Washington debate discussion thread
Admittedly I deleted and re-uploaded this because I was worried I had posted the original thread too soon.
A'ight, here we are. Spreadsheet time.
When will the debate be broadcasted?
The debate will be recorded March 15th, 8-10 PM ET. (1-3 AM UTC)
Where will it happen?
In the CNN studio in Washington DC. Note that they moved it from Phoenix due to the Coronavirus.
Who will moderate it?
Dana Bash and Jake Tapper from CNN and Ilia Calderón from Telemundo.
Where can I watch this?
It will most likely be livestreamed in CNN's YouTube channel. it was livestreamed on CNN's website.
So, what's new and how will this change anything?
This is the first and possibly the last one-on-one debate in the primary between Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden and (also due to Coronavirus concerns) It has no live audience. It will also occur before some of the largest states in the primary vote.
So what do you think should happen? What questions should be asked? What should the candidates do and what should we talk about?
Between this and immediately going back on a threat to name off Bernies alleged 9 super pacs (because he can't), Biden's spewing a lot of bullshit.
Wait, he claimed Bernie has super pacs? Is he living under a rock?
Even people that don't like Sanders have probably seen 10 "Once Again Asking for Your Support" adds.
I absolutely love this format. No audience, the moderators are staying out of it (for the most part), the candidates are addressing each other --- this is excellent. I really hope they keep this format, pandemic or not.
Am I the only that thinks Biden referring to the Ebola epidemic is getting repetitive?
Please, please don't let it be Clinton.
I feel like it's either going to be Harris, Warren, or Amy K. Harris is from a safely blue state and would appeal to the black vote. Warren is from a blue state (less solid) and would appeal to progressives. Amy K. is from the risky state but has potential appeal to moderate midwesterners, which are somehow the most important voting bloc in this country. If it's Clinton, the entire country will lose its mind.
Harris basically called him a racist.
Warren got into politics because of the debt bill Biden helped pass.
Amy K is going to repel progressives.
Not sure who it could be, honestly.
Tulsi? Or Stacy Abrams, or a #squad member?
Clinton accused Tulsi of being a Russian agent, don't think she'll get the VP nod. Then again, we apparently live in the dumbest timeline. A member of the squad, I could kind of see but I don't think it's likely. Biden's too old for the establishment to want to risk a President Tlaib.
Maybe he'll get confused and pick Sarah Palin
Edit: or Susan Collins, just to remind progressives where they stand in the party.
My money's on Warren
I'd be fine with Amy, Warren, and even Tulsi.
Just not Hillary. No more bushes, no more clintons.
hear! hear!
Makes sense with her unwillingness to endorse and "need of space", as in needs the space in her office to see which of the two is offering her the highest position in the cabinet.
But Biden already wins the black vote? His whole pitch is being vice of black pres Obama and Harris wouldn't really appeal to younger black people since they back progressives.
If I were a betting man I would bet everything it's not Clinton. Honestly, after how terribly she performed in the general, I have no idea why people expect Biden to pick her. I think you can rest easy.
And if this ages poorly then we truly are in the dumbest timeline. Not even centrist wonks want Clinton.
Somehow, betting markets have Hillary as the #2 favorite to win the Democratic nomination for President, ahead of even Bernie. https://www.predictit.org/markets/detail/3633/Who-will-win-the-2020-Democratic-presidential-nomination
I saw that the other day... anyone know why that might be?
Inb4 Biden/Romney ticket /s
What in the world did Hillary Clinton do to be so hated?
If she was so hated then why did no one other than Sanders ever get past 10% of primary votes to challenge her? Did people hate her but not seriously consider anyone else? Has this 'electability' meme been around for a while?
That would put me back in third party voting mode instantly.

IMO I think they should talk about what 'compromise' will mean in a potential Biden presidency and how this may affect potential legislation going through such a presidency.
This debate makes me want to bang my head on the table until I brain myself into a coma. Is this pathetic, rambling old man dick-measuring contest really the best we can do in America?
I can say their responses right along with them almost word for word. /facepalm
The irony is Bernie has spoken multiple times in interviews that he thinks the debates are a total joke. The only reason he participates is because its expected, he doesn't think they are of much value to the American people.
Link/Source?
It's literally the first thing they talk about in his Joe Rogan interview, if you have not seen it it's worth a watch.
It's by far the best interview with an American politician I have ever seen.
I believe he also made a comment about it on Fallon a couple weeks ago but I forget what episode it was. It's not really something that needs to be sourced, he is well known for his dislike of the televised debate format.
"Noone can explain the complexity of Healthcare in 45 seconds so that encourages people to come up with soundbites and do absurd things like if I yelled on stage or took my shirt off it would get a lot of media attention bit a thoughtful answer to a complicated question just isn't as sexy for the media."
Damn. He's correct though, we should probably replace the debates with something like a PowerPoint Presentation/AMA between the candidates, where any candidate/moderator can just look up the others' records or statements and do a fact-check with ease, along with allowing the candidates to speak at length.
