As a displaced TNG-era Trek fan, I've already found my new home in The Orville. It's not perfect but it's a lot closer to what I love about the franchise than Discovery has delivered, or what this appears to be teasing. I do love the character of Picard. I'm not particularly interested in watching his post-Starfleet geriatric adventures. I'll save any further judgment for after I've actually seen the show.
One interesting note is that I think this will give us our first indepth look at the prime timeline after the events of Voyager and DS9. If they handle that part well, it could be cool to see what's in store for the Federation next, instead of yet another prequel. Especially if John de Lancie is involved (and properly utilized).
It would be a mistake not to bring him on. I've seen it mentioned a few times on /r/startrek that Q could claim he appears older solely to mock Picard's mortality. It works well with the character...

If Mr. MacFarlane is listening: his work is incredible and he deserves all the recognition. Just not the captain's chair.
Like most scifi shows, it had a rocky first season. I'd say it has found it's stride in S2. The phone time capsule episode was easily the best 'holodeck' episode I've ever seen, and Seth wrote...

The phone time capsule episode was easily the best 'holodeck' episode I've ever seen, and Seth wrote that one. I never cared one bit for his particular brand of juvenile humor, but with writing like that (and kick-starting Cosmos again) he's got my attention now. If the show maintains the current quality level I'll be happy to see it finish out that 5-season run Fox has optioned.
I'm not hyped over Picard. If there's one thing CBS has always shown an unfailing ability to do, it's fuck up Star Trek.
I really hope this is not another epic the-entire-universe-in-the-balance, enemies-and-evil-at-every-turn show. I'd really like a modern take on the more episodic, theme-, character-, and/or...

I really hope this is not another epic the-entire-universe-in-the-balance, enemies-and-evil-at-every-turn show. I'd really like a modern take on the more episodic, theme-, character-, and/or issue-exploring episodes that Star Trek has been good at, at times. Something a tenth of the way from TNG to Black Mirror.

Honestly, for a Picard story, I'd rather see more Cardassians, Q, or Borg. The Romulans had some good moments too, but they just don't have the same significance for me. Really hoping for some...

I was just observing that the teaser seems to demonstrate that the Romulans will have a significant role to play in this new series - or, at least, in the set-up for the new series. It'll be part of Picard's new backstory.
Narrator sounded like Gina Torres Disappointed to not find her on the cast list Regardless, as someone who never saw TNG but has a Trekkie friend that absolutely loves Picard, well definitely...

I'm excited, but not purchase-All-Access excited.
I'm curious, but not pay money curious.
I'm Usenet curious.

Have you seen the rest of S02? The jokes are very far and inbetween, and even then they are far better than S01.

I’m actually still working my way thru s01, so that’s good to hear.
The last 4 eps of S1 is where it grows the beard.

Link for those not in the USA
Oh dammit, it worked for me earlier (in Canada) but now they've blocked it? What a weird thing to do. I'll change the topic link to that one, thanks.
Thank you. OP should probably be edited with this link.
HELL YES. Picard is my favorite Enterprise captain by faaaar.
Looks interesting. The trailer didn't really give away much, is it's hard to say whether I will see it or not
