Not related to Minecraft or anything, but is your username from the Enchanted Forest Chronicles? I really liked that series. Cimorene and Morgan were so much fun:)

It is! I read the books when I was younger and really felt a connection with Mendanbar in book 2. I started using it as my name online and it sort of stuck. 🙂

Just wanted to say, thanks for keeping me in the loop, although I'm not going to have time to join in for now, I do hope I will have some time in the future.

Reposting comment to new thread!:
I know not everyone keeps up with all the changes between game release, so I thought it would be fun to make a list of the new additions to the game since we played last (1.21.4).
Hiding info in case people want to be suprised by the new additions.
1.21.5/6 Spring to Life Drop:
New pig variants for different biomes (cosmetic change only).
Wildflowers, Firefly Bushes: New decorative plants, wildflowers work similarly to the pink blossoms but are yellow, and firefly bushes blink and release firefly particles into the air.
Leaf Litter: decorative leaves for the ground
Fallen Trees: change to worldgen, fallen trees now spawn naturally without using datapacks
Player Locator Bar: UI change to find other players in a world
Lodestone change: no longer requires netherite ingots, much easier to craft in bulk
1.21.9 The Copper Age Drop:
Copper Tools and Armor: better than stone but worse than iron
Copper Golems: craftable mobs that can sort items into chests for you, if allowed to fully oxidize (waxable) they become statues which can be posed in a few different positions for decoration
End Visuals: there is now a strobe effect in the end, big flares of color in the sky which light up the ground
Copper Trapdoor recipe change: now only 4 ingots to craft
1.21.11 Mounts of Mayhem Drop:
Spears and Lunge Enchantment: new weapon that can hit multiple mobs at once and does more damage the faster you are moving, Lunge enchant lets you lunge forward horizontally. It's been discovered you can use the lunge to launch yourself with an elytra. Mobs can spawn with these.
Nautilus and armor: new water mob that can be ridden underwater, it can launch up out of the water and it also gives you water breathing while you ride. Armor is not craftable but was added to existing loot table for buried treasure.
Camel husks and zombie horsemen: new mob zombie camel and zombie horse (zombie horse has technically been in the game for ages but never implemented)
Netherite Horse Armor: nothing to add about the armor, but all you horse lovers are gonna be thrilled to learn that horses and donkeys are now able to be ridden through water. It's still slower than pulling them with a boat, but it's finally possible to ford rivers!

although I have kept somewhat up to date with releases, I appreciate this a lot. I miss the good ol' days of the MC launcher that was a black background with white text that lists out the new features of each release. I felt that having that as the main screen of the old launcher made it way easier to stay informed

Minor note to avoid confusion: You'll see me online from two accounts this season. @TaylorSwiftsPickles will remain my active account, which I'll be using mainly from my steam deck, whereas @TranssexualPickles* will be my mainly-AFK account which'll be used mainly for loading farms & accessing the server's chat on my phone via @creesch's mod. Both are me :P

I have asked my alter ego and I was told that the pickles in question are a separate, distinct jar of pickles, still owned by Taylor Swift. They were transed by Taylor Swift after the master record of the Midnights album accidentally fell into the brine while it was being prepared. Rumour has it that the pickles in question have evolved a singular consciousness and have learned to homebrew their own gender-affirming care and may thus cause adverse effects upon consumption.
The context behind the username is that "TS" can be interpreted both as Taylor Swift and as Transsexual. And as TypeScript, among other things... Is TypeScriptPickles next?
I'm honestly unreasonably excited. I've spent so my free time the last few days designing my new skin and mocking up my base in Axiom; can't wait to start another server with y'all :)

Tea hasn't released that info yet, but I bet he will update this thread or put it in a new one next week when we launch. I'd guess it's likely we'll continue using what we used last season, though in another comment I recommended a new one, Age Lock, which lets you nametag baby mobs to prevent them from ever growing up.

I think I’ll play it this season. I’ve not had a modded server experience (apart from The Verge’s server, which must have been a decade ago at this point) so I’m open to broadening my horizons. Despite playing the game on and off since basically its inception, I kept things as vanilla as possible. I just like to build simple stuff in my corner of the world with manual labor. I think that should be fine?
Speaking of mods, can anyone suggest me a good launcher? Modrinth seems good, but I’d like to hear from people with some knowledge. I also want to make the game look as realistic as possible and came across this collection. What do you think?
Prism Launcher is what most of the modded community uses now. I can't speak for the Modrinth Launcher, but I expect that would work just as well if you're interested in a Modrinth-hosted modpack.

The collection you linked is an OK start. Really, just find something interesting, try it out, and maybe change some things if you feel like it. Fabric modding has a different feel to Forge, and so it's not uncommon to see lots of smaller mods doing the job that one big mod might do with Forge. There are a couple of pretty common mod packs that do a lot of the basics (by which I mean whatever Optifine did when it was more popular). The big ones are Fabulously Optimized and Additive, with the former being more of an all-in-one experience and the latter being much more suited to tinkering around with. From there, just find some shaders and resource packs you like and don't make your computer cry too much, and you'll be well on your way.
Thank you for your detailed reply! I’ll go with Prism for the time being. I don’t mind a bit of a learning curve and I could get familiar with names like shaders and resource packs and all that. I...

I installed the mods on that list I shared along with some others , and wow doesitlookgood!
I use Migurinth, which is a fork of the Modrinth launcher with all ads removed. (I tried Prism but I found I really appreciated the ease of use and layout of Migurinth/Modrinth over it.)

I'm not a super technical player and just don’t have much experience with farms nor redstone mechanisms yet and would love to learn from people who do since I mainly play in a really basic way: Exploring around, maybe getting a horse, building a pretty house, a tiny farm for my crops etc. Honestly, part of why I’m asking is I want to see how other people approach the game so I can find new ways to enjoy it too.
What's the general vibe on the server? Is it mostly everyone doing their own thing, or are there shared bases / group builds / neighborhoods / community projects? I assume there's a mix of all of those, but I'd love to interact more with everyone while I'm there.

Honestly? The general vibe of the server is "do whatever you wish and play in whatever way makes you feel good, aside from being a dick to other players". Community projects & neighbourhoods are a thing (especially in tildetown); individual bases and megabases are a thing; shared bases are a thing... Some people live and play completely solo, whereas others play in a more communal way, and anything in between. Some people are builders/architects; some are "decorators"; some are redstone engineers whose passion is building farms and automating things; and some are just casual survival players. Some just join in for all the shenanigans. Anything goes!
We're going to have our fair share of less-experienced players this season, so don't worry about it. We're all just there to have fun! Excluding me, of course. I'm here just to be slay and girlboss too close to the sun (/s)wheeee
I normally play off on my own but participate in chat and help if anybody needs it. I'm not too interested in building in/around the town. But I enjoy the social aspect of playing on a server....

This time, I'm starting off straight away building a huge nether hub wherever we set up town. I'm definitely going to need help clearing a lot of space in the nether for my plans. Feel free to jump in whenever you want, I'll have work for you. And while I am in no way a redstone expert, I can usually tinker around and get things to work. So let me know if you need anything built and I can try to explain my way through it.

However, most people will have at least a couple of performance-enhancement mods installed, because minecraft proper can be kind of resource-intensive to PCs. There's a modpack with them here including instructions on how to install via various ways. You may also need the auto-installer for the Fabric mod loader from here if you do it manually from the official launcher
I'd be happy to help you with a self-recorded video if you'll need though.

Also, I'm definitely up for any community project, please feel free to contact me if you don't mind me helping.

Just checking that we are going to have endermen griefing turned off again? I personally don't mind creeper or ghast explosions because those make sense and are mostly avoidable. But endermen randomly stealing pieces of a build is just dumb.

We likely won't. At least last season we didn't. We also didn't have a world map for several weeks (and even then, we only gradually made it bigger every week or so for a while) in order to encourage early-game exploration. I was one of the select few who visited pretty much every biome in the game and could point you towards the optimal biome for gathering materials.
I do think getting the seed could prove problematic. But, is there any way for Tea to tell us the biome of spawn? Might be a good detail to get the hype up (or at least my hype)

I've never played Minecraft but have played other survival games, like 7d2d, Valheim, etc. Would this be a good experience do you think? I don't want to annoy people with my lack of experience.

I've never played Valhiem, but I have played 7d2d a decent bit. The "survival" aspect of Minecraft is less intense I would say (there aren't weekly raids of your base for example), and the game is more focused on building structures for fun rather than function necessarily. The game is a lot more whimsical than 7d2d as well, lots of friendly/passive mobs, you can get an item that let's you fly in the late game, more unique and varied biomes (especially with a datapack we use). And if you're a technically-minded person, you can learn how redstone works (far too much to explain here, but you can make games/automatic farms/automatic doors/puzzles/animated armor stands/etc.)

So based on thst, I'd say it's definitely worth it to give Minecraft a try :)

Looking for help with a week-1 project!
A place adjacent spawn to welcome new, or respawned, players. Intended on being a welcoming, not imposing, build would serve to orient new players with a small map, basic equipment, and some starting food. It would also serve as a fast transport spot hooked up to the road network, minecart rail, and nether roof portals (although I'm thinking the latter should be 'hidden,' and maybe accessible by jumping in the well?). Rooms for player housing, a few communal rooms, a villager run bar, a small farm, stables, and crafting area would make this area useful for new and respawning characters.
The theme would be biome dependent, but a generic european medieval inn style works in most placed, too. In order to get this area built and useful before it becomes less relevant as the server ages, I think I will need some help. I've never really collaborated on building before, but I'd love to get some planning/design/architecture/general build help on a new "The Spawned Inn*" Let me know if you're interested!

My first week is going to be doing a LOT of digging in the nether, so I don't think I'll be able to help there. But I think I'm going to plan to put a Vanilla GPS box near spawn (since not everybody uses/wants to use map mods). Since lodestones no longer require netherite to make, I want to put a lodestone at all major locations in the 3 dimensions with a bunch of compasses pointed at them. That way, its easier to find your way around the server with a more vanilla feel.
To take this idea a step further, we could use bundles as well to grab a pack of all destinations but also have individual ones as well if you need to just locate one specific point

Oooh. I like that. I was originally just going to have a chest full of compasses for each location and refill as needed. But premaking some would be smart.

Mind if I/we put up a mini notice board somewhere nearby/inside? I'm probably undertaking some periodic "municipal assistance" duties for tildetown this season to assist players in finding empty plots to build in inside tildetown, and it sounds like a good place to inform players about it.

Not only that, but also maybe add some "Quests board" kinda thing? Maybe someone needs a few stacks of wood in the future and don't have time for that since they're working on something else, they could put a paper or a book with what they want. Or someone's looking for a specific mob they want as a pet and are struggling to find it etc? I think it would be fun to have some sort of community help nearby the inn.

That's actually a really cool suggestion for in-game (immersive) asynchronous communication. People - myself included - had undertaken such tasks last season. But, let's face it, our weekly threads on tildes become chaotic pretty fast and it's easy to lose track of what's being discussed, and you can't always be online in-game either.
Spawn might not be an optimal location (judging from last season) as almost nobody but new players organically went there. But a build near/inside the community storage @IsildursBane is building just outside the town or in some kind of community centre/town hall in Tildetown would work. I'm thinking of styling my own communal build in the style of the latter idea, and leaving empty plots inside for other players to put their own communal services there, should they wish to.

As someone who advocated strongly for in-game navigation last season for immersion, I fully support this idea. However, last season the community board was underutilized, getting clogged up with old notices that never got taken down. I would advocate for a system of removal of old signs from the start with the new board.
That community board didn't really have a specific purpose, to be fair - we used it for "graffiti" and mini-announcements but that's all. And I'd still definitely want such a board again this...

As for the "quests" board, making it somehow clear that the "quest" is already "in progress" by someone else would already help a lot even if the post itself accidentally stays up too long.
Anyway, it wouldn't take me too much effort to clean up notice boards all around the town every for posts older than e.g. 30 days regularly. I already informally did such a thing last season anyway (albeit less regularly/etc) so I can definitely do it again

I've been preparing my mods. For better communication with books, I suggest using the Scribble mod. It is a client side mod that helps with formatting books better so that they're easier to read.

Nether hub is going to be about 200 blocks in diameter, so it'll incorporate a lot of overworld. And if its not directly in the hub, it'll be easy to add a connecting tunnel

I've been using Voxy (and previously Bobby) because it plays much nicer with the game's lighting engine than Distant Horizons, meaning distant things don't feel flat. Plus it changes the level of detail based on how much of the screen is being taken up, so distant things still look good when using spyglasses or zoom hotkeys.
As Tea pointed out, there's no server side support, so it will only cache chunks you've visited and won't update that cache until you visit them again. I'm ok with this trade-off, personally, and have made it part of my personal modpack that I use pretty much everywhere.

I am all set up! Looks like a few mods (Xaero's, in particular) are still awaiting updates, but most stuff is ready to go. Got my shaders and resource packs all sorted. Ran into some performance issues with shaders enabled. I was getting like 9 FPS, but it turned out Minecraft was using my laptop's integrated GPU, rather than the big boy GPU. Happy to report a solid 60ish FPS with the "use discrete" tweak enabled in Prism Launcher.

In previous threads I've discussed my plans for the season (giant flying cyberpunk-esque city). I'm hoping this doesn't end up being too big of a project for me to complete in survival. I've been planning in creative for a little over 2 months and this is what I've accomplished so far. Hopefully we're going to have another long season cause there is still a lot of open space for more buildings. I'm also trying to incorporate games into the city: many of the buildings will have a parkour challenge incorporated into them, the sewer system can be accessed by completing one of these challenges which will itself also have some redstone puzzles and parkour involved, there will be a rail line that weaves throughout the city which doubles as a shooting game, and I've also been hiding dried ghasts inside builds to see if anyone finds them all. I doubt I'll have time for many other projects this season, but I do want to continue the tradition of building a Hall of Heroes for the server, so when we start if everyone could let me kill them for their heads that would be great. :D
Don't worry about the season's length. If I hadn't intentionally pulled out of S2 during a time of otherwise near-zero activity on the server & I didn't poke Tea about it, S2 could have...
Don't worry about the season's length. If I hadn't intentionally pulled out of S2 during a time of otherwise near-zero activity on the server & I didn't poke Tea about it, S2 could have potentially held out for longer. Tea has made it pretty clear in the past that as long as there's even a little bit of interest, the server's staying up.

Edit: just looked at the screenshots and realized you'll probably want to build over an ocean to have more vertical space. Mountain biome is probably not the best choice for that lol. :)

Time for a little "new skin reveal" & a reminder of what my plans are for the current season.
--The Plan--
This season, I'm building an imaginary Polish town, named Malinowo (lit. "raspberry settlement"), situated in the 1980s, during the last few years of the East Bloc. The goal for this project is to respectfully (both in terms of history and in terms of the people who lived through the PRL regime) portray 1980s Poland through a "photorealist" view. This project is meant to be an art/architecture/history study for me, and does not mean or intend to glorify the PRL, the USSR, and any other authoritarian regime, nor does it otherwise mean or intend to make people from the former East Bloc uncomfortable.
Unlike many of you, I have not placed a single block in a testing world - instead, my preparation has taken the form of research - I've been surveying historic archives online and I've also been physically investigating real-world city-planning in various locations in Poland. As such, there's currently no actual clue what the city itself is going to end up like. My high level plans at the moment include a high-density residential area and well as an industrial area, plus a realistic electric grid & energy factory. I'd love to be able to build more (incl. e.g. an "old town" historic district), but I don't know whether I'll realistically have the time, doing this solo... That said, I mentioned in an older thread, I welcome any well-meaning collaboration with other players, be it a project inside the town or a completely independent, on-theme project in reasonable proximity to the town.
--My CharacterTM--
So... My old skin would feel very out of place, as it's inspired by 2010s punk rock and queer fashion. Also, my old skin feels out of place in my real life too. When I created it back in 2024, it represented my own "target state" for my looks in real life. But I've since attained and even surpassed that target state. So I went with something different this time. Something that both fits my own "wishes" for the time being, while also being somewhat more possible for the era.
However, that was very tricky. I spent weeks trying to figure out something that was realistic, common, properly "translatable" into minecraft skin limitations, and actually looked beautiful to me and made me happy to look at it. The only thing that would have fit all criteria except for the latter would be a militaristic outfit, which I explicitly wished to avoid due to the philosophy I mentioned earlier on in my commen. I tinkered with things for a while but wasn't happy with anything. Then, I started looking into "high fashion" examples from the East German magazine Sibylle and, after looking through all of their publicly-available stuff, I ended up throwing something together, inspired by those works. This was the result - which sadly is still somewhat anachronistic, albeit in a different way. For better or worse, this significantly limits the in-character background of my character. Meaning, either my character is a tailor (or something similar) by profession, or my character is otherwise well-connected with the hypothetical people running the regime. I'm not sure about her background yet, so we'll see, but I think I'm leaning towards the first option.
It's worth noting, though, that canonically, my character for this season is indeed the same character as last season, and some of you know why (*wink wink*). So, expect a few easter eggs from last season here and there ;)
Oh, by the way. Anyone mind if I "pre-claim" the red line from the future train station? I have ideas on how to connect my place with tildetown & other stuff in a "lore-friendly" way. And red...

That's very inspiring, I am excited to see how it comes along! I have been daydreaming off and on about what I may want to put effort into this time around, I started super late last time around and didn't feel like I had much IRL time to play so I didn't really do anything other than build my house. I'll have to keep soul searching :)
I feel this so much. I've considered a few times asking if anyone wanted to team up on my project, but I wouldn't want others to use their time bringing my vision to life. Awesome! Congrats! Edit:...

And, well, it's not bad per se to team up. For instance, someone else might have wanted to build a cyberpunk-inspired city too, perhaps inspired by hermitcraft's last season. In this case it would make perfect sense for you and them to consider collaborating in some way. Not necessarily in a "let's build a city together" way, but also in "let's build whatever we want near each other and see how we interconnect them". E.g. like in a "Night City/Pacifica/Dogtown" way, but perhaps split by a natural border. Though, with your city being up in the sky, this one would be tough because of the time investment required to even set up a sky platform.

Just a "soft" collective/mutual agreement. Nobody specifically enforces it or is "the police". In-game you can just plop a sign with your name down on the place you want to "claim" as a location you'll build something on, and others will respect that.
Just to add: If you are claiming an area in or around town, you should use some blocks to mark off the area you're laying claim to. If you want to claim some land elsewhere to build, something...

Just to add: If you are claiming an area in or around town, you should use some blocks to mark off the area you're laying claim to. If you want to claim some land elsewhere to build, something more like a tower of blocks for visibility with a sign and general size of area you want to claim.
Though, please don't claim an area in town and not do anything for months on it.

Never joined the last one, but am excited to have a fun way to scratch the minecraft itch thats been creeping back in. Is there a whitelist or anything necessary to be able to join? I've seen some of the basic rules and ethos of the server in the comments here but nothing on the process of signing up for the server. Sorry if im dense and just missing it somewhere obvious.
I'm sure there will be a new thread on launch day. In the top notes of that thread, there will be a link to a verification page that will have all the info you need to whitelist yourself

Last minute queries:
Are creeper griefing and ghast griefing turned off? I just feel like there is enough grief in the world as is.
Are sleeping rules going to be the same as last season (only one person needs to sleep to pass night)?
And, I'll put this in in-game chat as well, but as people find empty maps and paper, I'd love to collect some of those at spawn to start on early server maps!
We're going live on January 3rd, 19:00 UTC!
Final(?) ping for everyone formerly involved:

It’s that many people?! I never knew. I might have to get involved at some point then, too :-)
(Always wanted to last season already, but never quite got around to it)
one of us. one of us.
It's the Tildes inner circle :D
* Inspired by a conversation between myself, Evie, and Tea, on the 23rd of June, 2025
Alright but, are they still Taylor Swift's? Or is this new set of pickles a completely unrelated amount of pickles? Have they freed themselves from the confines of being in Taytay's possession? WHO OWNS THESE NEW PICKLES?!
Also, is there a full list of the datapacks we landed on for this season, anywhere?
Tea hasn't released that info yet, but I bet he will update this thread or put it in a new one next week when we launch. I'd guess it's likely we'll continue using what we used last season, though in another comment I recommended a new one, Age Lock, which lets you nametag baby mobs to prevent them from ever growing up.
Missed you!

Thanks! I’ll go with Prism then. It seems to be open source, and I don’t mind a bit of a learning curve.
You’ll want to set up a 1.21.11 instance, then install the Fabric loader and then some mods.
Yep, that’s what I did. Thanks!
The Modrinth launcher is probably the most user friendly one out thereat the moment. If you need more complexity then Prism is good, but it's definitely built for people who already know what they want.
I installed the mods on that list I shared along with some others , and wow does it look good!
I use Migurinth, which is a fork of the Modrinth launcher with all ads removed. (I tried Prism but I found I really appreciated the ease of use and layout of Migurinth/Modrinth over it.)
I've been using TLauncher, and it's been pretty good. One of the features I like is that before you start the game you can look at the update logs, and if you don't like the current version, you can play with a older one with no issues.
Hey folks! I joined for the first time mid-season last time, but between time and motivation, I didn't end up playing much. I'm very excited for the new season and would like to be more involved this season and actually be around.
She’s a girlboss
I normally play off on my own but participate in chat and help if anybody needs it. I'm not too interested in building in/around the town. But I enjoy the social aspect of playing on a server.
Is there a super dummies guide on how to set up and join? I haven't played Minecraft since ..... 20 years ago and I am immediately confused by which version to purchase
Like, crazy dumb
Edit: alternatively, details of versions / mods we're using and I'll chat bot my way in :)
We don't use any mods you will need to install. Everything is on the server's side. We use the Java edition and we'll be using version 1.21.11.
I've been lazy and not tried to get a good experience going with a controller on Java edition yet. I have tried with my trackpad and it's a disaster. What's the start date, please? I'm sorry if it's been posted and I missed it.
January 3rd, 19:00 UTC. The link contains a countdown.
Oh so it does. Thanks very much
Thankies ~ I'll give it a try before flagging for more help :)
is there a way to pre-test I've done things correctly before launching day?
As long as the actual game boots up when you launch a modded version, instead of crashing and telling you something went wrong, you should be good to go. We'll see about any additional needs you may have when you actually play - especially as you haven't touched the game in so long. I'll be happy to help
Been waiting for this. I don't know if I'm gonna make it at launch, but I'll try to be there.
Don't have much planned for now, but I've been wanting to build a version of purgatory from the Yakuza series.
Also, I'm definitely up for any community project, please feel free to contact me if you don't mind me helping.
@teaearlgreycold can we have a list of the plugins used please?
The plugin list isn’t finalized. I can provide more details in a few days.
Oh! That reminds me! I have another datapack to suggest that just recently got added to VanillaTweaks. Age Lock lets you nametag mobs so that they don't grow up into adult versions. We could have permanent baby mobs!
I CONCUR THE GASP OF BABY MODS.
God my base is going to be overrun with kittens.
We shall pet baby mobs in towns, we shall pet them on the seas and oceans, we shall pet them with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall decorate our server with baby mobs, whatever the cost may be. We shall spawn them on the beaches, we shall spawn them on the landing grounds, we shall spawn them in the fields and in the streets, we shall spawn them in the hills; we shall never surrender.
I think every player should be required to deliver a baby animal to Noox's base. That way, she'll be required to build a zoo.
Gasp! Baby mobs! Yes please!
Plugins are the same as before. Datapacks are mostly the same but a few new additions from Vanilla Tweaks:
@teaearlgraycold
Just checking that we are going to have endermen griefing turned off again? I personally don't mind creeper or ghast explosions because those make sense and are mostly avoidable. But endermen randomly stealing pieces of a build is just dumb.
Yes
Sa-weet
While in theory I had two weeks off in this period a lot IRL stuff has happened leaving me with little time to prepare. But, to not leave people hanging I have made some time today to update and release the webchat mod. It should now be available on modrinth.
@TaylorSwiftsPickles
@teaearlgraycold
Note, I did the bare minimum of testing on this release.
Thank you for your service!
Woo!
Will we get to see the seed beforehand? I've got a couple vague base ideas, but it depends on what's available in worldgen
I'd support this for this season too.
Good to know, thank you!
It's also worth knowing that we'll most likely be using the Terralith datapack again which adds a bunch of unique biomes.
I do think getting the seed could prove problematic. But, is there any way for Tea to tell us the biome of spawn? Might be a good detail to get the hype up (or at least my hype)
I haven’t set things up to that degree yet
Tea doesn't usually release seed information. That way you can't use things like chunkbase to find anything - gotta find what you want naturally.
I'm very excited, been anticipating it since the announcement thread. I invited my brother to play as well!
I have a friend with over 1000 hours in 7dt2, and way back when Minecraft servers were at their peak, he got totally addicted. He often made comparisons between the games and he still plays both (though less, because life intrudes and other games exist).
So based on thst, I'd say it's definitely worth it to give Minecraft a try :)
My plan is to die a lot and just respawn a lot, as long as it's not spamming the server chat with death notifications.... I'm sure you'll be fine.
...allow me to introduce you to my and Gravy's death competition from last season. I won with 2025 deaths. Those included a lot of spam thanks to Mendanbar's killing machine.
Lol aiming for 2026 this year?
Maybe someone can sign up to be your guide. I’d at least recommend playing a bit in single player and watching some videos to get started.
*Inn name is subject to change.
I'll be happy to help.
Generic european medieval inn with some asian twist and a well are what I built last season.
I'm not too sure about online times, but we can always leave checklists and I can always do some material gathering when needed.
And I'd still definitely want such a board again this season :P
That was actually why the idea popped in my head, I normally struggle to follow threads here let alone keeping track on what people may need help with so it would be awesome to have a wall with item-frames for books requesting help with specific tasks.
Honestly, go for it, it's a great idea and I'd definitely suggest that you add it somewhere! I can brainstorm with you some days after the server starts, if you need any assistance, and it shouldn't need too many materials :)
One step ahead of you! I've already been thinking about designs for it, and even a mailbox at my base for deliveries if I ever post something there. Though, the style will a hundred percent change depending on where it'll be placed.
I've been preparing my mods.
For better communication with books, I suggest using the Scribble mod. It is a client side mod that helps with formatting books better so that they're easier to read.
Sure wish I knew about this when I was making a Holy Book... >_>
I'll probably build the Hall of Heroes nearby as my early game project. Or maybe put it in the basement of the Inn?
My big project is probably not something I'll tackle right away, so I would be happy to help with early resource collection to donate and general building assistance.
Happy to help out with this! I don't really have a plan for this season yet, so I'll probably just help out with whatever community projects are going on.
I'd be glad to help. I have a short attention span so my base won't be very big, and I should have some time to chip in.
Hmm, shouldn't the spawn portal connect to the actual nether hub?
Nether hub is going to be about 200 blocks in diameter, so it'll incorporate a lot of overworld. And if its not directly in the hub, it'll be easy to add a connecting tunnel
Ideally, both, although nether portals will get grumpy if there are too many in close proximity...
Has anyone here looked into Voxy and potentially replacing Distant Horizons with it?
https://modrinth.com/mod/voxy
I've been using Voxy (and previously Bobby) because it plays much nicer with the game's lighting engine than Distant Horizons, meaning distant things don't feel flat. Plus it changes the level of detail based on how much of the screen is being taken up, so distant things still look good when using spyglasses or zoom hotkeys.
As Tea pointed out, there's no server side support, so it will only cache chunks you've visited and won't update that cache until you visit them again. I'm ok with this trade-off, personally, and have made it part of my personal modpack that I use pretty much everywhere.
Thanks for linking that. I've been looking forward to playing from the beginning this year but not had the time to put together qol mods for myself.
It doesn’t seem to have server-side support like Distant Horizons does.
I have been using voxy and so far I prefer it. The rendering looks way less boxy.
I have been using it as a client side mod on a pure vanilla server. It loads all chunks that were previously loaded sans the mod. Awesome performance on an old 2020 laptop with gtx1650. I've never actually used DH so I can't compare.
Oh I saw a showcase about that on YouTube a couple of days ago. Purplers was it showed it off? It did look good
I just tried it today and I also think I'm sold. The only thing it's missing IMO is comparability with complementary shaders, but I'm guessing that will come with time. For now I've switched to BSL shaders and that's good enough.
Most likely updates will arrive by showtime.
Xaero's mods are up to date!
yes! Then I am 100% ready to go and just counting down the days!
There's a version of Litematica for 1.21.11 released on Modrinth already, in case you hadn't seen it.
Unfortunately I'm busy when the world opens but I'll try to join a week or two later. Looking forward to seeing this new world!
I'm (perhaps naively) optimistic I'll get a chance to play when things start up. Dealing with a relatively new infant at home :)
excited regardless!
Congratulations on the new baby mob!!! That's quite the achievement :)
Woo! See you all in 24 hours!
DANG IT! You beat me to it!
So I’ve not really done much before but plan to this time at least a little. I prefer survival style, but instead I’m going to try use the Minecraft world as a memory palace, so try create some more interesting architectures!
Are you thinking of designing your own, or a real word replica?
Designing bits of my own, but if we can get a copy of the world at the end, using anything anyone makes!
If I hadn't intentionally pulled out of S2 during a time of otherwise near-zero activity on the server & I didn't poke Tea about it, S2 could have potentially held out for longer. Tea has made it pretty clear in the past that as long as there's even a little bit of interest, the server's staying up.
I'm sure I'll need a few breaks from the slog of my nether plans. I'll be more than happy to help you place a few blocks now and then.
Picked a location yet?
Not yet, but soon. I just finished my "starter home" near town earlier today.
The airspace over the ancient city is free if you'd like to be "roomies" again. :D
It's pretty far from town though.
And red would be the most fitting colour...
Awesome! Congrats!
Edit: Oh and the new skin is very nice too!
Thank you! :D
Woah, full server! Exclusive!
I hopped off to refill my coffee without realizing it was almost full. Now I'm sipping my coffee and feeling the FOMO.
Last time I played Minecraft was about 10 years ago, but I never played multiplayer, and I'm very curious to try. Are there any rules/agreements active on this server? Will it make sense to join a week later or so after the start?
Also I read sometimes in the comments about "reserving the plot". Is it some kind of game mechanic or just mutual agreement? How does it work?
Wheaton's law
New people kept joining every month in the previous iteration of the server. Go for it, don't worry
If you want to claim some land elsewhere to build, something more like a tower of blocks for visibility with a sign and general size of area you want to claim.
Though, please don't claim an area in town and not do anything for months on it.
Ok, thanks for clarifying. By the way, will it be obvious what area belong to the town?
It should be pretty obvious. It'll look like a community area and I'm sure there will be signs from spawn to town within a day or week of launch
There will also be a lot of chatter about it both in-game and in the weekly threads as people coordinate common infrastructure like roads, railways, storage, portals, farms, etc. And of course people talking about and commenting on each others' builds!
Awesome, appreciate the information!
Yes to both
