Who moved my cheese?
Prologue: Feeling cranky, trying to be civil.
I posted a link to an article, in the ~news, about two of the top US dairy producers declaring bankruptcy ... and Someone moved it to ~food.
Harumpf.
~food is "check out this new latte recipe" or "how to survive the vegetarian keto diet" (yes, that's a thing; I'm on it. May be why I'm cranky).
My post was ~news, about the US economy, shifting societal norms, potentially about climate change.
But forget about this specific categorization issue. This is the first time I've bumped into Tildes' moderation methodology.
I don't subscribe to ~food, so for me, my post just vanished, w/o notification or explanation. Took me a few minutes to find it. I don't see any way to ID who moved it (may well have been @Deimos, for all I know), nor any way to challenge the move.
Have I overlooked some 'moderation dispute' button, or some such? Or is moderation here beyond dispute?
ETA: For anyone visiting this post down the line, here's the official/original statement on this ...
I moved your cheese. If you personally feel that it is a stronger fit for ~news then it can be reverted back. I based my judgement on moving it to ~food from this quote in your comment:
You can always shoot me a DM if you disagree with topic changes or tagging that I might have personally implemented on your posts. It's a collaborative effort and I'm always open to feedback. I always try to be as cautious as I can around the subject of tags and topics, but sometimes I might mis-read a posts intent.
Thanks for the feedback. @VoidOutput actually helped a lot.
I was much more irritated by the feeling of unaccountability than any actual edits. Knowing I can find the person who moved my cheese, to discuss it, instantly made me feel better.
But, PS, yeah I still think it belongs in ~news.
Although this particular case seems to be resolved, FWIW, I think a notification of some kind if a post gets moved between categories or re-tagged is at least worth consideration. I can't remember where feature requests are tracked but it would be good to pop it on there if it's not there already. I'm sure some kind soul will post the link to the issue tracker.
I made an issue for it (@rogue_cricket):
https://gitlab.com/tildes/tildes/issues/625
Edit:
Apparently I already made an issue for this 8mo ago and it was accepted:

:P
You can see the complete log of a thread by going on the sidebar and expanding the "Topic log" section.
Cool, danke, that's a start.
Same, although I was disappointed that it wasn't the start of an ARG!
???
An Alternate Reality Game. They are sort-of multimedia puzzle games/scavenger hunts that scatter narratives and clues throughout different web and real world destinations. They often start with weird "rabbit hole" or "trailhead" posts in forums that are meant to get people started.
I haven't following any major ARGs recently, but they can get really complex and convoluted.
Maybe somebody with more involvement in that scene can give some good examples of the genre.
Thanks.
For future reference, all posts you make can be found in your own posting history, even if they're moved to a different group.
Yep, that's where I found it. Just took a minute to realize that, since I posted it, it should still be in my history, even if it's gone from everywhere else.
It is worth noting that, if I hadn't posted it myself ... just something that I noticed on Tildes ... when it gets moved to an unsubscribed-to section, it is, effectively, gone.
Is it possible to have the post be in both ~news and ~food and be noted as a cross-post? I think there are pros and cons to that, and I feel like a similar discussion has been talked about as well as discussions of cases like topics in sub-groups (e.g. games.whatever). I might try to find those threads later.
There's these two, but I think there might be others:

https://tildes.net/~tildes/25f/should_cross_posting_be_allowed
I'm a group-tag anarchist, but it would be nice to be able to tag something with a group name to have it either sideload the content into that group or have it appear in both like a Gmail label.
EDIT: Would also be nice if tags of sufficient weight became their own groups or some sort of psuedo-group, but that's probably one of those unintended consequences or work sinks.
It's business news so it could easily go under ~finance, too. Classification is hard!
If this were Reddit, each group would also be a little community, you could decide which community you want to discuss it with, and moving it to a different community wouldn't necessarily make sense. But on Tildes it seems we mostly just read everything wherever it is. There's not a clear sense of place associated with a group.
