THIS SERVER IS CRAZY!! There's so many cool places to go and visit and SO much of the world to see! I love how developed it is and how much free stuff there is so it's much easier for me, a new person, to safely go around and explore pretty much wherever. I've honestly been putting off joining the server because I knew I would love it lol. I've been spending most afternoons running around and checking out places.
I am also far more ignorant of the cool shit you can do in minecraft. I also didn't understand some of how it works when you die 😔 I died out by the flower farm and ran across the map to get my stuff again. It was night time so I was waiting and in a different screen and when I came back my stuff disappeared. I didn't know it de-spawned after five minutes of you finding it. RIP all the cool stuff I had, sorry guys.
This has been so much fun. I've been meaning to get back into minecraft so this has been a great way to have a place already built out that I can still also build a little place of my own! It's so impressive with the subway/rail system, it makes exploring that much easier. I HAVE been having rendering issues these past couple of days. I'll take a rail out somewhere and then it'll just... stop showing everything. Not sure if that's just a me issue 🤔
Can't agree more :) I joined after the last post went up and mostly did spend the first week just being a tourist exploring all the cool stuff people already have build. Now that I have started building stuff I really do appreciate all the infrastructure that people already put in place. For someone with limited time available it makes for an ideal playing situation where it isn't creative mode but you are also not spending hours grinding for some materials.
For people curious, a few pictures:
The above is just a small selection of what you can find within the orange circle on the map alone. There is so much more awesome stuff to explore and experience.
Screenshots honestly don't do it justice, I highly recommend checking it out in person.
The rendering issue you mentioned is a bug with the Bedrock/Java edition translator. Unless that bug gets fixed by the plugin developers there’s nothing I can do to help there. You could buy a Java edition account if the bugginess gets intolerable. If you do this you’ll want to link your two accounts so they can both log in under your Tildes name.
Aaaaaah, okay. Luckily, I have gamepass ultimate and can get the Java edition. Thanks for the heads up!
welcome to the server :)
Thank you!! It's been super awesome :D
welcome to the server eve! hope we run into each other sometime, I'd love to show you around my museum :)
EVIE!!!! I've checked out your museum!! I was so friggin impressed. It's soooo beautiful and eerie and the music/sound design you did is WILD. I was so hesitant to step into the dark because it was SO dark lol. But my god, I am just so utterly flabbergasted and impressed by the work you did into it. I loved all the story telling elements and what was in the pit literally made me gasp when I saw it. I took the souvenirs and I was gobsmacked after. I immediately jabbered about it to my S/O. It was wonderful, thank you for making such a cool experience!
You hopped off before I explored the museum btw
I audibly went "whoa" when I discovered the excavation. Genuinely impressed; very well done.
My only question is the [road] entrance to the museum has a giant "access restricted" sign; is that deliberate? I can't tell if the museum is canonically off limits or if it's just under construction at present
Yeah the sign and the fence are just there for storytelling; I love when people drop by to visit in actuality! But then you've seen the sights in the pit below, you know why we can't just let people wander in
I haven't logged on in a while. I checked the dynmap though and the docks I made are now way bigger and also real docks instead of the boardwalk I made. Awesome!
Hey you have a small build on the docks that looks to be abandoned. Is that still up for grabs? If so I'd like to claim it.
Go right ahead man, I'm planning on moving to a snowier biome.
Thanks! I built a small apartment there and I'm really enjoying being right in the walkable part of town.

Hi, new neighbor!
Hello! Glad to be a part of the neighborhood. :)
Question: Is there a system for street numbering? I want to put up my address.
There are addresses but there are definitely streets where the numbers increase in both directions so I wouldn't worry too much about getting the number right
Haha, got it, thanks! :D
Originally, the numbers were based on the x/y coordinate, divided by 10. So 69 Tildes Way would be around X coordinate 690.
Oh, I like that. Unfortunately the entrance to my place is close enough to @TBDBITLtrpt13 that we'd have the same house number. I guess I'll stick with 2, since it fits with internal convention we've got going for East Coast Tp.
How did the street names come about BTW? Are they just random picks by whoever settled there first? Maybe we need a TildeTown Historical Society 🤔
Yeha, they were just random picks by whoever created that road. It's so funny how so much stuff from just a few months ago turns into legend, passed down from player to player.
Please give a warm welcome to "Good Boy Kitty", the newest resident of TildeTown Zoo! "Kitty" is still getting used to his new home, and may appear dejected (or irritable) for a while. But in time he will fit right in with the other exciting Zoo exhibits. :D
"Do Not Tap the Glass" - Scary!
Hey all, I've been doing a bunch of restocking and maintenance around town, and realized that it's kind of tough for newcomers to find gear in town hall. I'd like to propose using some of the basement space or the reserved space next to town hall as an equipment and supplies area. Basically clean up and expand the upstairs "bunch of shulkers plopped on the ground" community storage space. What do y'all think?
Yep, I'm all for it! It wasn't too long ago when I was a server newb and I'll admit it took some time to get oriented to the supplies as they are now.
Hey all! My picture of Jasper is starting to come along. Decided to take a break from the grind today and put up some more armor stands in town. This time I've added some customers to @PelagiusSeptim 's new coffeeshop/bookstore.
I also did a bit of caving for diamonds so I could upgrade replacement netherite gear I lost and I found one of those fossil sites for the first time, very cool to see!
Got a nice pic of your cute couple during sunrise
I dropped a yellow shulker box with some Sniffer eggs and seeds at the zoo. I didn't want to presume anything about where an enclosure might be planned for them. :)
I'm getting close to "done" with the Capitol Records building I've been working on (no way am I gonna fill every floor)! I need to finish the second set of elevators and then I want to detail some of the spaces with armor stand ideas I have.
I've also just about finished doing everything I want to do with my nature reserve! I still need to add a building for the birdwatching shop and a few other very minor additions, then my list of things to do there will be complete! If you haven't been over in a while I highly encourage a return visit, the 4 campsites are complete as well as a cave system featuring an odd geode which has grown up through the ground to the surface! I'm hoping @Evie could help me out with some awesome lore to go with it, the odd geode was inspired by her museum exhibit after all. :P
Edit: Thanks so much Evie! Love the new lore!
I also mentioned in the last thread that an idea was being hatched for a future holiday event in the nature reserve! The plan is to host a giant Easter egg hunt! The idea is I will be hiding 3 types of eggs throughout the nature reserve for everyone to search for, each with a point value and difficulty assigned (I haven't decided on specifics for this yet, but there will only be 3 dragon eggs worth a lot of points but hard to find, sniffer eggs worth fewer points but still kinda hard to find, and turtle eggs being easy to find with a low value). The person with the most points at the end of the hunt will receive a nice prize, and you will also get to keep any dragon eggs you find to use as decoration! For now I just want to let everyone know that a plan is in place to begin generating hype, and in a future thread I'll ask for input on when would be a good time to allow the most people to join in as possible. I'm thinking it will likely be some time during the weekend before Easter to avoid IRL scheduling conflicts with real life Easter plans. Credit for the idea goes to @ColdheartsTalon and @Noox who are welcome to assist with hiding eggs if they want, but I assume you'd both enjoy being a part of the hunt more?
Hot new update:
You'll need to make new armor stand control books
Turns out a mod already exists that precisely matches what I had in mind, but it's not updated for 1.20.4. I think I'll pull it down and see if I can submit a pull request
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/blockmixer-fabric
And... i'm dumb. I spent an hour or so figuring out how to update the mod and its dependencies (got it building ok, but failed at runtime) and then realized I never actually tried it as it's distributed. It lists itself as compatible with 1.20.1, but works fine when loaded up in 1.20.4. Yay for backward compatibility
Yup that's usually true for simple mods across minor version changes. They don't touch a lot of the modding API surface so aren't likely to break.
I ended up finding a small QOL improvement in this mod, figured out my build issue, and have my first customized mod running locally now. This opens fun and potentially scary doors. Will submit a PR :)
I've PR'd a couple of plugins already. Got some stuff merged!
I assume this is useful for when you're building a wall or something and you want to randomly texture it with a few different blocks?
Exactly! Useful for textured walls, paths, etc.
Hey I'm late to this thread, but I just watched a video by ilmango that mentioned this feature in the mod tweakaroo. So that might be something to check out if you run into version problems again in the future.
Oh boy. Now I'm going to have to go around killing everybody in order to replace all my mob heads with player heads.
Sorry in advance for your deaths
I confirmed last night that you can indeed get your own head with a couple of well placed arrow shots. It's also amusing/confusing to anyone else online at the time. 😂
For those that didn't hear, I have created a blaze farm in the nether for farming blaze rods and heads.
Not at my computer right now but I will update this post with the coordinates next time I'm on. I did throw the coords in the farm book at the community center.
Edit: coords are 191/67/54
My next project will be making a passage from nether spawn to that area
Further edit: passageway is finished. I plan on spawn-proofing the area around the spawner a bit; seems like blazes keep spawning in areas that I'd rather they not
Awesome! I tried for a bit at the nether skele farm before it was modified to be skeleton's only and I didn't have any luck!
If anyone has any ideas what to do with my base I'm all ears. I don't want to leave as is, a simple shell, but I've managed to burn myself out by struggling to come up with builds that could fill it from the inside. Another idea I had was to gift the base to another player so they could do as they please with it while maintaining the turtle flower shell.
I think it looks a lot like a museum. Maybe fill it with walkways around to different exhibits like paintings, make some abstract statues, maybe have a library section, a section could be a botanical garden. I could hang my picture of Jasper there when it's all done.
I found an interesting quirk of the Minecraft server tonight thanks to some shared observations with @bendvis. It looks like the server is using different clocks for overworld vs the other dimensions. I normally wouldn't notice it, since the end and nether don't really have a visible passing of time. But my minimap mod shows the time, and I noticed when I went through a nether portal that the time changed pretty dramatically. @bendvis noted that his mod also shows the day count, and that was different between dimensions as well.
I was curious if this might be a feature of paper servers, so I logged into my own paper server which I've been running for years, and saw the same behavior. I haven't had a chance to see if other popular servers like Forge or Fabric handle time similarly.
For the most part, this oddity won't make a bit of difference to anyone. But I did see at least one case that appears to be the same issue online, and the user indicated that it was causing problems with villager mechanics in the end dimension.
Wow, an upcoming update to Minecraft will add a /transfer command that will send a player to a different server by IP address and port! Sorry, not necessarily related to our server but interesting Minecraft news nonetheless.
You could take a ban to a whole new level and send them to a prison server
I've really been enjoying coming up with ideas for armor stand people to put in town and around my place. If anybody wants me to decorate an area for them just let me know!
Actually, the docks are lacking vibrancy. I wonder if we could have some busy dock workers, vendors, fishermen, or tourists hanging about. :)
On a related note... do we have a place to collect heads for community use? Might be nice to have a central "head shop"
For the pun alone, this must happen
I'd be happy to add some people down by the docks! And a "head shop" sounds like a good idea as well! I have been stockpiling heads at my house to use for armor stands, but I could move over most of what I have once we have the shop established!
I've got enough varieties that I'm my 3rd shulker. I'd be willing to add to a shop. Just as long as people arent just taking and never adding
We now have our very own Emergency Nighttime Ender Recall Device (ENERD for short) at spawn! It's basically an ender-porter set up to trigger a teleport once it starts to get dark. It's located behind the stone wall ruins at spawn. You'll find the path between the spawn structure and the nearby fountain. I'm not exactly an expert builder or redstoner, so if you see any room for improvement please be my guest. :)
EDIT: Another caveat that I just thought of, and might be important to note: Ender pearls are unable to teleport across dimensions, so you wouldn't be able to use this for a nether or end adventure sadly.
For those curious about the redstone, it uses a daylight sensor to detect when the light drops to a certain level. Light levels do vary based on weather. I did my best to keep it close enough, but just be aware that the teleport will happen a few seconds earlier for each tier of inclement weather. Anecdotally, I've found that the teleport happens at ~7pm in clear weather, ~6:45pm in the rain, and ~6:30pm in thunderstorms.
Interesting idea! I assume it will only work in the spawn chunk or chunks that are loaded?
Right. I shrunk back the protected spawn area to make the build possible.
Yeah, so it's a lot less useful as an automatic recall if I put it anywhere else. We should be able to duplicate the mechanism in town though with the caveat that someone always has to be nearby to keep it loaded.
Could there be a version that is manually activated rather than by sunlight? I can imagine one of these being super useful for Treasure Hunts when someone else is online near town to do the recall at the right time!
Yeah absolutely! The manual ones are far simpler in fact. Just a long bubble column and a trap door really. You could also have one activated by a hopper clock timer, which would allow you to set any number of minutes before teleport. The caveat with that option is that someone would need to be loading it the whole time since clocks don't work in unloaded chunks.
Tangentially related: The daylight one I built can technically be manually activated as well, which is something I was trying to fix. I didn't want the possibility of someone coming along and flipping the trap door thus ending an adventure prematurely. I had some working designs using an inverted signal with an iron trap door, but I wasn't satisfied with how clunky they were. If I can come up with a more clever way to route the redstone I may upgrade it later. (Or someone with more redstone knowledge is welcome to take a crack at it)
haha, in typical engineer fashion, I thought of the solution right after I submitted this comment.
Update again: I fixed it so that there should be no accidental premature activations. 👍
Hey, hate to bring bad news, but it doesn't seem to be working. I just tested it out and long after night fall I flew back to spawn and my enderpearl was still bobbing in the water.
Edit: Worked on a second attempt.
It could be that the pearl didn't quite make contact with the block the first time. The stair I'm pushing over the pearl might need to be switched for a solid block. I just used the stair for aesthetics anyway.
I might also be able to extend the pulse a bit.
Thanks for beta testing and reporting back! :)
I think the torches down there might have been a problem. I removed them.
Hmm, I'll have to do some creative testing. I thought the wiki said that only sky light impacted the sensor, but I could be wrong. 🤷♂️
I could be wrong
So I'm back with knowledge! I tested a bunch of scenarios in creative and can say for sure that the daylight sensor only cares about sky light. I spammed torches all over and the signal was the same. Then I placed a glowstone right on top and the signal changed! So at first I thought it was because the new light source was directly overhead, but in actuality it behaved the same way when I put stone or planks on top. I should note here that I hadn't noticed until this point that I had the sensor in inverted mode, so more light blocking equals higher signal (details, details).
Anyway, other cool discoveries:
Surprisingly complicated things these daylight sensors are. 🤔
The good news is that one of us is right! 😂
If someone has any interest, I found a location where you can activate 3 cave spider spawners and a skeleton spawner at the same time. It would be an awesome place to build a home base if I hadn't done so already, so I want to pass on the coords in case anyone else is interested. We don't really need it for the community since the enderman and guardian farms are faster for XP, the nether skeleton farm covers bones, and the witch farm covers spider eyes, but it could be cool to have a private farm in your basement (deep basement!) if someone wants it! All 4 spawners can be seen and activated from 57, -44, 811.
Inaugural run of the villager Choo Choo Train was mostly successful. Things got a little weird with loading them up, so I'll have to improve that portion. I also lost 6 minecarts somehow
Push into the nether
Choo Choo lol
Now arriving
Started with 12, ended up with 14 villagers?
Edit: found the missing minecarts. They got pushed ~60 blocks away
Wait, I hadn't considered this, but if you kill the biome variant villagers do you get the villager head for that biome or do they all revert to the default heads?
Alas, snow villagers drop normal heads, but each profession gets a different head
Sounds like an experiment to me.... :)
The server is a bit over excited for a treasure hunt right now :D
Did ya win it? :D
It didn't tell me what the treasure hunt was :(
Oef it is still spamming chat @teaearlgraycold
edit: Server seems to have crashed and on recovery it is now running without issue as far as I can tell.
edit2: server crashed again
edit3: It just crashed again. Something is clearly wrong
Fixed this earlier in this commit.
Classic rookie mistake.
Edit: Just did this again in some other code! I may never learn my lesson.
Always comment code!
Interesting and humorous, I have the same thing happen to me while designing something complex after the weekend break. It's the details that get you.
Don't be alarmed if you come across the community mine at the docks and find it a bit... Busted. I was working on a beautification project and was pulled away. Will be back to (better than) normal this evening.
Dockside community mine is no longer busted. :)
Don't give up on your pixel art @Evie!!! Take a break if you need and come back to a fresh start!
Aww that's super sweet of you gravy. You shouldn't have, but I really appreciate the effort!
A friendly pickle vendor sells his wares!
Thanks @GravySleeve for bringing him to life. He makes me smile.
Woke up this morning and I was struck by sudden inspiration to add this to town. Just south of the Community Center, come check it out!
This is great! I love the specific inclusion of the cold mobs.
Logged in to check it out and it looks good!
I have claimed the most terrifying Elytra! @teaearlgraycold
"As you wander through the peaceful plains, a distant humming catches your attention. Following its haunting melody, you venture into the uncharted realm of the Deep Dark, where darkness dwells and secrets await. At coordinates approximately (redacted for now :P), and near the bedrock, a chest hides its precious cargo - a long-lost pair of Elytra, ready to take flight into your hands."
I've had a change of heart (totally not scared), if someone wants to hop on and explore a new Deep Dark there's a safe fall into water set up at -1904, -3664. I'm starting to explore now.
Well nevermind, there doesn't seem to be a city here. :/
Yeah I don’t think deep dark necessarily has an ancient city. I’ve actually seen skulk blocks before without any city in the area.
