What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Managed to secure a job interview for tomorrow morning. Supervisor position in a field I have been dying to break into. Very excited.
Godspeed o7
Good luck!
Congrats and good luck! Hope it goes well!
Hope you smash it!
Every year I take a week long "summer vacation". My husband and I try to pack as many activities that we did as a kid into that week. This year we did a science kit, went to the book store, played mini golf, went to the batting cages, the arcade, went hiking, had lunch in the woods, went to waffle house in the middle of the day, saw the fire works and went to a festival. We have had two movie nights and stopped for a few mid day beers. Today we are going to a record shop and laser tag. Tomorrow is day drinking and Sunday is a day of rest.
It has been amazing and so so much fun.
This is beyond adorable. I love the idea of reliving the “glory days” aha. How long have you been doing this?
Probably about 10 or so years. It used to include a lot of bike riding but we are a bit squishier than we used to be.
I found a place where I can start my own car service business. Quite excited about this.
Also finished reading two books this week!
Awesome! Which books did you read?
Niki Lauda by Maurice Hamilton and Uskonnot Antiikin Roomassa by Hänninen, Kahlos and Lehtonen.
The Lauda book was okay, not much new or exciting but a good overview of his career. The Rome book was maybe a bit too niche for me, but well written.
Finished my handover documentation for when I leave my job next week. 27 tutorial videos and a comprehensive 4-page written guide full of useful links to things, hopefully it starts my successor off in a good place. Started planning for a neighbour's 60th birthday party that I'm hosting.
Had some failures with toilet training my puppy but that's to be expected, he's only 4 months old. The overall trend is still positive!
All inclusive vacation with the family at a resort in Rhodes. So basically sitting by the pool drinking various cold drinks, reading, splashing around with the kids and occasionally (as in constantly) trying to keep the conflicts between the two siblings at reasonable levels. Vacation with small children is a weird mix of being great and stressful. I kindof miss the quiet no stress office.
I had a big meeting yesterday so the majority of the week was preparing for that. Since we had a holiday on Tuesday, it was a wonky week, but I'm glad it's nearly behind me. I think today will be a wind-down day, maybe a little longer lunch break than normal :)
On the fourth, I chilled at home, ate some chips and dip, and binged all six movies in my Ju-on boxset. Wasn't a fan of White Ghost and Black Ghost, but the rest are great. Nice to just have those kinds of movie days.
I tried to take the whole week off work, I rarely take time off compared to most. As predicted, I spent most of the week worrying about work and even got 'called in' (I work remotely thankfully) to take care of one urgent item that nobody told me had a deadline of this week. Needless to say, I am unhappy with the work life balance at my company.
Went on a nighttime cruise on the local bike path through the woods with my buddy on his Segway scooters. Bbq'd with a friend on the fourth. Took today off and I'm about to go see that new spiderman movie. I'm pretty pumped about the movie, the first one was super legit.
Last weekend my wife was admitted to the hospital after what we thought was pneumonia turned out to be a bilateral pulmonary embolism. She was discharged three days ago and is now recovering at home. It's been a terrifying and exhausting week.
It was a quiet week for a change (very welcome), not much to do at work. My PC needed to be set up from scratch, as I either I managed to kill windows or got a virus (or both).
Today I went to the gym after a month again, finally. I had a cold, then there was a heatwave, then I had the next cold, and now I was finally fit again to do at least 40 min cardio. Not much, but better than nothing.
I also had to sent my e-scooter for repairs. Luckily I have two, so one is usually ready to drive (the other one was back from repairs just two weeks ago).
Favorite moment of the week was today's episode of working from home: Phone call with a coworker, she asks me some questions. In the middle of this I ask her to repeat and apologize for being distracted. My reason: I had my knee next to the table, and female canary (as always on freeflight while I work) decided the hair on my knees is perfect nesting material. So she sat on the table and tried to rip out the hair from my knee while I was supposed to work.
Had my younger brother’s family over for the weekend: it was a blast!
Also got set up to split wood to season for this winter. The wood is from two oaks we lost in the winter storms this year.
I'm halfway through the research for my thesis. At least I hope so xD I do hope it'll turn out okay, as I hadn't predicted that a microscope can take its toll on my eyes (after ~2 hours of using it Monday to Friday they kinda hurt).
Other that that, last weekend I've been on a Pride Parade with my girlfriend. 'twas the first time I took part in any parade and was pleasantly surprised how colourful and nice it was.
Good luck on the thesis! I have fond memories of mine mostly because of the healing power of time. I do frantically remember locking myself in my room to do the actual writing as the deadline got closer and closer.
Thanks!
So far, I'm concerned with the research. Then, when it's all done I'll start writing. I'm supposed to hand in the introduction by October 1st. But I do hope it's a fluid deadline.
The waterfalls are supposed to be spectacular this year, so we are making a point to visit Yosemite National Park tomorrow. We are driving to near the park tonight and getting up at the crack of early tomorrow to avoid traffic at the gate. If we have time we will stop at the redwood grove there also.
I’m currently selling my car at CarMax. I live in SF and never use it. Pretty stoked to be car free and not have to worry about it. Also, CarMax is always a pleasant experience so it’s a good time.
I’m going to be saving so much money I wish I’ve done it sooner. Something like this per month
$380 (parking spot 🥲) $270 (car payment $80 (insurance) $30 (registration divided per month) = $760!
I’ll have to pay for Ubers/Zipcars occasionally but it’ll never be close to $760 in a month.
Woohoo!!
Going over to Australia for the first time ever, despite having lived next door for nearly 8 years. Spending some time on a station way out in the middle of nowhere. Very excited!
Visiting Anchorage for the first time. Any recommendations?
I'm in Japan! I may or may not have had 4 bowls of ramen in the 4 days I've been here but honestly that was kinda expected. The sights are beautiful, the food is amazing, it's been so long since I've been in Asia and I really missed it so much.
If only it wasn't so humid out....
My toddler Son has been waking up at 4am every day this week, for no discernable reason. Had plans of going out for breakfast with him, then checking out a music/crafts festival in town, but instead spent the day with him squealing at me and trying to get him to sleep. Fun times.
