I've just started Ian C. Esslemont's Night of knives. It takes place in the same world as Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen that I enjoyed a lot.

Huh, book 15 (!) is coming out soon. I saw the movie but didn't know it was from a long book series.

I totally agree! It's been a long time since I read them but I still remember the feeling of wonder that Hobb created with her characters and world building.

Past me would be disappointed I never pursued a creative goal of mine. The high effort and low chance of amounting to something worthwhile has kept me off it. I know I should just try, because if I did I could become better and maybe enjoy the process as much as the dream. But alas, I haven't managed yet.

Past me would be proud, and probably a bit surprised, that I went through a major career change recently that really altered my whole perspective on work life. Now I make a difference.

They're made out of meat is a very short story about how aliens might view us humans. It can also be found on YouTube as a short film.

I have ambivalent feelings about this. It was annoyingly stimulating for a bit to long for my taste. On one level it was really stupid, but on another I really wanted to see how it would progress.

I haven't watched a lot of anime so the art work looks unfamiliar to me. But I really like the novel and the movie and I'm a big fan of the key concept of the story so maybe I'll give this a look....

We have a shared whiteboard att work. In numerous occasions I've put a marker pen there but it always goes missing. I'm pretty sure I know who's taking them, so I talked to her about it. She just laughed and said something along the lines "I don't know, maybe it's me, I always lose my pens."

I asked some other colleagues who uses the whiteboard and they just always have a marker in their pocket. So basically the whole team has had to adjust to her kleptomania. I just wonder if she got a drawer full of pens somewhere...

I really like strong supporting characters and Sam Rockwell and Paul Giamatti always bring something extra to a movie. Moon and Sideways show that they can pull off a leading man as well.

Spoilers for later parts of the book how some of her actions affect the world through the loops and make her feel like a parasite on reality. Usually everything resets with each loop. Here there are consequences making a Groundhog Day approach impossible.
