Would anybody be interested in a Tildes Minecraft server?
unofficial of course but like, a server for the tildes community with whatever addons people like. I just thought it would be interesting with how civilized our community is (most of the time).
I personally like Minecraft, and am all over having Modded installed, but the last time I joined a community minecraft server (the one for the Lounge on Reddit) I was the only one on most of the time.
I hope to see more people on this community's server :) I'd play it
sweet dude, if there's a modpack or just anything you're interested in let me know and I can set it up, right now i have an old desktop dedicated to a server for friends but I could definitely handle ~50 players
if this post gets a few more comments i'll get to setting up a new domain tonight
Another user mentioned Direwolf20's pack for 1.12. It's geared toward learning, but also has some mods that are meant for the late-game so you always have something to work towards.
Sounds good to me, I'd play at least once in a while
I would argue that a vanilla server makes the barrier of entry lower.
What's your preferred style: vanilla / modded / custom?
mostly vanilla but in spigot for the commands and a few plugins related to anticheat and something for claiming land
There's a Forge plugin that adds an in-game claim and chunkloading feature. The chunkloading can be disabled in config, and you can change the number of chunks that the players are allowed to claim. It's called "FTB Utilities". Players can also add others to their friends list to allow them to build and interact inside the claim.
Personally, I'd be interested to see if we could do without land claims and all that – I always find it really irritating trying to work out how it's been set up slightly differently on every server, and I'd hope that the people here are nice enough not to trample on other people's work.
I agree, that would be awesome if everybody could just NOT loot eachother lol.
On public servers claiming is a requirement, but I feel if you have to be whitelisted through here it won't be an issue. ~temporalarcheologist, what do you think?
I think you have to use the @ to summon a user.
I'll give it a shot: @temporalarcheologist
I'd like to assume that most everyone here is relatively good natured and wont just destroy with reckless abandon, but spawn would definitely be protected with that being the minimal amount of build restrictions
Woops. The tildes before a name are for the groups.
Factions! (Used to play the so much of that back in the day)
I'd be down for something modded; vanilla doesn't really hold my interest after all these years. SevTech Ages is being a lot of fun, and is well suited to server play.
I dunno how much time I want to be spending in MineCraft nowadays, but I'd at least check it out if you made it!
Sure, I'd play.
This sounds like it could be a lot of fun!
If the server is vanilla, can I suggest having as little plugins as possible (aside from something to view edit history so you can tell if someone griefed).
I used to play a bit on a private (you have to apply) server called SKCraft, and it was pretty awesome. It was almost entirely vanilla, and there was a real community that helped each other build, and even a massive rail network spanning the entire map. Here's a very old map of the rail network (the server shut down, and the website is gone, so I can only find a few cached pages). This image is from 2014, but it was a lot larger when I played, to the point where they had a little Google-maps-style widget on their website to display an interactive map.
I think modded would also be fun, there's much more content. I think any FTB pack that has the essential mods, but isn't too heavy, would be fine.
That's a great name you've got there, definitely going to be the vintage of vintage in a couple years. I've seen you on a few of the other communities as well
Oh nice, that could be sweet. I play casually, but being alone isn't as much fun. :p
I'd play if there were something set up.
I'd be interested in trying something like this out. Minecraft has changed a lot since I last played but getting back into it would be fun.
I'm up for it. Vanilla gets boring pretty fast these days, but something lightly modded would be nice. Just some basic automation stuff so the grind is a little less crazy.
Can I recommend direwolf20's pack on feed the beast? It's not too heavy a pack, it has a lot of options in what way to do things, and it's been fun to play.
I'll play on whatever though, so...
Direwolf's packs are geared toward people wanting to learn the ins and outs of playing with modded Minecraft, but also has loads of possibilities for more experienced players. I think it'd be a good pick for a Tildes server.
I'd definitely give it a shot.
I'd definitely play! (I prefer vanilla.)
I've been playing in singleplayer recently with nothing but Quark and BetterFoliage. Something like that would be of interest to me.
I might not have a lot of time for it coming up, but I would give it a shot. I would love if it had some mods, especially the more industrial ones. I will understand if we don't have any, as they can expand system requirements a lot. Most of the mods I like aren't even being updated anymore as far I as know. The last time I played was a custom 1.7 mod pack on a private server.
I'd be up to join a minecraft server. Though, I can't promise commitment.
I’d play, vanilla or modded both are fun to me, as long as it’s not a super grindy pack
This sounds like a great time! What version are you choosing though?
I'd be up for it. I prefer modded, but would do vanilla if that's what's decided.
how about minetest? it's a little bit more on the "mood" of the community (freedom)
Though i would play minecraft with plugins :)
I agree, minetest would be a cooler option, if possible. Hopefully we can have some sort of poll to vote between minetest, minecraft, or a modded minecraft.
Oh yes, please! I would push for complete vanilla, but I'm a purist. If you need any help with anything please DM me :)
hey, i'm just boosting the count for people who are interested
Any news on this?
so, the desktop i planned on using is no longer available due to a family member moving out. I could quite easily start up a small server for~$5/month but I currently don't have a stable source of income. Once I get a job I'll be able to get this up and running and will make a followup thread.
I’d be up for chipping in a few dollars to host the sever, PayPal, crypto or whatever. I think a server in someone’s public cloud is a better plan if we want the sever to live more than a few weeks.
i don't quite have the technical know-how to set that up
I actually have a small root server I could let you borrow./set up with MC for you.
