It looks like uninspired garbage. Can't wait for the live action fad to be over.

Original lilo is much younger, and way more feral. She didn't get bumped unconvincingly during a dance so much as BIT other little girls and got austricized. And sister Nani was very very wide bottomed :) why didn't they stick with that. Makes everything look generic.

I love the original. There's nothing pathetic about Lilo, she's awesome. I guess they'll eventually run out of movies. I hope they don't try to do Sleeping Beauty, nobody would be happy with that.

Eh, once they run out it'll be time to reboot the reboots. See Superman and Joker franchises.

I have hated pretty much every live-action remake Disney has put out over the years, but this one actually looks pretty good to me. Lilo & Stitch was a bit after my time though, so I don't really have any nostalgia for it, which could be the reason why I am not disappointed with this remake.

To be fair it doesn't look "bad", just "unnecessary". It's like, let's take a game like CupHead and make it live action. Why. The style is intentional.

I don't see why whether they're "necessary" or not really matters, TBH. Nobody is forcing people to go watch the live-action remakes. And they're not totally overriding the original versions with the remakes either; You can still watch the originals on Disney+ (or on DVD if you own them).

And as for "why"? Despite me personally hating most of the live-action remakes I've seen, I don't actually hate the concept of them in general since they allow new generations to experience watching them in theater. E.g. My 11yo nephew has seen most of the Disney originals and loves them, but he has also seen a lot of the live-action remakes in theater and had a ton of fun watching those too. And that ultimately matters more than my curmudgeonly old self hating them. ;)

p.s. Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love it if they re-released the originals in theaters instead (or even alongside the remakes as double-features) so I could get to experience seeing them again (or for the first time, in some cases) in a theater too. But that is probably pretty unrealistic to expect in the vast majority of cases. E.g. I very much doubt they would have ever re-released the original Pete's Dragon to theaters since, despite it being one of my absolute favorite musicals, it's not exactly popular or well known these days, the quality of the film+animation is terrible, it's extremely dated thematically, and it's unlikely it would have made nearly as much money as the remake did. I fucking loathed the live-action remake, especially since they removed all the songs I love, but my nephew didn't care about that and loved it. So I don't really begrudge Disney for remaking it.

I didn’t know they remade Pete’s Dragon. I just watched both previews, talk about a tone change.

Pete's Dragon is good. It's from the director of A Ghost Story and The Green Knight

It definitely looks like a remake for sure, and Stitch actually looks really good tbh. I kinda hope they make Lilo a bit more annoying, she seems pretty bland in this.

I think it's a bit of child actor and a bit of editing, but yes hopefully she's as much a fighter at the start as Stitch is. It does look cute though and the CGI didn't make me want to chuck it...

Yeah, it's just a trailer but I feel like all of the scenes are basically 1 for 1 so I'm actually a bit more positive about this one.

Beauty and the Beast was pretty close to a 1 for 1 remake and it felt so very unnecessary (but I'll watch anything with Dan Stevens in it).

That actually wasn't bad. Disney's live action remakes have typically sucked but this feels like it brings a lot of originality. Definitely seeing this on the cinematic release.

Should be a perfectly okay movie. I was disappointed that Bubbles wasn’t played by a larger actor. He’s overused, and not black, but The Rock would have been a better fit.

You’re right. It’s surprising I’d never heard of him as described as more than Samoan.

I don't think The Rock is held in particularly high regards in Hollywood these days due to recent allegations of his unprofessional behavior on the set of Rampage, Ballers, and Red One. He was supposedly constantly late for filming (sometimes by over 7 hours), and he was allegedly also seen peeing in bottles on set (which he actually admitted he does to "save time")... so I suspect Disney is probably unlikely to hire him for any live-action roles any time soon.

As far as I understand, he was the one who lobbied Disney to adapt Moana into a live action remake, and is a producer for the project

That actually looked pretty decent...until the human characters arrived. This mix of live-action characters and CGI doesn't work. When you have CGI aliens and humans clashing like that, it just makes the humans annoying.

It also makes them all look stupid for not immediately realising that Stitch is clearly not a dog because he looks nothing like one, and the only way that could be more glaringly film-breaking is if one of the characters in its mirror universe acknowledges that humans on their mirror Earth are also aware of the concept of aliens.

I have my hunches, but even then I'm still kind of doubtful one could divine a strong connection in the metrics.

Getting a wider audience is nice for the box office, I'm sure, but as long as the funny blue alien is making my kids giggle, I'm good.

Nostalgic adults. In this case it's gonna be people in their 20s due to Gen Z growing up with the original film.
