The fact that they chose to threaten litigation upon Megalag rather than take his allegations of affiliate link hijacking seriously is damning in and of itself. What they pulled with Honey is a level of fraud that would get you significant prison time if you weren't running a billion-dollar corporation with enough lobbyist dollars to cover your ass.
But I also think his video has also opened up how scummy the affiliate marketing industry is based on how Rakuten (in particular) responded.

I use PayPal, and I had stopped using it for years because it was actually more hassle than using a debit card, but since the honey thing theyve gone back and made their main product really great.
You can now pay with PayPal easily on most websites, they’ve massively expanded where they’re accepted in the past year or so. You can also pay in monthly payments or they even offer loans which seems predatory but everyone who handles money offers predatory loans so… whatever I guess.
Anyway yeah they suck they have no morals but at least this whole thing forced them to make their main product better.

It's not (just) that. It's that they charge the retailer a bunch of fees (significantly above regular card fees). Which of course is eventually reflected in the price if enough people do it.

Apple Pay now has 3% cash back on all purchases, which surely comes from increased processing fees (along with controlling the processing mechanism). Eventually, other cards will need to compete and raise their fees accordingly to provide consumers with that 3%. In my frustration, I was completely wrong. I stand by the rest of my comment.
The costs are always passed on to consumers, and typically all consumers, not just the ones using reward CCs. Business have no means to negotiate (turning away specifically customers using XY and Z cards?) and consumers have no incentive to negotiate. So these programs are just an inflation accelerant with no actual value add to the economy.

It gives 2% on every purchase, but there are numerous other cards that give 2% on everything that came out before the Apple Card.

Unless things have changed, it's 2% if you use Apple Pay specifically, and 1% for everything else. Entering your numbers or swiping the physical card will not get you that 2%.
