It feels like there's no song of the summer 2023
Is it just me or does it feel like there is no big new song of the summer this year? Nothing is standing out to me. Like a Watermelon Sugar type of anthem, etc. What big hit are you all listening to a lot so far?
I feel like everyone just listens to the hyper-individualized stuff on Spotify or youtube. Maybe the big radio song is dead? Probably not. I'm just old and out of touch. Here I'll ask my 13 year old.

She doesn't know. My wife says "Karma is my boyfriend" whatever that is lol (or a Dua Lipa song that she can't name). My
guessprediction is Flowers by Miley Cyrus.Flowers is probably the closest thing to a song of the summer.
What was it last year anyway? I know Watermelon Sugar was 2020. What was 2021, for that matter? Levitating?
The Last time I remember a song of the summer being a thing was Fancy by Iggy Azalea.
Edit: actually make that Closer by the Chainsmokers
I would say As It Was for 2022, again by Harry Styles.
Kiss Me More (Doja Cat), Good 4 U (Olivia Rodrigo), and Stay (Justin Bieber) were all big in 2021.
Drivers License, was that 2021?
Yeah! It came out in January 2021 so I didn't know if that was too early to call it the song of the summer, but it definitely was playing all summer long that year, hahaha.
Such a good beat 💜
Perhaps you are more familiar with the parody version (and certified banger) Kermit is my boyfriend? My gf and I didn't realize it wasn't original for months until we happened to hear the Taylor Swift song in an Uber.
"Karma" is one of the big songs off Taylor Swift's latest album, Midnights.
Dua Lipa is actually long overdue for a new album (Future Nostalgia was out in 2020) but she recently released "Dance the Night" for the Barbie movie--maybe that's what she's thinking of?
I am a Dua fan but Dance the Night didn't do much for me. Sounds too similar to some of her other hits.
Yeah, I didn't love it either.
My girlfriend and I are both big Future Nostalgia fans, but we were talking about Dance the Night in the car one day and she said, "We're so desperate for more Dua that we're just listening to this on repeat." That pretty much summed up my thoughts.
Love Dance the Night. Not to get too annoying about it but it’s what I’m currently predicting to win the Oscar for Original Song.
Honestly think it might be just a little too early to know.
Flowers by Miley Cyrus is a great pick (@J23).
I could also see something off Olivia Rodrigo's or Doja Cat's new albums blowing up.
Vampire is out June 30.
I feel like Kylie Minogue - Padam Padam might possibly perhaps maybe become this summer's song
It already is for the gays.
Why that is indeed how I know of it 🌈
That’s what I was gonna say. I’ve been listening to that song constantly.
When all else fails, Boys of Summer never fails. Most of the new music I've heard samples from famous old songs and are trash. I've heard good stuff, but nothing I'd qualify as a summer song.
I haven't had a new "summer" song since 2019's Summer Days by Martin Garrix ft. Macklemore, and Patrick Stump. I am going to check back in on this thread periodically throughout the week and see if I can't freshen up my selection. I've already queued up the mentions so far.
My hit of the summer is Gila Monster by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, off their new album PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation.
It's...probably not going to be a mainstream hit. That said, I have been amazed at how big this band is getting in the last few years.
Gila into Dragon (or the other way around, as released on the single) is just an awesome pairing of tracks.
I just saw them at red rocks a few weeks ago, and I was not prepared for the absolutely massive crowd there. I've been to a few concerts at red rocks over the years, and have always had tons of room to wander around, sit, stand, etc. King Gizzy packed us in that massive venue like sardines...
I'd imagine they'll never be "mainstream" in the normal sense of the word because of the type of music they make, but they certainly are already mainstream and well-known in any crowd I run in. I see people wearing their merch at practically any concert I go to, and I don't even go to metal/rock shows.
May I humbly submit Portugal. The Man - Grim Generation. Just came out and I think that it is going to be my summer song.
Try "Therefore Me". It's got nothing at all to do with what's popular, but you might like it this summer. If you do, I recommend the full album: Morningside. Summer is a great time for fresh perspectives!
Here are some options, OP:

Summer did only start just 4 days ago...
Here in Denmark summer starts on June 1st. I am aware other countries use a different definition though - where do you live?
I'm in the US. The summer solstice marks the start of summer for the great majority of the world, but there are a few countries like yours where it starts on the 1st.
Historically, I've been able to rely on Enjoy 33
to let me know what the Summer Hit of the Summer is. It's a station broadcasting out of Bordeaux, France and it plays mainly summer beach party music. Nothing's jumped out at me this year yet though.
Haven't you heard what's been tearing up dance floors this summer?
