New week, new screenshots! Not many this week:
In other news: Web chat 1.1.0 is out!
The mod I started on at the end of last year as a simple way to be able to chat with people in game while doing other stuff has come a long way:
Many thanks to teaearlgraycold who has contributed a great deal!
Bluemap updates and PSA
Finally, the usual bluemap stuff. Bluemap is a server map available in the browser. Not only does it allow you to look at the world, it is also used to mark things like player homes, farms, factories, and transport options.
A few tips and tricks:
If you want to add something as a marker on Bluemap, just reply to me here and I will get it sorted.
New on bluemap this week:
The readme on GitHub seems to be slightly out-of-date regarding web chat. Specifically it says it's only expected to work on 1.21.1. Since that's not what we're using here I figured that was probably stale and noticed that that statement doesn't match with the closed ticket or the modrinth data.
An issue on the GitHub may have made more sense, but I'm on my phone and this is the platform I'm already logged in to.
Oh yeah, completely forgotten to update the readme. Thanks!
I rode the purple line out to the end last night. It looping back caught me off guard and I died trying to catch the minecart after I exited it (I really have no business having elytra). Thankfully it's only a short boat's ride away from my pirate cove :)
But yeah, good progress on the purple line! I don't know if you were planning to take it onto the pirate island, but if you don't mind I'd like to handle setting up the station. Or at least I want to set it up inside the cave system and keep the rails underground. Just to keep the illusion that it's only accessible via water.
Also, I may lend a hand with converting some of the single-rail portions that I built into double-rail. I also want to clean up the part where I had it snake up the side of the mountain a bit.
Yeah I am planning to take it to both you and trim. But, I also didn't plan to do more than leave the line at your doorstep with just a stop block. I'll make sure to stop a bit sooner, probably on the "purple" island next to you so you can connect it in any way you see fit.
I'll give a yell when that part is finished so you can do the last bit ;)
Sure, I was planning on doing that eventually but first wanted to just make the line go somewhere.
To be honest, I quite like the bit of chaos there, but cleaning it up is fine by me as well :)
Well if you like it, I might take on the challenge of making that double-railed. Sounds like a fun little challenge.
Alright, it is done! At least functionally, I still need to properly create supports for all the bridges and clean it all up. But the rail is there!
At the island I made a three-way split and created the start of a tunnel for you to take wherever you want. At the intersection I basically made a little transfer point as well, so people can, for example, hop on the line from you and decide to ride it to town are transfer towards trim.
@trim I connected the purple line to you island. I did extend it towards some of your villager rail infrastructure you already had in place. I decided to just place the rail on the dirt as I didn't know what your preferences are there. Feel free to move the rail wherever.
Just something that occurred to me, there is still a ton of rail that is just 2x1 floating stone blocks. I am planning to make it all nice eventually like I have done here and here.
But, there is still a ton to be done. So, if someone needs a break from a big project, feel free to pick a span of rail and make a nice simple bridge.
@gravysleeve, tagging you just because I know your list of future projects can always use more :P
That is awesome! It's a fun ride.
On the way back I got shot out of the cart by a knockback skelly bow, the cart went riding off into the distance when I panicked putting it back down, so I had to run half the way back avoiding more skellies and endermen. Great fun (really, it was hilarious, I should have been recording).
Lots of nice flowers on the way, I shall have to collect some.
Did you use my rail duper? I should have mentioned it previous, there's stacks of rails there of all kinds, and you can make more easily. If you want some community stacks of rails replacing, I'll bring some over no prob.
Next time I take a trip though, I'm taking more minecarts.
Also, did you know you built that tunnel through the ice mountain only a few blocks south of where I dug my walking route initially? Maybe, I should have mentioned that before too, but I didn't know what route you were going. It was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one :)
Nice job
yeah it isn't quite safe along the entire route yet :P
Didn't know you had one. I used zestiers redstone factory for most of my rail needs.
Fun fact, if you are talking about the single track portion. That part of the rail was already there, made by hamstergeddon and likely predates the walking route ;)
Having several modes of transport isn't bad though.
Well shulker me timbers. That walking route took ages to dig with stone tools and a prayer :)

Very nice! I dug out the initial 2x2 tunnel from the pirate port to the end of the line last night. Hoping to work on cleaning it up a bit tonight.
Nice tunnel, though you probably want it to be 2x3? If you don't mind I can quickly take off one extra block since I am in the area anyway.
If you want to! I was going to get to that eventually. I'll probably end up going even bigger as you get closer to the pirate island, to accommodate more decorative ceiling/floor/walls. I tend to break big stuff like this into smaller, incremental tasks so I don't get bored with it :)
All done! I also had a bunch of rail leftover and that is now dotting the floor of your tunnel :P
I tend to do the same but in different ways. With tunnels, I personally find it much easier to just do them in one go as doing another pass (if I have dug the tunnel myself, in this case it was fine) feels like double work.
My portal broke, unfortunately -- I created a second portal in my base that is too close. I'll fix it soon™, but right now the nether roof portal is one-way.EDIT: Fixed! And thanks to @IsildursBane for debugging help. In case it helps someone else, what ended up working for me is:
Step 3 probably isn't necessary but I suspect the game created an extra Overworld-side portal while I was figuring this out.
I should be tried at the Hague for my crimes against piglins
That's close to me! We should do a meetup if you go there for trials :P
I have finished the excavation underneath the mall for a basement. I did not realize how big @GravySleeve made the mall until I had to excavate underneath it. Xultar's redstone should still be working, as well as the armour stand animation in Tilt. I was careful in my excavation around those. The planned vision will be dready grey empty backrooms-esque kind of space. I just need to gather the resources to build that now
Are the service paths still there? At some point I created a hidden network behind the walls up to the outside balconies. Though you would be forgiven for not noticing the little tunnels for what they are.
Edit:
Well at least the ladders are still there :P
I was wondering who dug all that out! You could also make part of it an underground parking garage!
Underground garage is not a bad suggestion, I may consider dedicating some of it towards that. Looking at the current parking lot, adding more parking would be logical. Also, there is no entrance near the parking lot, which kind of makes it feel off.
Edit: I am also shocked someone noticed the excavation process. It was relatively subtle except for my partially hidden entrance and that I changed a beacon in the mall to haste
I only noticed because I opened up the Xultar machine to show Mendanbar.
More progress being made on the Titanic build. Made a mistake unfortunately with one part of the superstructure being 1 block off center... Hoping to have that corrected sometime this evening as it's throwing off the funnel placement and is a lot more annoying to fix than I'd hoped. Overall though could have been worse. Once it's back in alignment, funnels should be going up. Was going to use Yellow Concrete but I think Yellow Terracotta would be an overall better color. Problem is I don't know where to get a large enough amount of that just yet.
Once the superstructure/funnels are complete, I'll work on finishing out some of the finer details of the deck (vent shafts, rails, etc.) and finish off with adding the propellers and some final contour fixes.
Not sure what I'm planning on once this build is finished but I'll definitely put some time into re-stocking the community center with oak wood and other materials.
I am willing to grind out some yellow terracotta for you
Edit: There were shulkers of undyed terracotta in storage, so was able to quickly gather it
Thank you so much! Funnels going up now :)
Generally speaking, the painted mountains terralith biome is probably the best place to farm stained clay. There is almost every shade of it in massive quantities & they're divided vertically (rather than horizontally like in mesa biomes). There is one 10000 blocks south of town, with a nether portal on the nether roof
So instead of doing any of the things I already had on my to do list, I decided to copy the moss farm in town for use as a pale moss farm. I'm gonna put a pale version of the same building around it and I think I'll link them together so if you afk at one, they'll both be active. I wouldn't say it's currently safe to afk there yet without the building around it, but it is functional if anyone needs pale moss.
Edit: The building for the pale moss farm is now complete! Tagging @Mendanbar because they built the original if I'm not mistaken. And @creesch to add the farm to the map if it's not done already. I also linked the two farms together so they both activate when a player is afk at either one.
That is a good idea for that small plot that is kind of hard to do much with. Also, I approve of the idea of starting a new project instead of doing something on your list (most of my stuff is sitting at 90% complete).
So for those who are not running Distant Horizons, and want to improve the abrupt feeling of the horizon the Fog mod might help. I personally think that vanilla minecraft poorly handles the edge of loaded chunks as the fog is not thick enough and you can still see the edge. This helps by just creating a thickening fog on the horizon, that is a smoother transition. It does decrease your view distance, as the fog starts earlier than the vanilla fog. I have had to tweak the settings a bit to get it working for me, but overall it is a nice mod that I am going to continue experimenting with
Anybody seen the upcoming content that was revealed at Minecraft LIVE? We're getting built-in shaders and a happy ghast!
Some of us discussed the built-in shaders on the server yesterday and the general consensus was that nobody was super excited. Cool in a vacuum, though.
They looked like the complementary ones, I'm using now, I'll be happy to switch to the built-in ones once they hit! Fancier shaders are great for screenshots, less so for playing
I mean, if they act and feel exactly the same, sure. But that remains to be seen of course. More importantly, it is bedrock only for now.
Not seen it, the shaders were discussed online as pickles already said. Having a better looking default is nice, but for now it is bedrock only, and it remains to be seen how good the implementation is.
The happy ghast seems neat though!
In watching Xisuma's recap video I have a few thoughts:
Shaders seem like nothing overally spectacular, and not coming to Java soon but I think will be a good improvement. It requires people to not have to mod their games as much, as for some players adding mods may be above their skill level. Having it built in makes shaders more accessible to everyone. It may also add some features into the basegame that will improve shaders.1
Xisuma made this comment about drops (at the 6:06 mark):
Xisuma's comments give me hope for the future development of Minecraft. I think Minecraft's development has added a lot of features that could use some expansion as there are features or mechanics that have been ignored.
1 With regards to the modding community, I saw an interesting/valid argument on why Mojang does not buy mods and integrate them into the game. Mojang cannot guarantee that the current mod writer wrote all the code themselves or if they built on existing mods that may have been abandoned. So Mojang may not want to buy the rights to Complimentary Reimagined shaders and add that to the game, as it may be hard to determine all the current and past contributors, and is instead developing their own shaders in-house.
Yeah, I kinda feel conflicted a bit on the saddled ghast, part of me loves how silly it is, but at the same time, it feels like a mod some kid made. I didn't consider the usefulness for people with sky bases...gives me ideas for the future....
Yeah, that would be an accurate description of how I feel about it. Mechanics wise I quite like how they are trying to add a flying vehicle. There is some potential in the currently proposed design, but it is not quite there yet. Seeing some of the reactions online, it seems like people are unsure of the texture so hopefully Mojang's art team takes the next few months to revisit the current design and play around with it some more.
Finally installed shaders (complementary) and took a peek around my house. Overall, nothing wowed me, except my new transit stop looks quite nice with shaders. Also, the diorite bridge looks quite nice with shaders, as it creates some fun sun beams.
Another nice addition once you have shaders going is a texture pack that adds a bit of depth to block faces (PBR). I like Pixlli, which does a good job of keeping the vanilla look and feel while adding extra detail and depth
I will look into that, but still trying to figure out shaders still. There are some things with shaders that I still need to tweak settings, but also I am probably not going to play with shaders on most of the time. The nice thing about running vanilla is it looks good for everyone, and looks better for those running shaders and maybe some texture packs.
I did a quick look at Pixlli and from the posted screenshots it kind of felt like this weird mix between looking vanilla, but also just different enough that it looks off. It might look better in game so I will check it out once I have shader settings settled
Does anyone have a design for a dirt -> mud machine that will actually work on our paper server? I tore down the one that was in front of Evie's house in town cause it wouldn't work properly, and the bigger one I tried building next to the sea pickle farm didn't work either so I tore it back down too. I'd like to put in another skyscraper with this farm inside.
I also finished the building to cover the new resin farm @creesch built (side note, resin blocks are great scaffolding blocks!).
I've also cleared the area next to the cherry tree farm to start building an abandoned train depot there. I started gathering materials this morning and looking at references for inspiration.
Unless it has broken recently, there is one in eyechoirs' place, although it is meant for clay production
Yeah, mud to clay is easy, the issue with the dirt to mud farms is finding a way to automatically cycle through water bottles. Every design I've seen uses the same basic setup but it doesn't work.
Edit: OH, I just realized, eyechoirs design goes from dirt to mud then into clay, so I should be able to copy just that portion. I'll check it out again later today.
Yeah, I should have maybe specified more how Eyechoirs had their system setup
Copying @eyechoirs design did the trick! His design seems to slow down the process a tiny bit to make it work. Next steps are figuring out how/where exactly to place a tnt duper, adding storage, and putting a building around it.
Edit: I copied the tnt duper at the tree farm with litematica and did some testing in creative on how to position it for my mud farm. Then I built it on the server and it worked fine until I turned it off and it blew itself up. :/
I'll have another go at it tomorrow.
Edit 2: Doh! Forgot to waterlogged the halfslab, no wonder it blew up! Mud farm is done! @creesch
I'll try to remember adding it once I am home. Fyi, if you give me the coordinates it becomes a bunch easier to add.
Sorry! I usually dont remember to make a comment here until after I've logged off so I didn't have the coords handy. Mud farm is at -130, 400.
No problem, it is more a nice to have :)
I just took a look, I love it! Captures the style I was thinking of perfectly. I keep forgetting about using resin as scaffolding.
