The demo for Creeper World IXE was released recently and I've been playing it.

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/2257010/Creeper_World_IXE/

This latest game is sort of a cross between the original "Creeper World" series and "Particle Fleet Emergence" which is more realtime ship tactics rather than base building. The demo is just what I was expecting so I will buy the game when it is available.

I think I have all of the games from Knuckle Cracker. Most are tower defense games where the main enemy is a fluid called "Creeper". They have level builders and an active community that makes new levels which can be quite different than the main game. For example, a popular style is to play as the "creeper". All of the games except Creeper World 4 are 2d. 4 is interesting and fun but I like it the least out of the series since the 3d interface is slightly difficult to navigate.

So if you like tower defense games, and you think fluid and particle simulations are cool, you will like these games and get a lot of enjoyment from them.

All of the older games are very inexpensive.

Another Creeper World fan in the wild! Hi! I'll second this. They're a fun take on the RTS genre and worth giving a look if you have any interest.

This goes on the wishlist and is on my "one day I'll get to this in the next decade" list where all my games go nowadays

https://direct.playstation.com/en-us/hardware/ps5 plus a year of Netflix for Plus subscribers, perfect timing for me because my PS Plus is expiring soon, and I don't plan on renewing right away, after they hiked prices this year

Why is this deal tempting to me? Because they've announced PC support for PSVR2 is coming on August 7 for $60

Personally I think I'll wait another generation before diving back into VR. I bought the cheapest WMR headset a long while ago - it's the only Lenovo branded one afaik- and it was fun but wasn't the best visual quality by a long shot.

Seeing the prescription lenses for the Quest 3 offered by Zenni does make it tempting, though.

SteamVR showing up on the official Quest store has made the Quest 3 a really great option for wireless PCVR gaming (and you could argue that the Quest 2 is even better from a value perspective). Prior to that you had to use the Oculus Desktop app which was buggy and cumbersome, but now you don't even need to install that at all--just put Steam on your desktop and link it up with the SteamVR app on the Quest and your whole VR library is there to stream.

The only downside is SteamVR doesn't support the Oculus Link cable so you have to play over wifi, meaning your desktop running Steam should be wired into the network and you need a good 5gz connection for the Quest. But if you meet those requirements it's a pretty glorious experience.

          Good points.

Another major downside, at least in my opinion, is the reliance on having a Facebook/Meta account. I don't like the concept of a piece of hardware being rendered worthless if I was to get banned or something. (I have a FB account and hardly use it, but it's still something in the back of my mind.)

Though the WMR headset I have is going to be rendered worthless on Windows 11 soon since WMR is being discontinued. So it's not exclusively a Meta issue.

Maybe in another generation a new player will come out of the woodwork at a sub-$500 price point.

Personally the Meta part is enough that I'm not considering Meta Quest at all, for me it's either PSVR2 or wait for the next launch, like whatever Valve has been rumored to be making

I think your meta account, and therefore your quest and games, are safe if you are banned from Facebook or instagram. I don’t know that for sure, but I think that was the reason for switching from a Facebook account requirement to a meta account t.

Yeah, a Meta account has a much lower barrier to entry compared to Facebook. All you need is an email address to create one, and there's no BS requirement to identify yourself or tie it to your real identity or Facebook profile (banned or otherwise). It's much more akin to a Google account you'd sign up for if you want to log into the Play Store on your phone than it is to a traditional Facebook account.

That being said, I totally understand not wanting to be forced to create one. For me it's just become a necessary evil (like having a Google account so I can buy apps on my phone, or a Github account so I can participate in like 99% of open source projects).

Thanks @Wes for putting this on my radar during the Backlog Burner. I've never played Bloodborne, but I grew up on PS1 racing games so this looks right up my alley.

I do love Bloodborne(although I admit I haven't finished it), but I really think having to rebrand for Nightmare Kart was for the best. Nightmare Kart stands on its own in my opinion. Everyone try it asap!!

I dearly wish it had online

It's a really good game, I enjoyed it a lot, but it definitely feels like two seperate games with the life sim part and then the combat parts. I think the life-sim parts tried to be like Persona but weren't nearly as interesting to me, and the combat wasn't as flashy as P5R was. Still a good game worthy of your time, especially at the price of free!

I speed-run all the life sim stuff just to get to the combat, which is the part of the game loop that's actually fun to me. Some people like the life sim stuff but I really can't bring myself to care about it.

Without the life sim stuff, I'd probably give it an 8/10, but the other parts drag the pacing down so much for me.

Thanks for the heads up! Been wanting to try this forever as XCOM is easily my favorite Firaxis series, but I just don't care about Superheroes, so this one has been a tough sell even on sale.

One of my favorite games of all time, and the remake is just as good. I think the first month it came out I put in 50 hours on it easily, it's great for replayability and pseudo-speedrunning.

Note: the site is approved at /r/GameDeals and I think it's a historical low. (ITAD says otherwise, but I'm like 90% sure it was for the original game and not the remake)

I actually feel bad for them since they had that name before the culture war named GamerGate happened, which now has becomes an inevitable association for them by default. For the record: their name has nothing to do with it.
