Holiday season playlist
I am wondering what people are listening to this holiday season and hoping to build a playlist BEFORE Christmas Day. I have no particular allegiance to Christmas or any other specific holiday, but it’s fun to have a certain category of songs I only really listen to for one month of a year.
To start, I’m a big fan of the band BROS and they have a few small Christmas albums. Their artist page on Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/bros/1151563604
Their actual website: https://dinealonerecords.com/artists/bros/
Related topic from 2023 that got a ton of responses, and you might find interesting:

I find it rare that I'm listening to entire Christmas albums. Because these weren't in the megathread from the other comment, I'll toss out Pomplamoose, specifically "A Better New Year" and "Boom Tinklelinketty Christmas" as songs regularly in my playlist that may not be as common. Laufey has some excellent Christmas songs also, but the vibe is more cozy fireplace.
Oooo I like this “Better New Year” and I’m betting I’ll like rest of pomplamoose too.
Here's a Goth Christmas playlist that I've been listening to a bit before unleashing it on the household:

I tend to favor older, more traditional carols rather than the newer, more pop stuff (i.e., more contemplative, less syrupy). I also find instrumental brass works well for Christmas. Here's a couple albums in my playlist:
Low has a Christmas album (titled Christmashttps://lowtheband.bandcamp.com/album/christmas). We have it on loop every Christmas. It is not upbeat, more wistful.
I am elated that you posted this album. I adored Low in the early 2000s, caught them supporting Wilco right after Drums and Guns released, but had no idea they released a Christmas album. This is going into the rotation immediately. Thank you for sharing!
The Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack
Sesame Street Christmas songs (from my childhood, at least partially from the special where Big Bird falls asleep waiting for Santa on the roof because he doesn't have a chimney )
I generally avoid the traditional christmas songs because
my heart is three sizes too smallthey get stuck in my head, and I find it very annoying. But I find Pentatonix's acapella christmas arrangements to be more tolerable than most. Especially The Little Drummer Boy and Mary Did You Know.
Besides the main standards, I have the following others on my personal playlist:
My personal playlist
Seth McFarlane and Liz Gillies released a Christmas Album last year (they also have a Christmas special coming out this year for Disney+).
Laufey recently released a cover of Santa Baby.
Billie Eillish has a cover of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
My main Christmas song is Last Christmas by Wham!
And here I am as basically your antithesis, taking part in Whamageddon!
when you said Bros, I thought you were talking about Bros and was so happy they were making new stuff... which it seems like they've done.
Here's Damien Jurado singing Christmas Time is Here (link)
Add that one Mariah Cary song about Christmas, i hear it's quite popular..
Speaking of, this cover and this mashup are perennial favorites of mine.
In my household, we love the Lindsey Stirling Christmas albums - Warmer in Winter and Snow Waltz. Electric violin covers of all the greats, some with vocals, some just instrumental, as well as some originals.
Oh baby, my family force favorite is the Family Force 5 Christmas Pageant. It's a whiter-than-snow rap rock crunk Christmas miracle that puts the make it rain on the baby Christ in Christmas. I wrote a review here. I genuinely listen to it (at least) once each Christmas season. I got my wife to want to listen to it (at least) once each Christmas season. It's so bad. It's so good.
I personally enjoy Pentatonix’ The Greatest Christmas Hits. I love Pentatonix, and that album covers most of the Christmas songs I like. I do skip some, but most are very good.
No need to make a playlist! SomaFM (internet radio) has already done that for you. Here are a couple of their stations, which are free with no ads:
