The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
The server will shut down on July 17th in the evening (US Pacific time)
We will then start up on the 25th for a special 3 day hardcore survival server. After that the server will be offline for a few months for everyone's Minecraft-o-meter to recharge.
Been a good run. At the start I said I wanted to be more involved in setting up infrastructure and building the town. Didn't really build much around town aside from the red line, but I'm proud of that accomplishment all the same :)
I'll need to think about some goals and ideas for next "season"!
It's been a pleasure! o7
I'll miss you all! Well, I'll see you all in random threads here, but still!
Will you be sharing the server's map files again?
Yes sir
I seem to remember this was somewhat problematic last time, did we work out why? I can't remember
Probably because my port forwarding setup was broken. I can't be the first seeder without fixing that.
Ah torrents yes. Now I remember. I saw another system for that the other day which was sharing by codes. What was that thing again? Er...
Furtles...
Resilio Sync, that was it. I seemed to have far fewer port / peer issues with that last I tried it
I'll upload pictures later, but I've added another shop to the mall, 'Tech Bros', and I've also built another hangar at the airport. @creesch
Edit: Tech Bros! and the new hangar!
In non-minecraft related news, my dog got out of the backyard on Saturday and ran out in front of a car. Luckily he only has a broken leg, but man am I tired of this year's events. :(
Edit: Jasper's X-Ray
I am not near a computer for over a week so can't properly check the hangar. Looks good in bluemap though!
Also, poor dog, can't catch a break it seems :(
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully Jasper makes a speedy recovery
Good news everyone! The pumpkin and melon farm in community farms area is finally overflowing with pumpkins! It took almost a full year, but we got there in the end. Now you can get tons of emeralds to fully capitalize on the villager trading hall! The melons still need a bit more time before they are overflowing, but maybe in 6-8 months we will get there.
So it turns out the philosophy I used in building this farm in the early stages of the server did not pan out. My intention was for it to be a small farm that was frequently loaded. I kept it small to not cause lag, with the hopes of its location having the chunk loaded frequently. However, just how town developed it was not loaded as frequently as I initially expected.
Final call to get your armor stand into the Hall of Heroes if you haven't done so already! I also recommend before the end that you log in, unequip all your gear and inventory, and stash it in your base so that when the world download is available, we can all see everyone else's stuff (I think Enderchest contents are safe? I can't remember for sure so I'm not risking it.)
My to-do list this week is hefty, but not impossible:
Finish up shops in the mall and a few small details (I've taken care of most of this in the last week and today, Good Chkn will be completed tomorrow).
Build two more hangars at the airport. Finish airport interior. Build a couple more planes. (If someone else wants to build a hangar or two, that'd be cool!)
Help anyone who needs it with armor stands. (@j0hn1215, if you leave me your head somewhere, I can build the idea for your HoH statue we briefly discussed recently online, just give me any additional details you think of).
I also intend to make some videos of town and other major projects while the server is still up since I suspect this world will be tough to run offline for many computers. If you want one of your projects to be recorded, let me know (include coords to make it easy for me please).
It's been a blast playing with everyone!
Edit: I'm very nearly done with the last bits of work in the mall. My last task there is to add details to @mintysaurus' noodle shop. I'm hoping you're OK with me renaming it to Noodle Palace so I can make a sign that fits properly? π€
I haven't been able to play recently but it's been a pleasure to hop on and roam around the server. I had a lot of fun contributing a tiny bit to the metro system and building my little pathetic treehouse. Thanks again for hosting the server, I enjoyed this world just as much as the last one!
@Chaosphoenix_28 I have started the extension of the Lime Line from the transit hub to your train station connecting you up to the rail network. Also, your train station is looking really nice.
I have finished the Lime Line extension. Here is a screenshot showing the line addition. The green line is the extension that I completed, the magenta line is the proposed idea I had to extend to a viewpoint to the river (that would probably overlook chewonbananas base). I included my idea of a proposed extension in case someone wants to do it, as I do not have the time before server shutdown.
@Chaosphoenix_28 I understand you might not log on to finish your base before the server shutdown, but I would encourage you to log on to check out the rail extension. I decorated the tunnel using the same blocks that you were building in. It was a really fun block palette to build in, and not one I would have naturally picked so that was fun for me.
Also, in doing this extension, I had to build another bridge over the river (and did it without dying, which is a big improvement from my attempts early on in the server). There are a lot of bridges by the transit hub now (total of 5 going over the river). Then I started counting, and in this area surrounding town I counted 32 bridges. In that count, I did not include the tiny bridges that span over canals inside of town (which are a grand total of 4 blocks long), but I did include the bridges inside of town that spanned the flooded ravine. We built a lot of bridges over the river
I'll log in again, now that I know it'll be shut down. I want to get it as close to "finished" as I can.
Also thanks for finishing the tunnel. Looking forward to checking it out.
"How many bridges are in Tildetown?" sounds like a title of an Any Austin video. π
Well also, it can get quite pedantic. How do you define a bridge? Are the tiny little canal crossings bridges? If so, what about the canal crossing inside community stables? Does the purple line count as a bridge? Does the kelp waterway that crosses the river count as a bridge? Then there is the question of defining Tildestown. Do you include the bridges across the river north of spawn? Those bridges are clearly not in town, but also there is kind of a wilderness being homesteaded vibe going on in that area. Tildestown has very fuzzy town limits, so trying to count the bridges in town is quite difficult
Now I'm extra convinced that this needs an investigation by Any Austin.
Lawful evil: A paved pathway is a bridge
Neutral evil: The DeLijn Line is a bridge
Chaotic evil: Minty's base is a bridge
So due to vacation, my last day on the server will either be this Friday or Saturday. I think overall I will be able to finish my projects, which are:
Lime Line ExtensionTidy up little things on my CitadelCreate a secret room to leave behind my normal inventory, armour, and ender chest contentsThere are a few projects that I will not get around to, but they were not started either:
So I finished up my last little bit on the server, and will probably not be logging on again except maybe for exploration and hanging out with people if the server is active today. I got my base to a complete stage where there does not feel like there is any unfinished projects.
I also created a graphic to show the footprint of my base. I do want to try and create a floorplan of the base, but will not have time for that before going on vacation tomorrow.
It was tons of fun playing on this server. I will miss working on these projects with you all, but am looking forward to the next iteration of the server. o/
One of the things I am adding in a room with my gear on server closure is a book explaining all the builds I have done. The goal is to explain my inspiration of the various builds I did or the rationale behind things.
One book that I do not have time for but would be helpful to be made, is a book detailing all the Bluemap info. Also in the book it would be worth including stuff that has not been added to bluemap, but should be added like bases not in the registry.
The update is currently only blocked on the Terralith and Nullscape data packs. Hopefully just a few more days!
Tbh, the server is currently so dead that I'm fully expecting you to pull the plug soon anyway... Is it worth the (small) effort?
Itβs my hobby.
Haven't been super active recently unfortunately but I can't thank you enough for setting all this up, it has been a pleasure playing with everyone on the server and totally understand if you decide to shut it down, even if it means my builds disappear. It had been years since I played Minecraft and it was amazing being able to see the ingenuity of everyone.
Tea made the world available as a download last time, and I'm sure he will again. I also plan to make some more youtube videos showcasing a lot of what's been done as well!
I have a couple ideas to propose we could all discuss.
What if we pull the plug soon (another week or two to quickly finish up projects), but this time, instead of a few months of hiatus, we immediately spin up a creative world server for a few months? I know @TaylorSwiftsPickles and I both have ideas for big projects that we're waiting for a new "season" to begin before we start. I planned to use any downtime between servers to do some preparation for this project, so a multi-player server world would be a more fun way to do that kind of thing. As a sidebar to this idea, we could also just switch the existing server over to creative instead for a while.
Alternatively, and this would be more work on your end tea, but what if we use WorldEdit to delete most of the generated world outside of town where people never built (probably completely delete the nether too), update to the new version, regenerate new terrain a few thousand blocks from town, and change spawn to this new location? This has many obvious drawbacks for people wanting to start completely fresh, such as the Ender dragon not respawning (unless we reset the end too, but I do very much love our concrete/sand duper), and you'd have to be mindful of not going towards town while exploring if you don't want to jump to the endgame. But for someone like me who likes the endgame, when building massive projects becomes significantly easier, I could just start work immediately. I'm not a biggest fan of this option, but it's an option.
But if we do plan on continuing to update without a restart, I'd feel wary about starting a big project in case server activity doesn't pick back up, and then we decide to reset anyway. The scale of my new idea dwarfs the volcano, so it's probably gonna take more time than all of my projects from this season combined.
Would there be any interest in a one weekend hardcore world?
I can host a creative world after as well.
I would certainly join up for that and probably die within the first hour. But it would sure be a fun hour :)
I would be interested, but depending on the weekend, may not be available. I feel like such a short time frame would be fun, but since it is summer, I feel for a lot of people it will be hit or miss if they can engage with it.
I'm also tentatively interested. It really depends on how busy I happen to be on the weekend in question.
I doubt a hardcore world would generate much interest to be honest, if you die, you respawn in spectator mode and wouldn't be able to do anything else. I feel like it would take less than a day or two for everyone to be spectators. XD
Edit: Just realized you said "one weekend" instead of "one week". I'd be down for that!
Hey, I've generated so much data from my 2000+ deaths that I'm confident I'll survive ;)
On the one hand I'm finding this a pretty cool idea although I do not plan to participate. On the other hand, I believe that if we don't have a large hiatus, a lot of people probably won't rejoin the new season when it eventually does start.
But yeah, for the most part I've been tired of MC for a few months & I also ended up hating the theme I picked earlier on in the season. On a positive side though, joining online just for chatting was really great for me over the last several months, due to real-life reasons.
My initial thought is that seems a bit short notice, but that is partially due to going on vacation on Sunday so for me it would be an even shorter notice. I was kind of thinking unless the server picks up activity, the end of the month seems like a realistic timeline.
I think this idea has both merit and drawbacks. Here are my thoughts off the top of my head
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Overall, I do agree that we are at the point of a server restart soon. I know others have been thinking of plans for the next server for months, and I am finally getting to that point too. I still have lots of work I could do on my citadel, but I have also been starting to think of new transit hub and community storage ideas as well.
This is actually a lot simpler if we use MCASelector. I frequently use it to "prune" my own server worlds in anticipation of updates. The whole process only takes a few minutes and I've never had a case where something important was deleted.
The only thing I would worry about with this approach would be the overhead of the existing chunks and map data. No matter how you slice it, Minecraft worlds just get heavy over time and it can bog down the server. But tea would be better able to say what the real impact would be in this case.
Just thinking through this some more, I also like that this approach could be set up as an opt-in of sorts. Anyone who would rather stick around the current Tildetown for whatever reason can just retain their spawn (as long as they don't break their bed), and anyone wishing to participate can just empty gear into a chest, break their bed, and respawn at the new world center.
... on the other hand, this does lock us in to the current data packs / plugins we are using, and it might be nice to have the freedom to re-evaluate if we want to keep things like Terralith.
MCASelector is what I meant, I knew I had the wrong thing.
If the updates were larger, I would argue that the new content has the potential to interest players into returning. However, the updates have been fairly small (although nice), so I do not think that would be the case
Can't be dead, John's on 24/7! ;)
