What's your "hype song"?
Short of drugs, I find music to be one of the most effective ways of inducing an emotional state on demand. If you want to hype yourself up, get that adrenaline flowing, what's your go-to song?
For me, it's definitely DJ Mehdi - Signatune (Thomas Bangalter edit). Hard-hitting French House. It's repetitive and brutal, and not at all what I would choose for a cozy, relaxed listening experience. But god damn if it doesn't get the adrenaline flowing.
What's yours?
Eminem - Til I Collapse. Hit my PR of 365x5 deadlifts to that song
I have so many. I like to listen to music that represents how I want to feel rather than how I often do feel. It's turned into quite the mental hack over the years. I'll just leave you with one for now, one of the finest break-up songs I've ever heard. It's intense.
Generally, anything by this artist will pump you up and scrub the bad out of your thinkmeat. ;)
Edit: Have time now for a few more...
I just can't resist adding Nanowar of Steel - Valhalleluja. Our father Odin, who art in IKEA! Proof metal and gospel were born for each other and that metal can indeed make a kickass christmas song. ;)
I need to dig into more playlists later when I have the time.
When I first listened to DAMN. ...that segue from the intro track into DNA. got me really hyped, because I knew something was about to go down. And, boy, did it! DNA. is a hype track on its own, but the anticipation for new Kendrick stuff + that segue:
I knew he was gonna go off. And he did!
1Train by A$AP Rocky et. al is another good hype builder. Or any of those old-school tag-team rap tracks. The Flava In Ya Ear remix is another good example.
EDIT: Oh...gotta mention Clique, too. That's a definite hype builder.
"Beware" by Death Grips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qxa91EwFco
"I close my eyes and seize it /
I clench my fists and beat it /
I light my torch and burn it /
I am the beast I worship"
The first time I heard that it was like a "woah" moment for me, like, "that's how I want to live my life"
One of my favorite album openers of all time. Totally mesmerizing and darkly empowering.
Recently it's been:
I don't think any song can take me from 0 to 100 as fast as Bulls on Parade, that song explodes out the gate like nothing else.
Denzel Curry's cover for Triple J is 🔥🔥🔥
The first 25 seconds of Backseat Freestyle gets me every. single. time.
There are about 25 Rage Against the Machine songs that I could choose, but my personal favorite is Sleep Now in the Fire because of how great the music video is.
My immediate reaction to this earlier today was, "A single go-to song? There's way too much good music for that. I could probably come up with an album just from Wu-Tang!"
Sooo guess what I spent most of my evening doing?

"Takyon (Death Yon)"--Death Grips
"Song 27"--The Austerity Program
And just about anything off the first few Dillinger Escape Plan albums.
The high energy of Too Many Zooz's music gets me so hyped every time I listen to their stuff. Survival of the Flyest is one that I've been in to lately. E1M1 from Doom '93 is also a great one to hype me up.
Love me some Too Many Zooz, and Leo's solo stuff too!!! Their live and busking performances are where it's at for me though, because it really shows off their insane energy and Leo's awesome stage presence+dancing. Here are some of my favorites:
Leo's amazing performing at the BBC Proms
Leo + David, Union Square
Leo + David + Matt, Union Square
Leo + David + Matt + Adorable little girl dancing along
And if you like TMZ, you will prob enjoy Moon Hooch too. Their Jam In The Van performances are my fav:
Moon Hooch - Number 9
Moon Hooch - Number 2
Moon Hooch - Tubes
Their NPR Tiny Desk is pretty awesome too (2/3 of the same songs as above though)
A few more bands you may dig as well:
Drumadics - Times Square Station (David and Leo play with them occasionally)
Drumadics - 34th & 6th Street Station (ft. David & Leo again)
MEUTE - You & Me - Berlin, Görlitzer Park
MEUTE - Hey Hey - Rome, Piazza Trilussa
A lot of mine have been mentioned already, so here's a few I haven't seen yet:
Tokyo Police Club - Ready to Win
Electric Six - Randy's Hot Tonight - for when goofy motivation is called for
Caroline Rose - Feel the Way I Want - never expected this one to become a pump up jam for me like it did
Refused - New Noise
Say Anything - Do Better - because sardonic self deprecation can be motivating sometimes
Andrew WK - I Get Wet
Woodkid - Run Boy Run
Lots of video game music, but if I have to narrow it down to my hype song, it would have to be the bonus final battle with Mustache Girl Ex in A Hat In Time.
XI: Freedom dive (Techno, fast beats)
Uploaded by AlgorStorm83: Night of nights (Video game remix, fast beats)
Dimraim47: At the speed of light (Techno, the kind of song that gets playes on rhythm games a lot)
F-777: Ludicrous speed
F-777: Space battle (both of these are techno, although this one IMO is the one that hypes the most.)
DM Dokuro: Reality check through the skull (Semi rock, semi video game, Megalovania remix)
Nechael Nechabarren/Mister kaze: Painful retribution (The word "Last stand" comes to mind.)
Devin Martin: KILLBOT (Kind of reminds me of those songs that played on MLG montages.)
Dr: I keep holding on (The textbook MLG song or "AND MA HOPE WILL NEVER DIIIIIIIIIE")
A classic: Superman by Goldfinger.
I've got a lot I'll put on to get pumped. The ones I list are particularly effective for me.
Busdriver - Imaginary Places
Open Mike Eagle - Dark Comedy Late Show, this song starts out pretty chill but builds up, he's damn near shouting at the end, but it's a hell of a mood elevator.
Squarepusher - Planet Gear
Squarepusher - Dark Steering, another slow build, but by the end it grabs you by the head and drags you along.
AFX - VBS.Redlof.B, a bit of a low-key jam, but a lot of his Analord series just gets me amped, this is the most obvious one.
Noisia & Mayhem - Exodus This was actually my first run-in with modern DnB, opened an entire genre up to me. A lot of Noisia's stuff is stuff I'll put on to get hype, but Exodus is particularly special, vocal take or instrumental.
Phace - Blind Faith (Seizure warning on the video, it is all rapid jumps and cuts) I have to play this one absolutely loud in my headphones, and it always gives me the chills. The way the buildup leads into the drop, the space they leave before it hits, it's like riding a roller coaster to me, every time.
Hatebreed - In Ashes They Shall Reap
Top one would have to be MCR's Planetary (GO!) which has stuck with me from my more emo days.
Runners up:
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle.
Paramore - Misery Business
Against Me! - High Pressure Low and Rapid Decompression. Really, most of White Crosses.
For best results, you gotta sing along. Also, there's more specific moods than adrenaline, and Black Dresses' WATER and Damage Suppressor have a certain /drive/ to them. There's also the meme quality of say, Mr. Brightside, Running in The 90s/Deja Vu, and the Nightcore remix of Cartoon Heroes, or the adrenaline from nailing the words to One Week or We Didn't Start The Fire.
Not a band that I normally listen to, but it's my goto "hype" song.
Ludique – Learning The Ropes
A few of my top picks over the last 5~ years or so:
Muse - Hysteria
Set It Off - Why Worry
OVERWERK - Daybreak
Panic! At The Disco - Say Amen (Saturday Night)
