Funny as hell, and it's so propulsive that those 2 hr 40 minutes fly by. Everyone gives great performances in this, Teyana Taylor and Sean Penn being standouts. Go see it!

One of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. I'm a big Pynchon fan, and while this was a much bigger divergence from the book than Inherent Vice was, it still really captured the feel of his work in many ways. I was very lucky to get to see it in 70mm! I'll be making all my friends see it very soon.✋️🎅

I think most of his defenders tend to opine that despite his methods he was at least able to build things, which is now much harder in a world of NIMBYism. I think there is a point to which I agree with them, I think it is often much too hard to build new things when needed especially in big cities, but when you look at all that Moses did, both his methods and his goals, it's hard to look favorably at the guy.

While on vacation I finished reading Virginia Woolf's Orlando. It's a lot different than the stream-of-consciousness works of hers I've previously read, but still fantastic! She had such a gift for beautiful prose, and I love the character of Orlando and all the wild adventures. Would recommend, also a very funny book.

After that I started reading my next Pynchon tome, Against the Day. I'm a couple hundred pages in, and very much enjoying myself, although I feel a little overwhelmed with all the different locations and characters. Mason & Dixon was a lot smaller scale, this feels more comparable to Gravity's Rainbow but maybe even more scattered. I like the focus on anarchism and the Colorado Coal Wars, and interested to see where else things go.

I also began an ASOIAF reread. I last reread it in about 2021, so it feels fresh enough and it's always a lot of fun looking back on the books through the lenses of theories I've read up on over time, and trying to figure stuff out myself.

I wanted to focus on one element of your post here:

I don't feel like these people are schizophrenic. We've had such people show up before and their delusions are on a different level. One guy thinks a well known actor stole his UFO designs and is trying to get him put in jail.

This is the difference between a delusion that would be considered bizarre and one that would not, but either one can happen with schizophrenia, among other causes of delusions. Either way, if there's some way you can get them to a psych (e.g. "Being under surveillance can be stressful, have you thought about talking to a professional about ways to deal with it?") Is likely better than much you can do for it yourself
