I've already bought Morrowind 4 times (original on PC/CD; original+2 expansions on PC/CD; GOTY on Xbox; Steam), so what's it hurt to buy it a fifth time?

This was me last year, in my mid 30s. In short, I did well in school but struggled with lots of executive functioning skills. I thought I maybe had ADHD, but that was usually blown off by people in my life: "everybody feels that way." Except it kept me from functioning and doing my work. Taking Rx has been really helpful in feeling like I can function, though it's not a total panacea. I too wonder how my life or others' would have turned out differently with a diagnosis much earlier on.

A lot already mentioned, a lot I didn't know about! A few things I can think of off the top of my head:

    • Fresh ground black pepper

    • Fresh ground nutmeg

    • whole spices in general; I like to toast them first then grind to add to baked goods--I've been making pfeffernusse which has a lot of winter warming spices in it

    • molasses, but mostly because it let's me make brown sugar when I need it

    • kewpie mayo

    • Various chili crisps--I've been using a Momofuku one that has a citrus note to it which I've been enjoying a lot

    • vanilla paste instead of vanilla extract, in part because you get those pretty specs of vanilla in light colored uses

    • Lemon/lime zest in addition to citrus juice in recipes

    • Various fruit cheongs to add in to recipes but especially drinks

    • I'm allergic to garlic so I've been trying to use hing/asafoetida as a substitute, TBD on how it's going though.

    • One of the big ones was just using fresh veggies/fruit from when I worked on a farm: we grew varietals bred for taste, and lots of different leaves for spring mix. That was a cool way to make something like salad more interesting for people

    • I made a bunch of preserved lemons when I could buy them cheaply, but I'm honestly not totally sure how to use them most effectively.

On a similar note, a zester is a special kitchen tool I really find helps a lot! An immersion blender too

I applied to grad school 10+ years ago (wow, unreal it's been that long...) for a STEM field and I applied to many schools and visited a handful of them. I was lucky that the school I went to had the people, city, and academics I liked the best. I went for a PhD and ended up being at my school/city for 7 years before I moved. After that much time, I feel like you grow to love and hate the city regardless: some things are good, others are annoying. When I got there and started TAing, I was the new guy in a class of undergrads who knew the school and city well. Fast forward a few years and now I was the the expert and long-term resident. A lot of cities around grad schools are full of transient residents anyways: there is always a cycle of people moving through.

I think more detail from you would help you get better advice. At the end of the day, the city/vibes matter less than the school/department/advisor/peers/support package. The latter is what will help you move on to your next step.

Happy to chat via DM/PM if that's helpful!

Haven't printed anything in a couple years, but I was going strong on a Monoprice Mini v2! Great little machine with a big nodding community. I was having some issues with bed alignment / my gantry arm was a bit wobbly, and then I moved twice and haven't unpacked it since. I inherited a Lulzbot recently, not sure its worth the time or effort to set up though. Mostly would use for teaching. Was always interested in resin printing for tabletop gaming but seemed like a big effort

A few thoughts from a former vegetable grower:

One issue with farmer's markets is getting enough people to make it worth the time of the farmer. I worked a couple years on an organic farm, growing ~50 different things on just 1 acre, and there were only two of us--we were constantly busy (behind) on tasks. We cycled through a number of markets, because there usually weren't enough customers to justify all the costs and time spent prepping goods, plus all the waste. Some days we would have been better off just getting caught up at the farm rather than sell the small amount we did. There is a lot of interest in setting up a farmers market in every little town or area, but it's just not feasible. The central, larger markets get enough traffic where it can be viable, which attracts more variety, and so on...

A model that has some potential is a community supported agriculture (CSA) to bundle set items together and have them picked up or delivered.

The issue is that these models only work with organic/chemical free growing; there isn't enough profit on conventially-grown crops in a market-style garden (little bit of lots of different things). And not everyone wants or can afford organic produce

I think encouraging or finding ways to grow fresh produce in food deserts is a way to help alleviate some of the pains, but that's not for everyone, nor is it year- round, nor is it all food products you likely need.

A game I really liked is Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From the Ashes You pilot mobile suits from a first-person cockpit view (regular GM units against Zeon suits). It's a Gundam game of my dreams, honestly: piloting big robots in a non-Warriors style.

Weird associated memory: leaving school early on Sept 11, 2001 after everything happened, and playing this game with my friend.

As well, Armada (as mentioned) was a fun game!
