Well, fuck. He told us it was coming, but I was hoping he would at least get the full 18 months the doctors told him he might get. RIP, @DanBC. Your staunch and vocal support for LGBT+ rights,...

Your staunch and vocal support for LGBT+ rights, transgender rights in healthcare, advocacy for mental health, and consistent debunking of right-wing misinformation regarding trans people were sorely needed on the internet, and you will be sorely missed. You held a special place in my heart for all your efforts in that regard. :(
Rest in peace, Dan. I appreciated your contributions and presence here. You were someone with deep knowledge and a clarity of conviction that I admire. Your trans advocacy in particular was sharp,...

Aw, man. I didn't know anything about him other than the interesting and congenial interactions we'd had here and over at Hacker News, but he seemed like a stand-up fellow. RIP. :(

Sad to hear about his passing. He had such great insights on such a broad variety of topics - music, politics, health... - and always added to topics in positive, open, and thought provoking ways....

Shit, I was just thinking about him a couple of weeks ago and went digging around his post history. I saw he stopped posting regularly and I hoped he was just livin it up as much as possible. I'm not gonna act like I know him at all, but reading his posts and comments over the years made me feel like I had a good idea of the kind of person he was - thoughtful, kind, passionate. He was one of the regular posters that really made this place feel like a community, always talking to someone in the comments rather than at someone. I really hope he was able to cook some nice meals and spend quality time with the people who mattered most in his life.
Horrible news, he was a great presence here and seemingly elsewhere on the net as well. While he did not keep it secret that he was sick, news like this is a very human reminder that behind every...
Horrible news, he was a great presence here and seemingly elsewhere on the net as well. While he did not keep it secret that he was sick, news like this is a very human reminder that behind every post is a person of flesh and blood and life. I didn’t know much about him outside of Tildes, but it is nice to see that he seems to have had an impact on many others as well. It is surely a testament that many who never met him will nonetheless remember him fondly. May he rest in peace!
I don't think I interacted with him much but he was definitely important enough here that I feel the need to say something. He will be missed, for sure, and I hope he found peace, because cancer...

His words remain, and I encourage those not familiar with him to read his posts. May his memory always remain alive.
Very sad and sobering news. My heart sank when I saw the post on HN, and I came here to confirm it was the Dan we all know. I'm not sure what to say that's not already been said. I strongly...

I'm not sure what to say that's not already been said. I strongly believe in the idea that we should leave a place better than we find it, and Dan did that and more. He stood by his ideals, and for the betterment of those around him.

He made a real impact, even to someone more recently arrived here. Rest in peace. May his memory be a blessing.
