However, when he is wrongfully accused of murdering someone close to him, Satoru is sent back to the past once again, but this time to 1988, 18 years in the past. What have you been watching and reading this month? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
My most recent favorite is "Goodbye, Eri". The story is about a high school boy being asked by his mother to film her final moments before death, which led to him meeting the girl in the title and... things happen (saying more would be spoiler lol).
What's most striking about this manga is the consistent paneling, making it looks like you're browsing through film strip. It also gives the story a sense of urgency as if the panels are the ticking of a clock. The plot has many twists and turns and 4th wall breaking, reading it feels as if you're watching an indie movie.
I don't come across oneshots very often and only knew about this one from r/manga. So I'm looking for more!
One Piece is known for extreme foreshadowing and grandiose world building, which allows for some interesting fan theories. So, let's see what you've got :)
I'll start.
I've always suspected that Imu was from the Void Century or earlier, due to them having history or knowledge of the giant straw hat frozen in impel down, and with the recent chapter it's looking moreso indicated.
My thoughts about how and why he became immortal, are because of the Op Op fruit, but the reasoning I think is because it was necessary to beat Joy Boy the first time around.
Joy Boy, or at least Luffy's manifestation of it, seems to sap vitality whenever it's used. My suspicion is that the Op Op fruit is necessary in order to achieve a full form Joy Boy, or else Joy Boy will just die of old age. So, Imu used it in order to steal that opportunity from Joy Boy in the past.
So, if I had to guess, Law will sacrifice himself for Luffy toward the end of the show to allow Luffy to permanently enter the Joy Boy state and bring eternal freedom to everyone!
I’ve really been enjoying Vinland Saga so I’m curious what everyone else thinks about this season.
Today marks the release of the final chapter of Mashle: Magic and Muscles by Hajime Komoto. After three years, 162 chapters, and an official anime release, it's finally time to say farewell to our muscular, magicless, creampuff loving bowl cut.
Many of us have grown used to weekly updates on the world that seems like a farcical mix of One Punch Man / Harry Potter and will definitely feel its absence on Sundays.
I wanted to create this thread due to the popularity of the series (more than 5 million units in circulation!) and to spark more manga discussion in the community overall. This is the largest series to end in a long while, so it deserves a bit of a sendoff.
feel free to share what shows you've been watching and how you feel about them! I'll share my own thoughts in response (as I don't want to center it on my own opinions)
So let's be real, a lot of dubs don't live up to the original. Stuff gets lost in translation, the actors aren't as good, for some reason they choose a guy who sounds like he's 10 to voice the teenage protagonist (coughanothercough). A lot of people prefer subs for that reason.
But sometimes, sometimes the dubs throw out the original script and go all-in on the hamminess for gag dubs, and by god they can be amazing.
The golden example: the Ghost Stories dub. They got a generic ghost hunting anime that they knew wouldn't sell that well in western markets, and thus gave the English distributors free reign on changing the script. Every episode is like an Abridged series, and so politically incorrect but so amazing for it. The voice actors are very obviously having a blast with all the ad-libbing going on, you can see them developing the characters themselves and loving it.
So what other amazing gag and parody dubs do you guys know of?
What are your thoughts on Naruto as a series? Anything specific you want to highlight (plots, characfers, themes, arcs...). Thoughts on manga, anime, movies, novel... all welcome.
Noticed that we didn't have a topic for what people's favorite animes are. So I created one! Leave a comment down below with what animes you really enjoy, what you like about them, who you'd recommend them to, what you think about other people favorites, etc. Be sure to tag any spoilers in a details tag.
I know that it's mostly gacha games, but from my experience, they are usually cash grabs. Not to mention the amount of gacha IP collabs. So I'm curious if anybody knows game adaptations that are actually decent? It doesn't need to be on mobile- just any adaptation in general.
If you have no recommendation, you can just state your opinion on the state of game adaptations! Do you like seeing them? I'd love to read it.
It could be a fun way to get some more interaction going in this group instead of just the "what have you been watching/reading this past month?" posts. We could start with a short, 12 episode show just to see how it goes. If it goes well, maybe we could do it again with a longer show.
Since posts don't die from old age on tildes, we could keep it contained to one post. I believe we could just post a top-level comment each week with something like "Week 1 - Episodes 1-3", then keep all the discussion for that week's episodes as replies. Users could visit the post whenever, collapse all replies, and then only open up the episode discussions they want to participate in to avoid any spoilers.
This would prevent multiple posts cluttering up the front page for everyone, but would still be easy to navigate. It would take some self-policing to make sure that nobody else posts a top-level reply, but I think it could work.
What does everyone think? And any suggestions for a show? I'm thinking something like Erased might be good since it has a fairly broad appeal.
Edit: Assuming we do a 12 episode show to kick things off, what day of the week would everyone want me to post episode discussions? And how many episodes per post? We could do something like 3 episodes every Friday, or we could do 1-2 episodes say every Wednesday and Sunday if we don't want to wait a full week between discussions.
Edit 2: Sounds like we're gonna go-ahead with Erased! I'll put together a schedule and create the post later today with details.
I’d really appreciate suggestions for any action-packed anime series you might be able to share.
I “play” Zwift indoors for exercise when I don’t have time to ride my bicycle outside. While Zwift is a huge improvement over nothing, I still find myself watching the clock more than the screen. To help keep my mind busy and pass the time, I’ve been watching anime while riding indoors for the last several years. The more intense the anime, the better!
I think the early Attack on Titan seasons are the most emblematic of what I’m looking for, though I’ve been enraptured by other less likely shows, such as Psycho-Pass and Dr. Stone.
Chainsaw Man, Blue Lock, Shield Hero, Sword Art Online, Parasyte , the first season of Vinland Saga, Shokugeki, and many others have helped me get through countless hours of riding in the past, and I could really use a few new series going forward.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: cleaned up some phrasing
Edit 2: It's really hard to come up with an exhaustive list, but as folks jog my memory (or when my own addled brain decides to be useful) I'll add other series I've seen so far as well.

Named for Reiwa, Japan's current calendar era which began in 2019.
This came completely out of left field for me. I was going down the Internet nostalgia rabbit hole, likely inspired by the ~talk topic. The path eventually led me to Di Gi Charat, the anime series from 1999.
The original anime still holds up today. The episodes—only 4 minutes each, including the theme song—are highly bingeable. They're on YouTube. So quirky and funny. It's about these two small weird alien catgirls landing in Akihabara, Tokyo's anime central, and working part-time at an anime store called Gamers. Incidentally, Gamers is a real store, and these characters are Gamers' mascots.
Reiwa no Di Gi Charat has fansubs which can be found on unofficial sources. 4-minute episodes. Theme song performed by Masami Okui like the original. The art is really polished. It's amazing they brought back the original voice cast for this. I'm floored.
(Listening to Di Gi Charat soundtracks on Spotify as I write this!)
