To frame this in a broader discussion, it kind of feels like this nerd era of the internet is over, doesn't it? Considering so many pillars of that community that existed on YouTube are now dead.

I don't know if this is gonna make sense. But I don't think gaming is viewed as a nerdy thing anymore, and on top of that viewing yourself as a nerd isn't cool anymore either. That's all very 2010s. So RoosterTeeth and Machinima which were aimed at these hyper nerdy audiences couldn't keep up with the trend change.

It may be that I'm just the target audience for nostalgia bait, but I feel like today more than. In the 10 years, the he internet has devolved into corporate captured ad and social networks, content aggregators like Pinterest and Chat GPT, content mills like social etc.) And subscription based software and streaming services.
Gone are the days when the average user needed to understand how the plumbing of the internet worked. Social and homepages was local and required HTML knowledge to make a splash, Google felt as harmless and altruistic as Wikipedia, and multimedia over the web was just coming on to the scene.
I miss the possibility that came with the emergence era and I don't think that it's untrue to at that it was more involved, more authentic than what kids are exposed to now.

I've been a fan since RvB season 4 or 5. Still watch FH and RWBY and some of FaceJam too. So this company has been a big part of my life. I knew this day would come eventually, but it's still sad and shocking. I can't imagine what everyone at RT is feeling.
It's crazy that they're* also dropping the final season of RvB (written by Burnie) this year too. I hope Kerry and the team can find funding to finish RWBY. Of course I hope all the employees can find work. Regardless of what you think of their content, they all care about what they do
Seems to me RWBY has plenty of fans, you'd think someone would have to be an idiot not to jump on that. I wonder if they could crowdsource it? They could offer the Complete Blueray set once the...

I wonder if they could crowdsource it? They could offer the Complete Blueray set once the show is finished, along with lots of other bits of merch.

I would assume RWBY puts up enough numbers for WBD to keep producing it. It's in their hands now. So if it's not profitable, it's done.
That's what an article I read earlier today said (the verge maybe?). Apparently, they're looking for buyers for Red vs Blue, RWBY, and some other show I hadn't heard of.

It was the verge I'm pretty sure. Crunchyroll is the most likely candidate since they've already got RWBY on their site and have been working with RT for awhile now.

The first 5 or 6 seasons of RvB were so foundational to my middle school and high school entertainment. I never got much into the rest of their content, but this is sad to see nevertheless.

I used to be a huge Rooster Teeth fan, I loved the RT Podcast, Red VS. Blue, early LetsPlay, and so many other things. However, like a lot of people, my tastes changed and I moved on. I did however check in once a year to see what new content they had and I enjoyed a few things they made for a little while. Overall though, the vast majority of their content didn't click with me and I think other probably feel the same, if the view counts are anything to go by. So I can't say I'm really surprised this happened either.
I was also a fan in the early days, and I mostly agree with what you're saying, but I do wonder how much of it is our tastes changing and us moving on compared to their output changing and us...

I also tried checking out their new content from time to time, and it never clicked enough for me either. Some of it was okay, but not consistently enough for me to stick with it. Though when I went back to their old Red vs Blue early seasons, I still really enjoyed them. Some of that is surely nostalgia, but I don't think that's the whole story.
As they grew and became more corporate they lost some of the spark that made the early content so fun. And I think that early content still holds up.
Overall I think the truth is some combination of our tastes and their output changing.

I was also a fan of Rooster Teeth, with Red vs Blue being the very first thing I had watched from them, until what had happened to Ryan of Achievement Hunter, of Adam of FunHaus, the toxic workplace allegations and the allegations of Gavin and Geoff liked to do for "fun." It just became really fucking exhausting being a fan of theirs. And coupled with their stuff that they were producing were becoming stale, it was time for me to move on.
And apparently the current day AH barely ( and very rarely) breaks 50k views on their Let's Plays, so the writings was on the wall for them. And I am not that surprised to see RT shut down, if their view count is anything similar to AH.

If I remember right Warner is looking to sell the rights to RWBY and a few other Rooster Teeth IPs. So RWBY at the very least probably isn't done.
That's what an article I read earlier today said (the verge maybe?). Apparently, they're looking for buyers for Red vs Blue, RWBY, and some other show I hadn't heard of.
We should all pool our money together to buy RvB so it can finally die in peace

I always thought they could have been the next Disney. Sad to see, but not surprising considering the drop in quality over the last few years.
I'm curious what you mean by this statement haha
They did become like Disney. Greedy, overly corporate, bland, and boring.
Yea what the lol
It's a sad situation, and I hope all those who were laid off are able to find new jobs.
