I know not everyone keeps up with all the changes between game release, so I thought it would be fun to make a list of the new additions to the game since we played last (1.21.4).
Hiding info in case people want to be suprised by the new additions.
1.21.5/6 Spring to Life Drop:
New pig variants for different biomes (cosmetic change only).
Wildflowers, Firefly Bushes: New decorative plants, wildflowers work similarly to the pink blossoms but are yellow, and firefly bushes blink and release firefly particles into the air.
Leaf Litter: decorative leaves for the ground
Fallen Trees: change to worldgen, fallen trees now spawn naturally without using datapacks
Player Locator Bar: UI change to find other players in a world
Lodestone change: no longer requires netherite ingots, much easier to craft in bulk
1.21.9 The Copper Age Drop:
Copper Tools and Armor: better than stone but worse than iron
Copper Golems: craftable mobs that can sort items into chests for you, if allowed to fully oxidize (waxable) they become statues which can be posed in a few different positions for decoration
End Visuals: there is now a strobe effect in the end, big flares of color in the sky which light up the ground
Copper Trapdoor recipe change: now only 4 ingots to craft
1.21.11 Mounts of Mayhem Drop:
Spears and Lunge Enchantment: new weapon that can hit multiple mobs at once and does more damage the faster you are moving, Lunge enchant lets you lunge forward horizontally. It's been discovered you can use the lunge to launch yourself with an elytra. Mobs can spawn with these.
Nautilus and armor: new water mob that can be ridden underwater, it can launch up out of the water and it also gives you water breathing while you ride. Armor is not craftable but was added to existing loot table for buried treasure.
Camel husks and zombie horsemen: new mob zombie camel and zombie horse (zombie horse has technically been in the game for ages but never implemented)
Netherite Horse Armor: nothing to add about the armor, but all you horse lovers are gonna be thrilled to learn that horses and donkeys are now able to be ridden through water. It's still slower than pulling them with a boat, but it's finally possible to ford rivers!

We also didn't have a world map for several weeks (and even then, we only gradually made it bigger every week or so for a while) in order to encourage early-game exploration. I was one of the select few who visited pretty much every biome in the game and could point you towards the optimal biome for gathering materials.

I've been using Voxy (and previously Bobby) because it plays much nicer with the game's lighting engine than Distant Horizons, meaning distant things don't feel flat. Plus it changes the level of detail based on how much of the screen is being taken up, so distant things still look good when using spyglasses or zoom hotkeys.
As Tea pointed out, there's no server side support, so it will only cache chunks you've visited and won't update that cache until you visit them again. I'm ok with this trade-off, personally, and have made it part of my personal modpack that I use pretty much everywhere.
I have been using it as a client side mod on a pure vanilla server. It loads all chunks that were previously loaded sans the mod. Awesome performance on an old 2020 laptop with gtx1650. I've never...

I'm honestly unreasonably excited. I've spent so my free time the last few days designing my new skin and mocking up my base in Axiom; can't wait to start another server with y'all :)

I think I’ll play it this season. I’ve not had a modded server experience (apart from The Verge’s server, which must have been a decade ago at this point) so I’m open to broadening my horizons....
I think I’ll play it this season. I’ve not had a modded server experience (apart from The Verge’s server, which must have been a decade ago at this point) so I’m open to broadening my horizons. Despite playing the game on and off since basically its inception, I kept things as vanilla as possible. I just like to build simple stuff in my corner of the world with manual labor. I think that should be fine?
Speaking of mods, can anyone suggest me a good launcher? Modrinth seems good, but I’d like to hear from people with some knowledge. I also want to make the game look as realistic as possible and came across this collection. What do you think?
Is there a super dummies guide on how to set up and join? I haven't played Minecraft since ..... 20 years ago and I am immediately confused by which version to purchase Like, crazy dumb

Woo!
Will we get to see the seed beforehand? I've got a couple vague base ideas, but it depends on what's available in worldgen
We likely won't. At least last season we didn't. We also didn't have a world map for several weeks (and even then, we only gradually made it bigger every week or so for a while) in order to encourage early-game exploration. I was one of the select few who visited pretty much every biome in the game and could point you towards the optimal biome for gathering materials.
I'd support this for this season too.
Good to know, thank you!
It's also worth knowing that we'll most likely be using the Terralith datapack again which adds a bunch of unique biomes.
I'm very excited, been anticipating it since the announcement thread. I invited my brother to play as well!

@mycketforvirrad can we:
source.norealtogether or replace it withsource.tildes.nore.gg/source.nore.ggas the tld is part of the "branding"?Has anyone here looked into Voxy and potentially replacing Distant Horizons with it?
https://modrinth.com/mod/voxy
It doesn’t seem to have server-side support like Distant Horizons does.
I have been using voxy and so far I prefer it. The rendering looks way less boxy.
I've been using Voxy (and previously Bobby) because it plays much nicer with the game's lighting engine than Distant Horizons, meaning distant things don't feel flat. Also, is there a full list of the datapacks we landed on for this season, anywhere?
