Trump designates street fentanyl as a WMD, escalating militarization of the drug war
I think it's pretty clear at this point where this is all going.
Not that anything said by Bondi or Trump should be believed, but if 258 million American lives were saved, she must mean that excess deaths under Biden was about 74% of the population each year. Or something.
Aside from war/attack stuff, this is a step in the destruction of words meaning things.
Can you explain? I don't follow closely enough to know where this is goin.
The implication I'm alluding to is a parallel between the events unfolding now with Venezuela, and the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Although there are many reasons/justifications for that, the primary one that was sold to the general public was that Saddam Hussien was developing WMDs that would make him a global threat instead of a regional one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationale_for_the_Iraq_War
I was too young at the time to really think critically about the Iraq situation, but the reasons that the current administration is giving for military actions and movements in the area around Venezuela are all transparently bullshit. Exactly why they're trying to drum up public support for doing something is unclear to me, but it sure as hell isn't fentanyl.
The only thing that makes sense to me is that they think a war would be good for shoring up support among their base, and this is their paper-thin justification for it. I know my state senators are in lock-step on the messaging when it comes to this, so I don't think it's just a "Trump is crazy/senile" thing. It's fucking worrying though.
Every right wing politician who feels insecure right now will back a war abroad, as the population will often fall for a "rally around the flag" effect. No matter that the people who say they love the troops just throwing away lives as a distraction from domestic issues, it'll happen anyway.
Public support for Iraq was a redirection of the anger and outrage over 9 11. I don't see a redirection of the drug war as likely to capture US hearts and minds in the same way. Sigh, time to bring back the No Blood for Oil chants.
Iraq was invaded by the USA under Bush on manufactured evidence that they possessed WMDs. In the same pattern, Trump is trying to gin up a justification to invade whatever South American country he thinks will distract people from his various failings. (Despite the fact that fent mostly isn't even coming from South America.)
Trump orders blockade of ‘sanctioned oil tankers’ into Venezuela, ramping up pressure on Maduro
Traditionally, a blockade is an act of war. From legalclarity.org:
At least 90% of what he posts on social media is absolute bullshit that can be safely ignored, but I wish the media would take the time to explain the small part with a grain of truth. Is this referring to the nationalisation of the oil industry?
White House adds plaques below Biden and Obama portraits, calling them ‘the worst President in American history’ and ‘divisive’ (The Independent)
I wish they wasted more time on supposed childish actions like this and less on actions that actively harm people.

Patriot Games, White House UFC fight: America 250 plans revealed – NBC4 Washington
THE PATRIOT GAMES
WHERE ONE MALE TEEN AND ONE FEMALE TEEN FROM EACH
DISTRICTSTATE AND TERRITORY....GO TO
THECAPITOLD.C.TO COMPETE IN THE PATRIOT GAMES
Irony is dead.
All while someone builds a giant ballroom and gilds the White House
Ew gross
And the female teen will be subjected to being checked for not a trans woman . Who knows what would actually satisfy them. I hope schools everywhere allow their kids to opt out. There'll be enough willing Maga kids they won't have to lotto or coerse young athletes I think
I also wanted to know - what kind of athletes? What's the competition?and I know it's wildly bullshitted but athletes don't just all play the same sport against each other
Dementia man said UFC, and said young so I would imagine actually not teens but legal age. The four day games, they'll do all the Aryan Games sports I guess. Actually making plans isn't something they do, the point is to say no sense and get reactions and grift so who knows.
He said "high school athlete" which would be a teenager whether 18 or 14. But he didn't say track and field or basketball or whatever and without such specifications how do you even have a competition. The whole thing is dumb.
The UFC fight is a separate thing.
The Hill: House GOP will not allow amendment vote to extend ObamaCare subsidies
I guess 14.2% is an insignificant portion of Americans.
I’d also think the benefit of the ACA marketplace isn’t that every American is on a subsidized plan at the same time, but that the ACA marketplace is a safety net that allows people to keep affordable coverage if they lose their job or don’t have an affordable option through their employer. I’d like to see numbers for how many unique individuals have used an ACA insurance plan at some point in their lives.

If you have any friends or family who were at all into Qanon or Pizzagate, send them this video and ask them about her expression at 30 seconds in; see if the people who care so much about child abuse can actually recognise it when they see it.
The DNC is scrapping its report on what went wrong in 2024 (gifted link)
I hope they learn from that lesson. I also hope to see Ken Klippenstein or someone get a hand on this report. I wonder if it had any mention of, oh I don't know, an issue that many people in the base were angry about. 2024 was a long time ago, but I have faint memories of protests going on across the country.

Dissident republican representatives joined democrats to force a January vote on the cost of Affordable Care Act health insurance
And those subsidies lapse at the end of the year, leaving some unknown amount of time in 2026 where people's health insurance will be wildly more expensive. Despite being just a few days later on the congressional calendar, it's far too late for the American people.

Trump is a sycophant to Putin.
Trump is enamored by any authoritarian with both power and money, and seems easily manipulated by those he admires, especially by Putin.
Trump is also highly transactional in nature.
It is hard to tell, did Trump sell America out for a few million, or did he sell America out for sweet nothing. Maybe time will tell.
Trump shifts NASA priority to Moon mission, not Mars (Le Monde)
I mean, the moon is more doable since we've, you know, done it before...? So this might actually be a good change since NASA knows what's needed and can argue more effectively for the necessary resources.
Or you know...
Trump: We are going to Mars by 2028!
Later: Urrrmmmm. Sir. That will cost rich people their yacht money.
Also Later: Elon: If we go to the moon, then I still get my yacht money!
