I just wanted to say that since I joined I've never looked back
... and we're only a few bunch on an alpha website.
While actually the fact of being a small group could be playing a big role in this feeling, it just feel good to realise that some unrest I was feeling in the last months was just due to lack of meaningful discussions.
I was finding myself checking Reddit over and over (the meme about Reddit as an empty refrigerator feel terribly apt today) while I check here a couple times a day and get some interesting insight every. Single. Time.
So, enough rambling and just tank you @Deimos to put this up, that mod from reddit/science that made me discover this platform and every single one of you for providing some quality conversation :)
Keep going on!
Thanks, everyone. This is nice to hear, and it's really encouraging that people are already finding it active enough for this to even be a possibility. It hasn't even been a week yet since the main point where it "went public", so that's awesome. There have been so many other community site attempts where they never get past the stage of "the creator and 4 other users posting", so it's exciting that Tildes is already active enough that I feel like I can't keep up.
However, this is definitely the honeymoon period. Everyone's playing nice and being civil, but it can't stay that way for too long. Small communities are almost always good, but it'll take a lot of effort for it to keep working as it grows. So far I'm quite happy with the decision to start out as invite-only, since I think it'll help a ton to build up a good base culture and figure out some issues before opening it up more.
I'm the exact same. I only look back at reddit maybe one time when I wake up just for stuff that is not here yet, but otherwise I'm just looking here when I have a couple of minutes throughout the day and finding something that interests me almost every time.
reddit is worse than an empty refrigerator. It's a refrigerator with some expired tartar sauce and one raw egg.
100% agree. Haven’t heard the refrigerator analogy before and it’s very apt.
I knew I was mentally done with reddit as a place for thoughtful exchanges for quite some time. It's nice to have a place where thoughtful content does exist and can get me thinking about life.
So I share the sentiment.
+1 Most of the discussions here have been a breath of fresh air! I hope the feeling of community doesn't go away as the site gets grows.
Thanks @Deimos! I feel the same. I've been ready to get off reddit for a while. Though I have to admit, I'm still going there for my daily cute kitty gifs...
I haven't switched over completely because of a few communities and mod duties, but I definitely see myself staying here long term, especially once the redesign rolls out. Like you said, every time I come here I get nothing but actual genuine interactions, or if I'm just lurking, great discussion to read through.
If it wasn't for modding, I'd have probably spent all my time here recently. I'm loving this site, the best Reddit alternative I've seen since imzy (R.I.P). I sincerely hope this takes off.
I ripped of the bandaid and just haven't visited Reddit at all. Actually, it was a double bandaid rip because I dropped Twitter at the same time.
I agree. I was actually trying to cut down on reddit usage, and well, now I don't use reddit nearly as much. I've really enjoyed this place, and I can't wait to see how it develops in the future :D
I am enjoying going through various topics and comments here. But my experience with Reddit is not bad, may be it's just because I browse selected subreddits like r/emacs, r/commandline and few others. I enjoy those subreddits as there's always something new and interesting to learn and discussions are civil.
The sad thing is there are such great communities on Reddit. The dealbreakers for me have been the tolerance of Nazis, et. al, and the redesign, among other things.
