Tildes helped my wife find work!
So a few weeks back someone posted an article here about Super Recognizers. These are people that can instantly remember 80% of a persons face and can identify that face easily later on. It talked about how these people are getting hired by police departments across the world.
It caught my attention because my wife has always been freakishly good at facial recognition and recall. Well, she took the test, which led to another test, and today she received her official invitation to join Super Recognizers International!
This is a big deal because her company is about to go under and she has been considering leaving lately. This will open up doors for her to find work she can do from home on a flexible schedule. Thanks @skybrain for posting that article and thank you to the Tildes community for being here!
@skybrian also warned us about COVID. He's saving lives, finding jobs, all from the comfort of his computer.
He has my vote for
tilderino, rookie, ahhh.... user of the year?We should probably start collecting nominations for best of the year if that's something we want to do.
Um, it's nice and all, but this is just random luck. Let's not get carried away. I don't think we need to be handing out awards.
So humble, too. I think I have a man crush ;)
Very cool! Congrats!
I had not heard of super recognizers until today. I took a basic test and got 12 out of 14 correct. That's kinda cool. It makes sense that I'm okay at facial recognition, since that's how I tend to remember people. I don't remember names very well, usually just faces. Though it won't be major details of faces, so like eye colour and hair colour don't mean much to me, but the face in general always stands out.
Congrats to your wife though, that's super cool!

That's pretty cool! I tried taking the short test for fun, knowing I am terrible at recognizing faces, (it's here: https://www.superrecognisers.com/) and I got like 3/14 which is real funny - I just kept looking at the clothes and hair the people had which didn't help at all haha.
Yeah, I got about 8/14. And I feel like I cheated on some of those. I just happened to notice some moles on one or two of the pictures, which I probably wouldn't really notice in real life. But because I was thinking about it, I managed to noticed them. For most of the rest of them, I was like, "OK, he looks like an average guy. There's absolutely nothing special about this face. No landmarks or anything." And then they'd show the array of pictures, and I'd be like, "Yep, all average guys with no distinguishing marks. Can't tell one from the other."
I got 9/14, but I feel like either my browser screwed up or the timer got shorter near the end as some of the faces showed for only a few seconds.
12/14 and i know one of which i got wrong but i think my results will be skewed because i do surveys/studies and those faces popup a fair amount.
Could you link back to the article? I'd love to try taking the test as well. Apparently @skybrain isn't active any more? Their user page is a 404.
Anyway, congratulations to your wife! That's awesome :)
It's @skybrian, and he's still active.
Oh, lol. Hi @skybrian!
Congratulations to you and your wife for the new doors opening! This is the stuff that makes social media makes sense. This made me genuinely happy.
Awesome work @skybrian intended or not!
