I'm one of those glad that The Sims finally has competition. There is literally no other game that fills that niche and gameplay, so some competition is VERY good.

An important note for anyone who wants to try it though is that the game is VERY taxing on computers. The recommended specs from the developer are pretty high for even the minimum recommendation, and require 60-75 GB of file space. This is probably one of the biggest hurdles InZoi faces for success. Sims players tend to be pretty heavily on the casual or cozy side of the gamer spectrum, and those sorts of games usually don't call for super high-end computers. So a big chunk of their target market won't have devices capable of playing it.

Sadly, I'm not surprised. I think I've mentioned before on past discussions that it's harder than ever for a new competitor to break into The Sims' market due to how much graphics and game technology have advanced since the original. There's not just a ton of work needed to make a brand new game on the same level as The Sims 4, but the execution is also more demanding due to all the features.

I'm not sure how much InZoi can be optimized once it's finished. Especially since I heard one of the devs apparently claimed he expects to need ten years to achieve his vision for the game, so... Yeah.

As a huge fan of Life Sim games (they're my guilty pleasure), I've been genuinely excited for inZOI ever since it was announced. The Sims, and the bug riddled hellscape of horrible monetization practices that EA has turned it into, has desperately needed a proper competitor for decades. So I'm excited to finally be able to give inZOI a try. Thanks for sharing, @tango!

I feel like the market for that is a pretty big one.

Don't really like the 'hyper realistic, super attractive' art style but I may have to give it a go anyway.

I watched a stream yesterday and it was quite nice visually despite being unfinished. I believe it will be good even if only to make EA realize they have to improve to maintain their player base.

I've never heard of this before. From the focus on "creators", the trailer pictures showcasing an asset store, and a scan through the description my first impression was that it's a new Second Life but reviews seem to mostly compare it to the sims? Looks pretty at any rate.

Positive reviews aren't horribly informative, mostly jokes/quips and saying it's good for early access. The negative reviews seem to fall in two camps 1) complaining it's too sandboxy and not gamey and 2) nazi complaints like masculinity, inability to be a pedo, and it being "very jewish" (wtf). Probably need to give it a bit more time to spread beyond early enthusiasts and the politically motivated before the reviews will get actually informative

The overall sandbox focus seems to be where the Sims comparison comes from. I think it could strike a nice balance between Sims zaniness and self-insert role-playing

I saw someone else doing that. It’s so realistic that it’s uncanny valley in a way I have not really experienced before. Very creepy to me.

Those are some intense system requirements. A RTX2060 minimum and a RTX3070 recommended feels a bit heavy to me. Asking for a 7800X3D as your recommended CPU is kinda wild.

I like The Sims and in theory I like the life simulator genre. One of the Sims games I had the most fun with was The Sims Bustin' Out for PS2. You would move from home to home, meeting new Sims, completing new challenges, and then "levelling up" to the next home. You started in a trailer and ended up in a mansion. Each home had its own story and there was an over-arching story for the whole game.

I very much doubt I would still find that game fun today. My standards have risen a lot over the last 20 years of improvement in the art of video games. But I think the concept of goal-oriented play and story-oriented play still holds up. A lot of Sims players do self-imposed challenges like having 100 babies, so I think I'm not alone in feeling this way.

The part of playing The Sims that makes me feel sad and empty inside is when I feel like I'm playing with dolls in a doll house, making them act out this fantasy life that I don't have. I don't know if that's fixable or that's just an inevitable part of Sims-like life simulator games.
