It seems obsessive and Wierd to me to declare your final film unless you are physically unfit to work anymore. At ten movies, Spielberg was just getting started.

I feel the same way. I personally love his movies, but his 10 films limit is just self imposed and he and everyone else makes a big deal of it. I'm very skeptical that he'd actually commit to it...
I feel the same way. I personally love his movies, but his 10 films limit is just self imposed and he and everyone else makes a big deal of it. I'm very skeptical that he'd actually commit to it though. At the very least he'd direct specific scenes in movies like he did in Sin City. He keeps harping on it and it seems like a self-righteous play on his end, but it's just me. He could at any time decide to make more movies if he wants, but I guess this "10 Movie Portfolio" is something to drum up hype.
My theory is that he will switch to TV after his 10th movie. There's no way he will actually retire this young, he loves writing and making movies too much. I'm sure someone like HBO or FX would...

Hollywood Reporter just wrote something about this. Not that l ever agreed with Tarantino’s reasoning. But I don’t think there was ever this much discussion about it until he scrapped this movie....

It does seem strange. He's also said that he wants to do a Star Trek movie, but apparently that doesn't count because he's not doing both the writing and directing, just only directing or writing...

I know it's slightly controversial and that I'm in the minority, but it often took me out of the story a little bit when watching Better Call Saul, that Mike is very obviously significantly older despite playing even younger, and all the flashback scenes with Bob Odenkirk where he was supposed to pass for a ~30 year old just looked so bad. It was still a great show, mind, but those parts were really just laughable to me. I guess I just don't understand why they're afraid of casting someone of the appropriate age when we're at the point that they try to de-age these actors not only 20-30 years. It's just really off in my opinion

deaging hasn't looked good yet. One day soon they'll nail it. Did you read the OUATIH novelization? I think that is the best format for more Cliff stories. In fact, a series of stories about a stuntman doing whatever he can to get by would be pretty good... especially knowing some of the details from the book.
Anyway, good call on QTs part. I can't imagine what he'll do. He's covered every major genre, hasn't he?
I hope he's switching to the abandoned "Vega Brothers" project, starring present day Travolta and Madsen as their respective dead characters, with no explanation.

I don't know if it was intentional click bait, or just careless word choice. I guess I'm more used to seeing "drop" in the sense of canceled projects rather than surprise-releases, because that's...

I never thought about it before, but it's kind of funny how "drop" has two definitions that are almost exact opposites.

Even as a Tarantino fanboy, everything I've read of the premise of The Movie Critic didn't sound like something that would blow up my skirt. I trust my boy would make something entertaining out of it; maybe even something profound. But it would be a smaller scale and very personal picture. Not something that you declare as the deneuoment to your career.
My suggestion for QT would be to abandon his self-imposed ten film limit, shoot The Movie Critic, and then afterwards direct scripts that he hasn't written himself. All of his films have come from his own, singular vision, and I think it would be interesting if he switched to being a more collaborative filmmaker later in life, raising voices for the next generation of cinema.

I bet production companies/streamers would be lining up to offer him deals like the one Phoebe Waller-Bridge had

oh damn that's surprising. Tarantino has always been a bit hit or miss for me personally but I was intrigued by the premise of this one
Apparently Pitt was going to reprise his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood role for this one.
I really hope he gets into writing more novels after his tenth is out. A OUATIH prequel would be alright, but not final movie-worthy.

Weird choice of headline; makes it sound like he surprised-released it rather than walking away from the project.

That makes it a contronym!

Welcome to the art (science?) of clickbait journalism.
Well I’m glad, The Movie Critic sounded pretty boring.

Too bad it wasn’t a movie based on the 90’s animated series with Jon Lovitz.
