medium and one small dose.

3.5 is a high dose ? Man it's a very high dose! Did 3g like 20 years ago and hallucinated like a madman.
I speak for myself but I always had a good time when doing it in a cabin in the woods (taking about 1g, 1.5g max per time), where you can just be yourself and ride the trip wherever it gets you. In the city I would not feel good. You usually don't want people to enter your "safe zone" so to speak. You want to appeal to your senses while high, so I would do activities in that vein. Music, drawing, painting, thinking/philosophy. When I think about it there was a time where it was very fun in an appartment, we had some lights of different colors (blue and green) and dish soap. We spent maybe 2 hours making bubbles in the dining room with our hands. It was insane. You don't need much while tripping to have fun. Just to feel (and be) safe.
Good luck and have fun!
Edit : Also, it usually starts with a little tummy ache, so don't worry it's normal. And it may take some time before it starts, so don't ingest another 1g if you feel like the first intake does nothing.

I've had high doses of acid (600ug) and high doses of shrooms (5oz or so)
On acid, I felt awash in childlike wonder and I saw the smiling skull-animal me behind my eyes. The world around me shimmered and undulated, and cypress trees looked like magical towers of green fire.
On shrooms, my animal skull face self was tightly defined and painted in a repeating pattern against a marble tile palace, like a place of worship filled with a mixture of dia de los muertes art and beijing Opera masks. Then I "died" and spiralled down a dark tunnel of those faces, until I found myself flying next to a cliff far above a vast ocean of faces.
I would advise getting as comfy as you can, and listening to the music you truly love. Also, do this with intention. Don't do it unless you really want to. Make sure there is no chance you'll get interrupted or have to interact with anyone besides your loved one.
Solid advice. Although even that requires a caveat IMO, since your mention of interacting with loved ones brings back some bad memories of me having to interact with my parents while I was on...
Make sure there is no chance you'll get interrupted or have to interact with anyone besides your loved one.
Solid advice. Although even that requires a caveat IMO, since your mention of interacting with loved ones brings back some bad memories of me having to interact with my parents while I was on shrooms one Halloween night, back when I was still in high school. What a nightmare that was!
After talking to them about the interaction years later, they said they simply thought I was just either drunk and/or high from smoking weed, so largely shrugged off my peculiar behavior that night. So apparently they had no idea (at the time) that I was actually tripping balls. But even if that was truly the case, and they were ignorant of what I had done, it didn't matter much since I thought for sure they knew I was tripping at that time, which made the whole interaction incredibly anxiety inducing for me, which didn't set a great tone for the rest of the night.
And it certainly didn't help that same night also involved going to a friend's Halloween costume party, which also made for an even more "interesting" experience too. I handled it alright, but one of my best friends who was also tripping had a reeeeeally bad time with it, wound up freaking out, leaving the party without telling anyone, and falling asleep on the side of the road somewhere... where he was eventually found by the cops, and sent to the "drunk tank" at the station until his parents finally came to pick him up some time the next morning. So going to large parties while tripping on psychedelics, especially costume parties, is also definitely not recommended! :P
That experience, and several more like it from my youth, is why I only ever do mushrooms these days in my own back yard, at friend's cottages, or while camping, and only ever with close friends around who are either going to be tripping along with me, or are fully aware of the fact that I will be and can be trusted to act appropriately. So my advice would be more along the lines of, "only trip in place where you won't have to interact with any outside people (especially authority figures), and try your best to prepare ahead of time so you won't have to go anywhere where those sorts of awkward interactions may happen."

Try a gram the first time, max, and have someone there to check in and make you're not having twitchy muscles, sweating, and/or shivering/fever. Better yet, microdose a couple of times and see how well you tolerate it; watch out for elevated blood pressure and tremors. I'm using a low dose of an SSRI, and can tolerate microdosing, but had fever, sweating, and tremors with 1 gm of dried cubensis Cambodian strain.
Though very serious reactions are rare, no one wants to be in the ER tripping.

It seems like you've got some good rules. If your lucy trips went okay then shrooms should be a breeze.
Lucy felt like a 9-hour mind roller coaster, unveiling layers of recursive epiphany as false notions crumble away...a grand unification of disparate personalities, as synapses intertwine. Which is maybe why it isn't fully 'comfortable'.
In comparison, Shrooms felt like laying on the beach for 4 hours with the sun on your belly - time and thought melting and slow - just staring at sparkles in the water. Knowing peace beyond words and being glad in it.
Psychs seem to amplify whatever feelings you're having already - so could be good to do some breathing and stretching beforehand, to get in a calm groove.
(but you seem like you'd already do that though).

I took 3.5g (1/8oz) my first time doing shrooms. I had a very good trip—it was fairly intense and I never felt scared, anxious, or otherwise negative. That's not a reckless dosage if you've done other psychedelics, but the advice of others on this thread about smaller doses is perfectly valid.
Note that I was feeling very good that day beforehand, and I tripped with several close friends (one of whom was sober and keeping an eye on us) and we were in a very safe, naturalistic environment. I spent a lot of time exploring, touching, looking, listening, and moving. I spent very little time in my own head. I was reasonably energetic that day and the mushrooms enhanced the effect greatly.
My biggest takeaway was that I was deeply and intrinsically connected to everything in the entire world. I could feel the way my body existed in relation to the ground and the trees and all else surrounding me, and conflict felt pointless and insignificant. I enjoyed this very much.
Some other times I have taken shrooms, I have been in much more of a "vibe out" mood. Your experience will depend almost exclusively on how you feel going into the trip and the stimuli surrounding you. To some extent, this means you can sort of manifest a good trip, within reason—this is what I did my first time. Don't lie to yourself, though. If you're not feeling good, just try another day.
Seriously, do not take any drugs when you're in a bad headspace!
P.S. I personally recommend spending time outdoors on shrooms! Sitting and watching something trippy on a TV can be nice, but the most interesting part about this drug is the way it changes all your senses—not just sight. But even if you don't have a safe, secluded outdoor area to do shrooms, you will still have a great time. It is a really fun experience.

Each person is unique, so start slow?
Shrooms always feel longer to come on, so be patient, and an empty stomach is best.
In general acid is fine in doors at raves or outdoors in nature.
The optimal shrooms experience is likely outdoors in nature in the sun.
Oh yeah, they kinda taste like shit, so maybe have a delightfully refreshing cup of juice as a chaser?
Have a merry berry time!
I don’t have it handy but it should be easy to locate on google: there’s a bad trip hotline. May you never need it.
