For context, I'm a 15 years old male that lives in San Diego, California.

    Anxiety

I have anxiety issues. It's probably GAD. Due to parental expectations to get good grades, school is stressful, which worsens things. I also have a class where only a few tests and essays are worth a large proportion of the grade and are graded harshly, which makes me stress about those assignments. I also have an activity which I enjoy, but is also another source of stress.

    Social Situation

I have had nobody I would consider a friend in the last 3 years. I guess I had distant friends, but we never talked except in whichever class we shared. Going to high school (instead of middle school) and the pandemic cut off those too. Family (including a similar aged sibling) seem to be a mostly fine substitute though. While I am bothered by it, I appear to be okay compared to what my school expects. My guess to why—and also why I don't have any friends—is that I'm introverted and have high functioning autism (or something of that nature)*. I also don't feel that I have similar interests (programming, history, science, politics) to my peers. The pandemic didn't worsen this, but it did prevent any chance of me meeting new people, older teenagers especially, at high school.

    * Side note about me having autism

I'm confused about this. I got a 68 on this test, which is slightly above the threshold for having a high likelihood of having Autism. Here is a table of my results compared to others:

Total score Language Social relatedness Sensory/motor Circumscribed interests
Test taken by you on 1 January 202168.00.046.015.07.0

    Threshold values for suspected ASD65.04.031.016.015.0
The average score for males with ASD (4629 people took this test)149.011.972.036.228.9
The average score for females with ASD (6008 people took this test)161.612.974.642.831.3
The average score for males with suspected ASD (46355 people took this test)141.011.170.632.227.0
The average score for females with suspected ASD (99058 people took this test)143.311.067.337.427.7
The average score for male neurotypicals (14952 people took this test)83.06.442.918.215.5
The average score for female neurotypicals (34089 people took this test)86.16.341.022.716.1

There, I exceed the threshold for the "Social relatedness" category, nearly meet it for the "Sensory/motor" category, and don't meet the other categories at all. This seems somewhat odd for high level autism, but I don't know what else I would have. My elementary school did diagnose me with it, but I don't have any more information from them on it.

There are other subreddits that I would like to have their content be on Tildes (e.g /r/rust, /r/ProgrammingLanguages), though some of the may be better suited for tags.

Also- this isn't exactly a subreddit I would want to bring over, but possibly certain content in /r/anime? ~anime is currently very sparse, and while most of the content on /r/anime isn't suitable for Tildes, there is some (in my opinion) high quality content there (e.g Watch This! posts).

Tonikaku Kawaii (TONIKAWA: Over the Moon For You) episode 1

    MAL
I liked the first episode. I'm a sucker for romance anime, but I dislike how often the relationships don't get developed (usually with the anime ending after the confession). The premise of this show solves that issue. The art is also great.

I feel like Nasa is misinterpreting his marriage. They touched on this when Nasa was surprised on how easy it is to get married, but I feel like he's interpreting this as they're a full blown married couple. Practically, they've only just gotten into a relationship. I don't Tsukasa's perspective on this though, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Also, why the heck did Tsukasa want to get married? There are many reasons to not propose to a 15 year old you just met, and then years later walk into his apartment to get married. I feel like she's from another world and needs to get married because magic or whatever. This may also tie in to how she was able to find his apartment.

Speaking of that, why did Nasa say yes? I know she is extremely cute, but he doesn't know her. He even gave up his goals to try to meet her again. This probably because of the genre, but why?

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou (Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou) episode 1

    MAL
I like this. I prefer its art style over the original's. Apparently a plot point was revealed in the second episode instead being revealed later like it was in the original, so I'll hold off on watching this until there is more information if this is a remake or something else.

This is off topic, but as a teacher do you know anything people not currently involved with US K-12 education could do to help the issues in it? I'm a high school student in California, and I dislike my local school system and the state of US K-12 education in general. GT education is a particular issue for me, but given the other major issues in education I would be willing to help with anything.

Disclaimer This is not for me as a student. My interests mainly lie in K-8 as they have less of a ability to change their situation, and I'm already in a reasonable situation personally.

I'm half white half Chinese who looks Chinese living in Southern California. As for how it has affected me, not much?

My area is 27% Asian, so I've never been much of a minority here. Online, I've seen Asian American's called "Schrodinger's minority", which nicely sums up my status. On one hand, I'm a POC. On the other hand, I feel that I'm not really considered one. I do admit that I haven't faced many of the issues usually faced by minorities though. I also generally meet the model minority stereotype, for what it matters. For the record, I'm a high school student, so I haven't been exposed to a lot of things.

Also, Asians are a very broad category, so I feel like I identify with East and South East Asians more than I identify with South Asians.

I pirate nearly all my media. By virtue of being a student, I don't have much money so I pirate most things. For the streaming services I do have access to, I pirate shows to have a downloaded copy. I've recently backed a successful kickstarter campaign, so that is what I would consider my limit for pirating.

Ethically, my limit would be what I wouldn't be able to access without paying absurd prices. However, if I didn't pirate things I wouldn't view them anyways so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I've been watching Parasyte (finished ep. 9). I personally like it.

Spoilers for episode 9 and before

It's interesting to see how to protagonist's personality changes. Even with the issues of Migi partially merging with him, I can't help but feel that part of it is caused by what he has been forced to go through. Having to kill something that is physically human and having something that looks like your mother attempt to kill you probably does harm to the psyche.

Also, with the incident of him throwing the dog's body in the trash, I have to agree with him? I can see why it might be considered disrespectful to throw the body away, but it's dead anyways. He wasn't emotionally attached to the dog either. I might have a different opinion if I was there though.

In context, pretty okay. The pandemic hasn't affected all that much in the mental health department. It did move around sources of stress, but not much else. The main issue is my lack of close relationships (friends?) excluding family, but that has been an issue for a couple years now so no real changes.

I haven't read design patterns, so I only have a passing exposure to them. I've used a singleton once, to provide the representation of null in the host language when implementing an interpreter. In the language I'm implementing (child language?) the null value is a singleton, so I made the value a singleton in the host language.

This is an anecdotal hot take, but for American middle school, how much more content were they going to cover?
Based on my experience in it, large amounts of content were repeated year from year. I feel that for some of the students, they could easily survive with online school* for the remainder of the year with few negative consequences. This might be the same for elementary school too, but I don't remember enough to comment on it.

Also, for anybody with experience with transitioning to online school, how long did it take after the shutdown to start online learning and what challenges were faced?
This is partially addressed in the article, but from a bystanders point of view I felt like the time it was taking to transition — three weeks in the case of my local district — was somewhat long and in the case of my local district, felt haphazard.

For context, I'm gen z and live in Southern California.

    Footnote

    * This is primarily addressing students with access to online school. I don't know much about the situations of people in districts without the option.
