Physical books degrade with time, I wouldn’t say it’s a 1 to 1 comparison. Eventually a library would have to buy a new copy of a physical book due to wear and tear. Is that before or after the ~20 lends a library gets with an ebook? Probably not but I have no idea.

Currently going through the Final Architecture series and find them to be similar to The Expanse in some ways. Plucky crew goes on a space faring adventure to save the galaxy. Although Tchaikovsky adds in some crazy concepts though.

I’ve found I bounced off the Expanse hard when i tried to read them back to back. I bounced pretty hard off the start of the third book. I have since restarted the series and have made it a point to read something else in between and I’m enjoying it much more. Really enjoyed book 5 and am finishing up a couple other books before hitting book 6.

They look to Netflix because they are competing with Netflix for subscribers. If they follow the prestige television channels you mention, their content output drops substantially and people stop subscribing to Disney+ until the next series releases.

Their incentive is for more content, not better quality content.

I'd think that Disney's market dominance is what plays a huge role in this. Who else releases summer blockbusters at this point? It's the Disney show. The option to go watch something else in theaters doesn't exist. With no competition, Disney can just double down on pumping out whatever because that's it.

    Break up Disney.

I just got my LE yesterday after selling my OG LCD. The difference in the screen really is night and day. I agree that this is the definitive version of the Steam Deck. It feels like a more professional product, similar to the Switch going from LCD to OLED. It is just a more competent device that Valve really ironed out most of the little issues the OG version had.

One thing that does seem to stick out though is some of the issues that users are reporting. There are 2 screen manufacturers for the OLED, Samsung and BOE. The Samsung screens seem to suffer from some pretty severe OLED graininess while the BOE screen seems to have a higher chance of dead pixels. I got very lucky and only have 1 dead pixels on the edge of the screen.

On top of that, there still seems to be some stickiness issues with the face buttons. My A and B buttons have noticeable friction when pressing them in.

Side note: How are you running Morrowind in HDR? Is it through OpenMW?

Seems very... clean and shiny? The CGI stands out a lot more than it did in Fury Road. Will be interesting to see if this is an artifact of an early trailer or if it holds through to release.

I’m just scratching the surface with photography and Lightroom! I’ve played with the videos, but mostly just use the built in modes because they are neat. Other than that I have no clue how to even begin videography, but maybe one day.

If you are on Mac (or iPad if you aren’t trying to do huge amounts) you could try Final Cut Pro. No clue how it compares to anything else though.

I recently got in to drone photography. I got a DJI Air 3 and have been having a blast flying it around and taking photos. I have been messing around with Adobe Lightroom touching up the photos I take. I even got my Part 107 cert on a whim because I thought it would be cool to have; whether or not I actually use the thing commercially is kinda beside the point for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find and share drone photos? I'm kinda hoping to see what others are doing in the space to get inspiration and maybe some critical eyes for my own work. I reopened a long dormant Instagram account and started posting here and there only to find that most of my feed is ads...

Funny, I’m listening to the Nemesis Game myself and am just about done. This book is a fantastic step up. I enjoyed the fourth book but definitely felt it dragged a tiny bit as well. I enjoyed what the premise was, it was an extremely interesting setup that I felt was a bit let down by how the plot lines came together.

fourth book spoilers I really enjoyed the survival plot on the alien planet. The strange ecology, the competing factions of the belters who set up shop first and the chartered corporation. Waking up a dead alien mining operation. A planet sized fusion reactor exploding and devastating the planet. The disabled ships in orbit dealing with that fallout. It was so cool! It was made cooler by Avasarella’s game of hoping Holden would blow it all up to convince people migrating through the gates was bad.

I liked ghost Miller, everything about him was just cool. I liked how he would show up and use Holden as a pair of eyes to investigate things he couldn’t. I liked him tracking down and solving his mystery.

What I didn’t like was how obvious it was that Holden should just run off with Miller on his investigation. It made the things I mentioned above feel like filler because I couldn’t help but think (really just know) that everything would be resolved at the end of Miller’s puzzle…

The pieces worked, I just didn’t like how it fit together…

Nemesis Games steps it up by removing the obvious solution, and upping the stakes. Not a big fan of Naomi’s plot, or her newly discovered backstory, but still fun.

It's a big contributor. Not offering driver updates for their chips makes it basically impossible for device manufacturers to update their older phones beyond the support window that Qualcomm offers. Of course, the super cheap phones didn't even get updates for the support window anyway, but that falls on the manufacturers.

Qualcomm needs to offer support for their chips as well. From the article:

The company wouldn't say how many years of driver update support it planned to offer for the GPU (or any other component of the SoC, for that matter)

Qualcomm is the main reason why Android phones have such terrible support for updates and why Google has had to jump through so many hoops over the years to move as much as they can to Play Store updates.

A PC with only 3 years of support is dead in the water compared to an Apple offering.

It’s been great, my only issue is that it can slide a bit on the carpet over time but I could probably put some rubber stoppers on the bottom to mitigate it.
