I've been obsessed with the game since it came out, currently trying to get hcssf up and running, just died a few hours ago, we go again tomorrow after work :)

The winners of the 2024 Steam Awards have been announced. Game of the Year: Black Myth: Wukong VR Game of the Year: Metro Awakening Labor of Love: ELDEN RING Best Game on Steam Deck: God of War...
My reaction was the opposite; I blocked it. Maybe the steam awards are just a popularity contest, or maybe they're easily manipulated, but my impression is a little more of the second: the results...
My reaction was the opposite; I blocked it. Maybe the steam awards are just a popularity contest, or maybe they're easily manipulated, but my impression is a little more of the second: the results are easily gamed. There's also been drama about BMW not taking best game at the Game awards and subsequent review bombing by their player-base.
With all that in mind, I was basically expecting these results. But, seeing them still inspired me to put distance between myself and the game. [Overall, I don't put much stock in the awards. At this point I vote to get my badges and move on.]
[Upon further reflection, it's probably both: A popularity contest with groups actively trying to manipulate the results. Extra messy.]
Meh. It's just a reaction. Lots of people stop listening when something feels like it's pushed too forcefully or artificially. Lots of people have a twitchy finger over their block buttons. Maybe...

I'm surprised to see Satisfactory in the New Releases page. That must mean that it isn't counting the time it was in early access and instead just the two weeks after 1.0 release. The part that surprises me is that there were enough interested people left that hadn't already bought it in EA.
All throughout early access I'd see people who were lightly interested in factory games ask about getting it, and the community response was almost always "If you're not super into the genre, wait...

1.0 brought a massive increase in QoL, so I definitely think waiting was a good idea for people who were on the fence or would only give it one shot.
I waited until 1.0 to buy it, having followed it's progress through early access. I've been burned a lot recently by forever early access games, and it's changing how I purchase them.

Man what a mixed selection in Top Revenue. Some triple A games you might expect, some hot topic streamer games like Content Warning and Chained Together then Team Fortress 2 still in the mix too....

For me it's Stalker 2 and I don't even really remember what else came out this year. edit Oh, I guess this doesn't refer only to things that came out this year.

I love how path of exile 2 is right there at the top with only 20 days since it came out in early access
It's based on first 2 weeks of revenue.
Though I wonder if they count refunds in that. Regardless, seems mostly legit?
There are definitely a lot of players, and the launch hype was real, so I'd say it's deserved!

Oof, I couldn't do hardcore. I'm a cautious player, but all bosses killed me at least once, and I'm a bit too reckless in the endgame

Dang, no wins for Balatro :(
Liars Bar winning most innovative gameplay makes me really glad that there's a judges panel for The Game Awards, haha
Huh. Maybe I should give Black Myth: Wukong a try.

That seems like an overreaction. The game has nothing to do with the community around it.

The devs seem fairly adamant and the community seems fairly adamant to make things about themselves.
