Hey Tilderinos, what's your favorite cannabis strain?

I've been progressively getting more excited about cannabis over the past year or so; we had a chat about drugs a while back, I figured we could try one specifically about cannabis.

I've been really enjoying Durban Poison lately, I tend towards feeling compassionate and really loving and open to folks around me, though that depends somewhat on context. Jack Herer and derivatives have been nice as well, but they're more for tasks that need some focus like programming or writing.

I've been trying a couple indica/evening leaning strains lately, but I haven't found one that I've really loved (my ulterior motive for starting this thread).

We should probably start a ~talk.casual, but maybe all talk on tildes is somewhat causal, and that's cool too, Also, this is aspie special interest territory for me, so if y'all don't think about this as much, I can do strain recs if that'd be something that was nice for you. Though, I don't some (relatively) that much, so someone on the internet could probably do that better.

Also, yes, I know that COVID-19 falls under SARS; I already got the gentle warnings from my dad.

(edit: thanks whoever tagged nsfw.drugs! Also the cannabis tag makes more sense as well)

I'm not super familiar with any particular strains or their names, but I mostly look for high CBD, low THC stuff, since I smoke to relax and ease my anxiety these days, not to get totally blasted like I used to when I was younger. Looking at my stash, the joints I am currently smoking are Ace Valley CBD apparently... and I have been pretty happy with them. They give me a mild buzz and calm me down without making me so high I can't distinguish left from right anymore.

p.s. The reason for high CBD/low THC is because the few times I have tried 100% CBD stuff it hasn't done jack shit, but every time I smoke high THC strains it makes me way too high. High CBD but still some THC present seems to be my Goldylocks chill zone. ;)

I do hope it gets decriminalised and/or legalised in the UK sometime soon (unlikely given the current government, I admit). I'm stuck with buying from dealers who don't seem to know or care what strains they're selling. Most of the research done (as well as just my own experience) suggests that most "street" cannabis is high in THC, because that's what people are looking for (or at least what dealers assume people look for).

Yeah, that same issue is why I stopped smoking regularly for so long. No dealers I knew were selling mellow/chillout weed, it was all "smack-you-in-the-face" super high THC stuff that would lay you out with just a few puffs, because if it didn't fuck people up they would get accused of selling weak "ditch weed" and business would drop off as a result.

I am so happy it got legalized here in Canada, since now I can order it directly from my Province's official cannabis store website and it gets delivered straight to my front door, so I don't have to deal with sketchy dealers anymore... especially since by doing that I was always tempted to get back into the harder stuff, which they all also sold. There is also way more variety available now, and everything on the official store is super well labeled, with THC + CBD %s and all the terpenes in the strain listed and able to be filtered/sorted by.... so now I can experiment and find just the right mix for me. The only downside is that it's quite a bit more expensive than what local dealers charge... but you get what you pay for, and I can afford it, so I don't mind the prices too much TBH.

I've often been tempted to try to buy on the dark web, but that comes with a whole host of problems too, not least of which is (as you describe) the temptation to get into harder stuff.
Honestly I think my ideal situation is something similar to yours: being able to sort through a variety of options to find the right strain for me, and then go for that. Even better would be the ability to buy individual spliffs pre-made. I don't mind rolling, but I would be able to control my intake so much better if I didn't have an entire 4g baggy burning a hole in my self-control. If the trade-off for both of those benefits is paying more, I think that makes it worth it.

That's what I buy and they're great. You would think with all the weed I have smoked in my life, I would be a master roller by now... but I am surprisingly terrible at it. It probably doesn't help I have primarily been a bong/pipe smoker most of my life though, so I never really developed the skill for rolling.

I have very little tolerance, but I'm trying to build it up just in case.

I've had the same experience with 100% CBD stuff. I was doing capsules for a time, but I don't think the levels our gov sells them at is high enough to do anything... but who knows.

Yeah, I tried a 1:1 oral spray when the OCS first opened but I was not a fan. I'm an ex cig-smoker so much prefer just smoking up to spraying foul tasting liquid into my mouth and then having to swish that shit around in there for a bit. I'm not much of an edible fan either TBH, since I dislike being high for extended periods of time. Smoking Js gives me much more control over things, it's what I'm used to (I rarely ever cough), and I actually enjoy the experience anyways, so that's what I will likely stick with for the foreseeable future.

The Foray chocolate edibles are amazing — and I’d love to get some of that chocolate without anything else in it. I emailed them, but I don’t anticipate a response any time soon.

I really liked the 10mg diesel prerolls. For me, that’s the perfect amount — but there are probably a bunch of variables I am unaware of.

Magic Bud is my favorite strain so far for creativity. It has the cerebral component that gets your imagination going without the jitters or paranoia, and the high transitions to a nice relaxing indica body buzz after an hour or so before fading away completely with no after effects. I also enjoy Orange Kush for the same kind of high, though it's more of a body buzz and it lingers longer.

I'm not that picky, though. Living in rural NY it's difficult to get anything out here with any certainty of pedigree or strength unless you order seeds and grow your own. Plenty of dealers still slinging dirt weed, whatever tough plants that can handle outdoor grows in bulk. Tastes like crap, barely gets you high, and most of them leave you with a head full of fog which is not why I smoke. :P

I only know one dealer that has a stock of strains on hand, last legit strains got from him were Sour Diesel and Bleu Cheese. They were serviceable, much better than the local dirt weed.

Plus that energetic high is great, it's my go-to for things like deep house cleaning where it just helps you get engrossed in the task at hand. It also doesn't seem to have the overly-racy feel that some other sativas have had in my experience (Bruce Banner and Blue Dream especially, both of those are just too speedy and leave me feeling jittery and paranoid).

I'm blown away reading stuff like this; Blue Dream felt much calmer for me, but everything's different for everyone, which makes me realize, once again, how far research is behind on all of this.

I'm in the same camp as /u/cfabbro - current high-THC strains selected for the "high" mostly make me some combination of hungry, headachy, irritable, zombied-out, or send me straight to sleep. I'm mainly using cannabis for inflammatory arthritis relief, to manage pain and minimize NSAID dosage and side effects.

I'm another former smoker, and every vaped high-THC strain or oil hurts like I've just inhaled acid, even though I haven't had a cigarette in many years. This was a rather scary phenomenon when the contaminated vape oils were going around the US last year, even though I was getting my supply from a medical marijuana provider.

My fave so far is a strain called Pure Essential (this may be a cognate for Pure Love), which I can find no specific information about online. It's been great for sleeping through arthritis pain, and provides some inflammation relief. I'm still not clear-headed enough to function normally on it for daytime use, though. Aside from being told that Pure Essential is a 2:1 CBD/THC hybrid strain, I don't have analytical information.

Lemon Tart is another fave. It's euphoric, energetic, relatively non-foggy, and terrific for depression and pain relief. Unfortunately, it's got a mighty appetite increase to contend with - I don't need to be energetically consuming every carbohydrate in the house. Again, there's no reliable strain or analytical information I can provide, besides that it's a hybrid.

It's still the Wild West as to consistency of strains and nomenclature. Since Michigan has had medical marijuana legalization for a while, we may have locally produced crosses that aren't available or widely known elsewhere.

The state regulations are decent now about requiring labeling for THC/CBD content (and testing for pesticides, other toxins, etc.), but other cannabinoids and terpenes aren't individually identified. Vape oils here are particularly problematic, as regardless of the listed strain derivation, nearly everything but THC seems to have been removed. I've taken to pre-dosing with 20 mg CBD extract before I try any new strain or product, just to manage some of the off-track effects.

Lately, I've been using Mary's Medicinals' 10 mg 1:1 THC/CBD transdermal patches. I can cut them to size to manage the dosage, and get good pain relief and complete functionality all day with a half. If there are medicinal terpene benefits, I'm not receiving them, but this seems like a very satisfactory and reliable compromise.

Footnote: For those who aren't getting much from straight CBD, the effects are subtle. I had some decrease in inflammation, and a very noticeable decrease in social anxiety with 20 mg/day. Product quality is an issue - many "CBD" products are actually low-THC hemp whole-plant extractions, and the listed milligram concentration is cannabinoids, not CBD alone. Bluebird Botanicals sells both pure CBD (you can actually get crystallized pure CBD at $25/gram from them) and hemp extracts as reasonably priced as anywhere, and they farm their own hemp.

Second footnote: I'd appreciate it if anyone can provide a favorite comprehensive strain database website that's properly searchable (including THC/CBD concentration), and not a horrifying, outdated mess like this, or managed by vendors.

Yeah, I'm seeing this in Washington too -- there's lots of producers that are making strains that I can find lineages for and have some idea what I'll be feeling, and a whole bunch that are making things with propritary/hidden genetics, which makes me feel weird? There's a weird open-source/closed-source vibe to me that I'm not a huge fan of.

The 100% CBD stuff I have had was all concentrates and edibles that were lab tested and approved for sale by my Provincial government, who has been taking this legalization effort remarkably seriously and has pretty stringent requirements, so I don't think that was the issue. I just don't seem to notice any effects of pure CBD, even regarding my anxiety level, without at least some THC to go along with it.

As @soctar described, most edibles have that weird THC-only high from pure THC without any of the accompanying cannabinoids or terpenes. It's what made the pharma-refined THC drug Dronabinol so poorly accepted even among cancer patients. Pure THC products just make me non-functional, irritable, body-heavy, sleepy, and/or nauseated.

I've had fantastic, joyful highs from homemade weed edibles, but they don't have the greater predictability of a high precisely formulated in milligrams of THC.
