Tip Top Shop is open for all your tipped arrow needs. Next to the chessboard in town. π
Love the shop! I made a small improvement for ease of use, I took each of the arrows out of the item frames and named them with an anvil so you can see the names when you hover on them. :D
Oh nice, that does improve things. Thanks!
Do you have exploding arrows?
Exploding arrows can only be made using command blocks from what I've seen online. Unless there is a different type you were thinking of perhaps?
Thanks @teaearlgraycold and @Positive for helping out with my picture of Jasper! Positive and I took a break while Tea went to grab some more netherack!
I had no idea you screenshotted that! lol :)
Alright everybody, the "Head Shop" is now complete and can be found in town next to the wool farm at 825, -105. The idea with this shop is you must make a donation of approximately equal value to take a head from inventory. Donations of unwanted heads are appreciated! And there is also a bounty board for people to post requests for particular heads they want if they aren't already available. Details can be found in the book at the front desk next to the vendor. There is also a section in the book where you can direct others to find any creations you might make with the heads.
I love the look of the varied floor and wall materials using StayTrue and connected textures!
Thanks for setting up this shop. I'm tempted to start some headhunting next time I'm on.
Oh wow, those mods are beautiful.
It's a combination of the Stay True texture pack and the mod Continuity
@Noox don't look.
I don't like seeing an empty thread, but I don't have much new to add other than recap what I've been working on lately...
I'm a bit more than halfway done with my picture of Jasper, and I started with the more difficult half, so things should be moving along nicely now.
I added shops with vendors to the dock area in town, and I also built an ice cream parlor south of the community center.
I also found out that with the new player heads, you can swap your skin, and the heads you collect will keep their texture when you change your skin back. @creesch helped me collect some custom heads to make a sign for an upcoming "head shop."
Lastly, I've almost finished adding a birdwatching clubhouse to the entrance of the nature reserve north of my house.
Does anyone know how the head thing works BTW? I find it fascinating that it can store essentially a snapshot in time of a skin. I've always wondered what kind of infrastructure is behind the online skin db, because that's one of the weak points if Microsoft should choose to abandon Minecraft. But I'm assuming that VanillaTweaks is doing something different as they don't exactly have budget for a server that stores an ever growing library of heads. Probably some storage local to the game world (maybe like how maps do it?) but I am just guessing.
The texture's url is stored as NBT in the head block/item. The format is documented on the wiki: https://minecraft.wiki/w/Player_Head#Item_data
It used to be a long time ago that only the player's id was stored, so the head would change if the player changed their skin. Which led to a weird thing where specific user ids were set aside specifically for custom heads. But now each skin has a unique url and the heads store that url.
VanillaTweaks isn't doing anything "different" in that regard, but I'm not really sure what you mean by that? I seem to recall a while back where the minecraft devs fixed a security issue having to do with player heads with arbitrary urls in them, and made it so that all skins have to come from the official skin server. So VanillaTweaks couldn't use a custom server even if they wanted to (well I guess they could with a mod, but you get what I mean).
This is great info, thanks! I do remember there being specific user ids set aside for heads, so it's great to understand why that was the case.
As an aside: Man, the internet is awesome. So cool that I can just pose a question "out loud" and someone with the knowledge can just "be in earshot" and reply. Now I no longer have to wonder. :)
Aside to the aside: @DMBuce I checked your Github and saw that you've created an overwhelming amount of datapacks and such for Minecraft. I plan to look through them all, but was wondering if you had any favorites, or maybe packs that you might recommend? I'm always on the lookout for neat datapacks.
Maybe we should get some of those data packs on the server??
Here are a few I found interesting:
Acclimated
Declutter Cutting
Wood Cutting
Heirlooms
Speedy Paths
Trees
Oh that would be neat as I have been actually working on expanding the road network and connecting a few things.
It's hard to pick favorites, I love them all lol. I guess the ones I rely on most are the ones that make inventory management easier:
How quickly do you get around to updating datapacks? My main hesitation around adding more is they complicate updates to the newest MC version.
If I'm actively playing minecraft I'll usually get an update out within a day or two, otherwise it might be more like a week, maybe two if I'm really busy?
I definitely understand your hesitation, but just out of curiosity, what kind of issues have you run into? Just wondering because one of the main attractions of datapacks for me is that they shouldn't ever lock your world out of updates like mods with custom blocks and items often do. Although I guess I could see bad things happening with certain experimental features like custom worldgen or custom dimensions. I know the game refuses to load worlds with custom biomes that have gone missing, for example. No clue what happens if a player joining the world is supposed to spawn in a dimension that doesn't exist.
I did have an issue with the armor stand control books after the minor update from 1.20.2 to 1.20.4. This caused all existing control books to have their NBT data wiped.
Itβs just another thing to worry about.
FWIW, I have a datapack running on my 1.20.4 server that is using pack_format 5, which dates back to 1.16.1! It obviously depends on the contents of the pack, but they tend to be a lot more forgiving through updates than mods or plugins. Better safe than sorry though.
Another specific question I had after reading the minecraft wiki post you linked:
Do you know if a new URL is created every time I change my skin, or is the URL the same, with the timestamp being used to retrieve skins of the past for a given player?
If the new skin is different then the url will be different I'm pretty sure. But if you mean changing your skin to a new one then back to the original, I'm not sure if the url changes back to the old one or gets a new one.
If you wanted to test it you could create a custom head with your username as the SkullOwner, change your skin, change it back, then create another head. If the two heads stack then the url is for sure the same, but if not then you'd have to inspect the NBT data of each head to see what changed. My command syntax is rusty but I think it's something like
/data get entity @s SelectedItem
to get the nbt of the item in your hand. Then you'd need to base64 decode the Value tag if they're different to see what changed (why Mojang decided to base64 encode that info, I have no idea). On linux the command for that isecho 'mybase64string' | base64 -d
.My picture of Jasper is finally done! He is on display in the basement of my house. I also snuck into @Evie's museum and hung it there as well. :D
I'm thinking about opening up a new "shop" near town. Does anyone know if the plot at 840,-98 is occupied? Or is there another place decently close to town that's free? This would be strictly above ground, so no worries if the underground space is occupied.
Looks free to me. Not even anything below ground.
There has been a murder! @teaearlgraycold
Events are unfolding!
I didn't do anything!
Mr. Tea "Earl Gray" Cold, this court has been called into session so that a jury of your peers may decide whether you are guilty of the crime Murder in the 1st Degree. The victim is a poor innocent young sheep owned by the esteemed and highly respected, and frankly quite handsome, Mr. GravySleeve. Now Mr. GravySleeve alleges that he found you at the scene of the crime holding the severed foot of the victim and he has provided material evidence proving as much in the form of photographs. Do you have any defense at all for your actions?
Emergency building project, we must construct a courthouse at once in light of this heinous crime.
Oh, man! If @Noox saw that...
What the hell!!! A girl can't get even get obsessively sucked into fallout 4 for a month without murder suddenly running rampant?!?! For shame Tea, for shame...
Wait until you hear about the head collections... O.O
I see quite a few builds! How long has this world been up for?
Since late July 2023. I started it because I was quitting my job and wanted a hobby to occupy my time!
So I've been thinking about this idea of creating a courthouse , and I started looking around for some inspiration. I found a build that I like, and can modify/tweak to my taste.
The problem is, it's massive. I would like to locate it decently close to TildeTown, but I'm going to need something like a 84x70 area at least to pull it off.
Anyone have any suggestions?
BTW, here are some screenshots of what I have in mind, in case anyone wants to vote yes/no on even starting this build in the first place.
Front from the ground
Aerial - You can see how it compares to Tip Top Shop in footprint.
There's some space around here. We could also clear out some of the abandoned unfinished builds in the area. The stone brick hotel or the spleef arena could be removed and then there should be enough space south of the trading hall.
I think @Durinthal was working on the arena. Not sure who was working on the hotel.
We could hold a hearing once the courthouse is built.
Nice, I'll let this simmer and see what everyone thinks.
BTW, if this does get built, there are offices in the upper floor that could serve as a permitting and land dispute office (joking, but I do find the idea of fake red tape funny)
Edit: I've also been wanting to repurpose a crossbow-less pillager as a surly worker... seems like the permitting office might be a great fit π
Yeah, at this point I don't think I'll get around to doing more with the arena so feel free to reuse the land for something else. I've been meaning to get back and at least do some more rail cleanup but keep having other distractions pop up.
I believe the hotel was @priw8's idea going by this older comment.
Could just clear them both out then and have a little government district.
I might also be able to just locate across the street. I can't exactly make out from the map what's there but look like just cherry trees?
Well I just deleted both structures so you can use that land if you'd like.
Ok then!
IMO it would make sense to locate the courthouse in a semi-remote area. That way a defendant could be instantly dropped into a bottomless pit if found guilty. There might come a need for jail cells in the vicinity also.
There are holding cells in the courthouse building as designed! π§
No bottomless pits are yet planned.
I really like the design! I'm pretty sure I have some bricks and quartz bricks to help get you started if you want. It'll be a lot of fun for me to set up armor stand people too once it's complete.
Also, have you noticed yet that I used your head to make an armor stand version of you up on the balcony at your house? :P
I did notice! I love my new roomie. :)
And yeah, every little bit helps with the build, thanks! It's going to be a lot of collecting so I'm glad we have farms (and villagers) for almost everything.
Hey all! I added a new map view that shows the nether roof.
Awesome idea. I had no idea there was some sort of oasis area up there.
In the interest of sharing, here is the dynmap world config I use for my home server. It uses a custom isometric cave perspective to allow for a 3D nether view. I'm interested in swapping my own flat nether view for the roof view though as that seems more useful.
A couple other highlights of the above world config:
Update: I just checked that oasis area, and found that it leads to @GravySleeve's portal/house. Curiosity got the better of me and I jumped in the hole. Thankfully I was wearing my good boots and only lost most of my hearts. :D
Yeah he just built that. Do you have screenshots of the maps the configuration produces?
Sure!
End 2D/3D
Nether 3D Caves
Maybe useful overworld 3D caves
Always day drone view
Day 3D / Night 3D
A more lit up area: Day 3D/Night 3D
You can see the difference in the lower res in these. Def not as pretty when zoomed in, but the file sizes are a lot more manageable for me anyway.
Looks good! We're already at 80% disk use right now so I'll keep things where they are.
Fair enough :)
Out of curiosity, how did you show the nether roof? Was it a change to the min/max height in the perspective definition?
I added this entry to
perspectives.txt
:And this to
worlds.txt
:Nice. Thanks for sharing.
Actually, looking at this, it would probably be easy to make an isometric map of the nether roof as well.
Heh, sorry 'bout the drop. There is a Warped Vine to break the fall but it's just the one block that's covered. I'm gonna figure out a way to make it better soon. Like Tea said, just "finished" recently.
Ha, no worries. It was kind of a funny moment. I jumped and only then thought: "Wait, what's at the bottom of this?" π
There's a good reason I never play hardcore....
Following Gravy's lead (empty threads also make me sad):
I built an automatic sea pickle vendor on the docks, and in the process revamped the community mine that was there. Just a warning that sea pickles take a lot of bone meal to make in a compact farm, so it's a good thing we're not hurting for bonemeal farms. Just don't be alarmed when you put in a stack of bonemeal and only get a handful of pickles. :\
And I built a ghast farm on the nether roof. It's easy to find... follow the white carpets! The rates aren't the best ATM, but it is expandable so I may add more layers if I get the inclination sometime. Anyway, now we should be able to make all the end crystals and regen potions we could want.
I saw that and it looks awesome! Couldn't help myself and also build a shaft going all the way to bedrock under the crane.
I saw it, and it's much appreciated! I've been using it to branch mine at diamond level. π
I started clearing the area for the new courthouse building. If anyone would like to assist with material gathering, I need the following bulk materials:
