Tildes Minecraft Survival - Final day scheduled for July 17th
The server will shut down on July 17th in the evening (US Pacific time)
We will then start up on the 25th for a special 3 day hardcore survival server. After that the server will be offline for a few months for everyone's Minecraft-o-meter to recharge.

Sneaky edit since this is the top comment:
World download now available for offline play
I realize that some of you didn't join this season, but I couldn't differentiate using the nickname plugin. So, thank you for playing at some point!

I didn't, joined too late to make any meaningful progress in the world, but this is pulling double duty of a reminder for me to jump on the early-game next season, so thanks!
I pivoted from Linux to Mac OS and have not yet got my Minecraft up and running on Mac. I need to do that before next time!
On a relevant note, maybe you or Tea could make the same tags on the first thread related to the next season, prior to the beginning of the actual server? I know I have some things I'd like to discuss about my plans but I'll be all over the place over the next few months and there's no guarantee i'll see it when it gets posted
Sure! I mean feel free to just copy this comment if I forget on that thread :P
I totally forgot that I jumped on one day just to briefly look around! But 3-day hardcore eh? Hmmmmmm
While I didn't contribute much (just two small subway extensions), thanks again for hosting this server! It was always fun popping in every few weeks and seeing how drastically the world had changed. I look forward to the final session tomorrow (the 17th), I promise I'll be there in the evening!
I am just a lowly OP doing some light admin duties, @teaearlgraycold is the one deserving all credits for hosting the thing ;)
Aww, thanks for the shout. Yea I haven't really had much time for MC at all the past few years. Game is a damn commitment and I sink way too much time into it when it pulls me in every now and then haha
This is not "gg no re" for nore.gg. We will be back!
Greater and more powerful than ever before!
I enjoyed the time I spent on the server. I wish I had more time to put into it but I got my Minecraft fix so all is good.
Will the new server (in some months) be a new world? I felt like I was coming in "late" where most things were already built and up and running, and it would be neat to be at the ground level on the next round. I will keep a sharp eye out for the next iteration regardless!
Yeah, when we reset it will be a whole new world!
a whole new wooooorld
A new, fantastic point of view
I considered joining a few times but life got in the way and then I felt I'd be too late in, so I'll need to keep an eye out for the relaunch
Just going to do this as a seperate comment, so it doesn't get overlooked. In the world download file (see my other comment) there is also a directory called
stats
which as it turns out contains player stats. I already made a quick and dirty dashboard where you could paste in the json data, but that would require you to find out what your minecraft UUID is, etc, etc.no more!
Shiny dashboard where you can just click on your name and see some stats for this season
screenshot
Disclaimer: I hacked this togeter just for fun and giggles. I also outsourced some of the work to an LLM for a bunch of the boilerplate. I did a bunch of cleanup on the most silly errors and then combined a few bits and pieces from the webchat mod to create the player list. Most stats seem to be somewhat accurate, but it is entirely possible that some of them are just plain wrong.
Thanks a lot for doing this, honestly, even if you outsourced part of the work to an LLM. It's a REALLY cool to be able to see and compare all this information in such an easy to visualise way, and I remember e.g. Gravy and I comparing some of our stats manually some weeks ago. I really don't think most of us would bother looking into those otherwise, but it's super cool to see it.
I was thinking that MAYBE I'll write a quick python script sometime and output a leaderboard of all "competitive-like" stats among all players and make a post about it. But I don't promise I'll do it, or that I'll do it soon if I do. We'll see.
Heh, that's basically why I outsourced parts of it to an LLM. I could all do it, someday, when I felt like it. Or I could get the LLM to do some basic boilerplate, go for "close enough", fix a few things and finally bolt on some stuff I can more easily myself.
A leaderboard is also something I might hack in at some point. But, scope creep :P So I'll leave that to you, maybe, someday, possibly ;)
@talklittle with the 0.4:1 K/D ratio.
I am very proud of @isildursbane managing to make horses their #2 mode of transport.
I committed early to minimizing elytra. I feel like elytra is OP, and lakes immersion that other modes of travel have. However, some things require elytra and you can see how powerful it is by how high up in my stats flying is.
I mean, yeah your flying stat is still up there, but nothing compared to the rest of us. Overall your travel stats are nicely balanced. So, I'd say you did good on your goals there :)
It was a fun and immersive way to play on the server. I understand why others dont, but I feel like it added more meaning to investing in infrastructure
Yeah fair enough. If anything I feel like that, for a survival server, maybe some of the stuff was too easy to access so soon in that regard. On the one hand I semi like the speedrun we did for many basic suplies so we could focus on a lot on creative projects, on the other hand it also means that some things easily loose their meaning.
If elytra are harder to come by, other transport options become instantly more viable. For the first few weeks I did hold off on using elytra for that reason as well. Mainly when building the canals and such. But, I also don't think that imposing some artifical constraints on getting them is reasonable either.
Artifical as a personal choice for emersion are a different matter, I do admire your dedication to sticking to other modes of transport in that regard :)
My problem with not using an elytra is that my projects tend to take up so much time, and I often forget things I need, so for efficiency, I fly almost everywhere. I'll even fly short distances, like inside the storage depot, just to get to the chests I need. But then sometimes I'll just sit in one spot and stare at chests until I remember what I came for anyway, so I kinda need to make up lost time any way I can. XD
Edit: See!
Transport favorites (in CM)
Aviate 954,178,502
Walk 219,247,540
Edit 2: Dang! Just shy of 1,000,000,000!!!
There is also a flying stat, not quite sure what makes it different from aviate, but that might pull you over.
If we are adding to reasons for flying, with DH I plain love soaring high above the clouds and seeing parts of the world peek through. Even with all the imperfections of DH rendering, I love sights like these
edit:
Some conflicting information about the flying stat, but it seems to be a collection of things like jump sprinting and also things like creative and spectator flying. The latter two don't make sense for most people though, it would for Tea and me when doing ops stuff (following shady folks in specator mode).
No wonder Tea routinely appeared behind me! He was there the whole time!
Yeah, I just embraced the inefficiency as I would forget supplies and have to do multiple trips. However, I tended to do more smaller scale projects than you (or at least more iterative). I could see for something like the mall that having to make that journey by horse for supplies would get tiresome.
Bah! I knew this would happen if I got below 15 days played!
A wonderful season, an amazing time. And a obligated bow to @TaylorSwiftsPickles for beating me in the unannounced, but understand, contest for the Most Played on the Playtime Tracker! A worthy opponent to whom I am honored to be defeated.
The one upside of a shutdown is that I can actually be done with anything. So, expect a showcase of my Nile build soon.
A showcase of the Step Pyramid of Djan-Ra!
Most of the description is on imgur, but a few notes:
I'd like to make a quick post about my longtime build near spawn that I've been working on little by little since the first day of the server (and finally just finished before the end of the world). The main inspiration for the build was to accentuate all the light rays from the new mod packs I installed. Once the main hall was built I needed something to fill it, so I added a two tier pale oak. The open roof allows rain to fall down into the hall for extra ambiance.
I clear cut the top of the cliff and landscaped pretty extensively. I made a fun before and after to show how much the terrain line changed. It allowed me to make some fun paths through the property including this cozy pond area.
Also loved building this townhouse. The rooftop patio had some pretty nice views once the modern district filled in.
Thank you Tea for hosting the server and thanks to everyone who made this community a joy to play with :D
I am jealous of your complete before screenshot. I never think of taking screenshots of an area until I have already started work on the area (or once I am finished)
I go on holiday and this is what I return to?! All kidding aside, I think it is the right call as activity has died down considerably. It has been a blast though! Thank you everyone!
#BlamePickles
I've been a busy bee finishing up projects recently, I highly recommend a visit to the mall and the airport before server shutdown! The mall is officially complete (unless someone wants to add cars to the garage), and the airport is very close (one more hangar available unless I get to it first). I did expand the Hall of Heroes as well with the intention of adding a few people (notably, I wanted to include a statue of @eyechoirs who was unable to continue playing with us).
Edit: I made a video showcasing the Hall of Heroes as it currently exists. There are several notable names still missing including @hamstergeddon @dhcrazy333 and @zatamzzar to name a few (but anyone may still claim a spot). I already expanded the hall to include 6 new spaces this morning and 3 have since been filled. I can expand tomorrow again if necessary. Tagging @Positive (and kids) @chewonbananas @Arknata @faye_luna @Nankeru as they now have statues.
Edit2: Expanded the hall! Come pick a spot!
Edit3: @creesch and I filled in a bunch more statues for people! Be sure to check it out when the world download is available (or if you can get on today before shutdown)! I also just uploaded a village of Santa's Raceway Village, unfortunately the water elevator started giving me issues again. I was able to get a successful run on the racetrack for the video, but I don't think it's 100% reliable.
Double-wielded diamond swords? For me? Lol thanks for adding me! Sad I can't play MC anymore but glad I got to play when I did.
I was trying to think of how to pose your armor stand, and I thought of the PvP arena you built, so I decided dual swords would be appropriate! If you want me to build an idea of your own instead, I can absolutely change it for you!
Edit: Also, I've continued following your YouTube channel(which I hope you dont mind I promote a little!), even though a lot of it goes over my head. You introduced me to KGLW, which is my new favorite band! So thanks for that!
I saw earlier that you took care of my clone gang :P
Yeah, had to fight my way out! They almost killed me!
Finished that last hangar we talked about yesterday! inside look.
Awesome! I decided not to build another one and just put up some For Sale signs. Glad you were able to make another one instead!
Also realized I had not build an airplane on the airfield yet. So I fixed that as well:
I will second the recommendation to visit the airport and mall. Lots of nice little details throughout both builds.
I'd like to get a spot in the hall of heroes. What do I need to do?
I'll need to hop into the mall before it shuts down. Wouldn't mind claiming a spot in the Hall of Heroes if you don't mind helping out! I never actually learned how to stage the characters.
Sure! Hop on! I'm here now.
Also pinging @Noox and @Felicity [img] as well as @Zzotto [img], as I wanted to make sure they're included. We're still missing some folks but yeah.
Ohhh thanks! I'll try Nd hop on tomorrow for a bit yeH :) otherwise, will just join in again when the new world goes up :D
That is so sweet!!
It really sucks that I couldn't stick around for longer than I did, it was a really nice way to spend some time relaxing. Hopefully life finally settles down in a few months because I definitely want to try and hop on again for a fresh world.
I can't speak for anyone else but I missed you dearly and I do hope you can finally get back online with us next season :)
I accidentally broke Felicity's, but I repaired it as close to original as I could. Whoopsie!
What must I do to claim a spot?
If you want me to make the statue for you, I just need your player head (have someone kill you or kill yourself by shooting up with a bow), and a description of what you want your statue to look like. If you want to make it yourself, just log in and pick an empty spot and go for it. I'm online now if you want help as well.
Well, standing on the porch of my first house I just logged off for the last time on this itteration of the server. See you all next season!
I had a similar moment on my fishing dock at the cabana. It's been a pleasure. I'm excited to join the next iteration. :)
Season 2 world download file
Tea is away on a trip and asked me to create the torrent. Something I haven't done before, but I know how to google, so hopefully it all works ;)

I am currently seeding and will leave my PC on for the night.
World info
I already moved everything so that you can run copy it in your own minecraft saves and load the world. On loading it will say something about experimental features, just accept it (probably the datapacks).
If you want to use commands and creative you need to open up the world to local lan and select the option to allow commands when you do so.
Fun stuff
There is also a directory called "stats" which appears to be player stats in json format. The name of the files is your minecraft UUID which you can find easily like on this website. I learned that I was very stubborn and have been killed 5 times by a warden, but it was zombies (74) who killed me most. Aside from players, but those also do include suicides to get my own head. Some fun stuff in there, if I have some more time I might put together some nice dashboard for all these things.
Created a quick and dirty dashboard just throw the JSON file in there and you get some stats that are mostly right :P
Let me know if the torrent works.
First time creating and seeding a torrent, seems easy enough aside from finding public trackers but people already track trackers so that also turned out to be easy.
Few random pings for people who probably are eager to download the world file
@GravySleeve, @Mendanbar, @Nankeru, @TaylorSwiftsPickles, @j0hn1215
Just started my download and it found a peer. No data yet though, but I'll give it time. These things can be tricksy.
Edit: never mind, the peer went away :( I'll leave it running a few hours and see what happens, I'm not showing seeders either
Edit: 3 of us now, and I'm at 43%
Edit: Got it! Seeding at quite the lick right now, my upstream is maxed out, lol. Enjoy
I say we should put it up as a web downloadable file and practically DDOS Tea's VPS
Yeah... it is almost 50gb, I did consider hosting it as a download for a second but figured I'd give torrents a go first.
I changed some network settings and am now seeing someone, which I assume is you, downloading it :)
yea I just checked back and I have some transfer going on. I have 100MB upstream so I'll leave it seeding as long as I can once it's here
If anyone doesn't have the knowledge or time to set anything up with torrents, you can also download the world file using:
=> World file direct download
Hint: You can also download the file and then seed it to help out with the torrent.
Thank you so much for setting it up and sharing it!
Seeding now~
If anyone wants it that doesn't want to deal with a torrent client directly, it is already cached on TorBox. https://torbox.app/quickadd?magnet=bWFnbmV0Oj94dD11cm46YnRpaDo4MWNiNDY2YzlhN2NkOTZkZDc4ZjM0MDkzNDZkMTYwZWIyNDhiOGUwJmRuPXRpbGRlc19zdXJ2aXZhbF9zZWFzb24y is the direct link to getting access to it there, although presumably you'd need an account (although a free one should work) to get it from there. For I think the next 30 days or so it could be downloaded from there without needing to directly set up torrents yourself.
TorBox is a debriding service. This basically just means they'll convert things like torrents to regular web downloads by downloading to their cache and then providing CDN links to the file in their cache. I was surprised to see it was already cached there. If it wasn't I was planning to cache it and let it seed from TorBox too as that would keep a seed online for 30 days, but since I didn't trigger the download I don't know whether or not TorBox is seeding it.
If anyone wants a direct web download link so that they don't need a TorBox account I can send them out. The only reason I'm not just posting one directly is that my understanding is that links expire an hour after creation so it makes more sense to send them out as requested than just post one that'll expire shortly anyway.
Can someone reseed the torrent please? My 10 year old external died sometime over the weekend, and I didn't have a chance to back up the file. :V
@Gravysleeve or anyone else that wants the world download for the first iteration of the tildes server.
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:bad391ec3126be963dd5b4416a6afa015086dcc5&dn=tildes_survival_season_1
I'll be seeding again once I get home, last time I checked there were several people still seeding though.
@creesch, @GravySleeve, @mintysaurus if yall keep seeding for the next day or so while my seedbox grabs a copy, I'll keep it running 24/7 to accommodate future downloads. I've got one seeder at the moment, but obviously not sure who.
Edit: Actually, all good here. Download is done and it's now available on the seedbox :)
I went and used MCA selector on my download without thinking about making a copy, so I can't seed anymore. But I was considering making a post stating I could make a torrent for this version of the world if anyone wanted a significantly smaller download (~9-10GB). I just deleted most of the end as well as overworld chunks with less than 5 minutes of activity.
If you end up doing that, tag me and I'll seed it on the seedbox as well. Also I'd love to see if we can get the first season's world up there as well.
Do these deleted chunks render back as before or are there any discontinuation artifacts due to the datapack we used?
As long as the Terralith data pack is installed, they should render exactly as they normally would since the seed is the same. The only thing that might get missed would be small quick changes people made to a chunk as they passed through. If more than 5 minutes was spent in the chunk it doesn't get deleted. I also refrained from deleting any chunks at all for a good distance around town just in case.
Edit: And to clarify the Terralith datapack is included with the download, creesch has it all set up so the single player experience will be identical to how things worked on the server.
Almost identical, no server plugins so no EAS stick that works :( Datapacks appear to work as far as I can tell, but I only tested simple things like the concrete cauldron thing. Not if terralith works entirely as expected.
I've been using terralith in a new single player world, I think it should run fine with the server world.
Edit: Didn't realize no EAS stick, that's disappointing.
I found a mod that does work a little bit like EAS, but it isn't nearly as smooth and convient when you are combining stands.
Both of them work by ctrl+right clicking on statues. Which is annoying with overlapping statues and where I am really missing EAS. Having said that, the work around I use is by just selecting one statue, move that a set amount up or to the side, then select the second one, see if that is the correct one, etc. It is a bit clunky but still better than just using the book.
I am now seeding again.
I just left the house for work, but I can seed again in around 7ish hours.
Can you keep it on for a bit longer? I changed some network settings and think it should be working now.
Thank you kindly!
This is fun! Any reason why my name wouldn't be in there? I searched "GravySleeve" and nothing came up.
Oh yeah! All over that!
Looking it up your UUID is
67eba44d-7c82-432b-9481-3ff65aeb1a16
and the json file with that name certain is in there. Some random facts, you killed 104 trader llama's, I suspect while wrangling them you got killed 71 times by warden's and once by a elder guardian.
Edit: I threw together a quick dashboard with some LLM help. I went over the code and fixed a bunch of obvious and silly errors but it still isn't perfect probably. But, it is fun to look at!
https://www.creesch.com/mc_stats/
Just throw in the contents of the JSON file you want. Here is a screenshot of your stats.
If I have some more time today I'll see about doing a full dashboard for all players with their usernames.
Very cool idea! The dashboard isn't working for me though, clicking on a player doesn't do anything for me. Not sure what's up with that. But it's wild looking through that screenshot to see how some of my stats came out, in particular it seems especially odd that I somehow used a Brewing Stand more than a Stonecutter? I used a stonecutter for almost every project I built, the brewing stands uses were basically only for making the splash potions for the silverfish xp farms. I guess I spent more time on those than I realized.
Edit: Strange, if I click the link in the comment I'm replying to the dashboard doesn't work, if I use the link you edited into your original comment, it works.
lol, sorry. initially you had to paste in your own data, while you were trying it out I was updating the thing so you can click on the usernames.
It should now just work ;)
I think @mintysaurus was a big help with seeding last time if I recall correctly? Sorry if wrong. :P
That's a lot of pings I didn't respond to, so I will respond to them all here. :3
Thank you @teaearlgraycold for hosting again.
@GravySleeve I did not mind you changing anything about the noodle shop.
Ditto @creesch on thanking literally everyone that played on any version of the minecraft server :>
Thank you @creesch for the cool video and the cool screenshots of my area on bluemap.
I will probably seed this torrent forever.
Thank you! I'm on vacation and I can't download something of that size now! But I really want to later
Hi!
Just wanted to share this with you. I was checking the world download to see if I missed any builds on the far edges and came across your kingdom. I also noticed your old bridge and had an idea and made some modifications just to see how it would turn out.
Figured you might appreciate it. Or possibly are screaming at your screen "what have you done with my build?!", in that case apologies ;)
that's pretty cool :)
Did you see the video I made of the mall to see the changes, or see it in game perhaps before shutdown? I tried to change it as little as possible. I duplicated the Artisan Noodles sign and put one on each side of the stall, then added signs so it says Noodle Palace. The name fit the space perfectly, plus I felt it was a nice homage to the Fresh Breath Kingdom.
Do you still have the first server world available to seed? I wouldn't mind downloading it again if possible. I made changes to my original download, plus it's on my laptop which I've loaned out to a friend.
Thanks for the heads up. Currently downloading and I plan to seed for at least several days.
I am doing a bunch of recordings of the awesome places on the server.
So far I have the following:
All of these builds are of course best explored in game, but I figured I'd record them for people who don't want to bother with the world files but still walk down memory lane at some point. They aren't all of the quality I'd like either, but still fairly decent, I wanted to make sure to record as much as possible which limits how much time I can spend on recording takes.
I want to do some recordings of some other places as well and will be adding them as replies to this comment.
@TaylorSwiftsPickles requested to be sealed in her own brain within bedrock. So, I obliged, but of course I wouldn't be a good
deityOP if I didn't try to make it a nice prisonAnd most importantly...
I guess I went radio silent again. I didn't finish putting together the furnace new array, instead getting stuck in design hell trying to figure out item transport systems that were fast enough in both item input and output. But I don't need to end this world on the thing I didn't do, because I did do stuff on this world.
Things I did end up building:
If I learned anything from this world it's "don't burn yourself out, you silly person". I tried to do a lot given the little time I was setting aside, and it got to the point where I just wasn't having fun. It was great popping on again relatively recently to see all of the progress and new things people have built. Thank you to everyone, you've been great and I look forward to playing with you all again in the future.
I've finally done it, a video tour of the completed mall! This is the project I'm most proud of on the server, especially the working Zultar machine (rebranded as Xultar in-game). Check it out, especially if you haven't seen it in game before! Thanks to everyone who contributed shops, it was tons of fun having a group project for everyone to join if they wanted! Stay until the very end for the credits list.
u/teaearlgraycold Thank you for hosting the server as always!
It was a pleasure hopping on, using the server as a glorified chatroom, and being a freeloader that took resources from the community farms for the last year. Glad I got to be there for the ending of the server, didn't expect it to just abruptly end though haha. Thank you to whoever put me in the Hall of Heroes, I am genuinely touched to be included. It was cool seeing everyone on the server in this world for the last time!
I know it's been a really long time since I've hopped on but seeing this has given me the motivation to finally try and get distant horizons running again so I can hop on one last time before the server shuts down.
My play time fell off but I had a lot of fun with everyone! I'm proud I got to finish the lava lamp and the museum was mostly filled out on floors 1 and 2. Thanks, all! I appreciate everyone's help and kindness this season. Until the next one!
Grabbed a screenshot of the gang enjoying the fireworks in celebration of the closure :)
I got video!
Nice OS
Been working out nicely for me so far!
Agh, wish I had noticed you were together, I would've loved to join!
I feel like we just got "Look at the bunnies, George"'d at the end there...distracted by the fireworks. But haha it was a lovely fireworks show and glad I got to go down with the ship with the rest of yall. See you all next weekend for the survival run :)
Oh, no! I thought we had until normal restart time! I logged in for maybe ten seconds before it shut down.
I didn't get a chance to entomb myself in the pyramid! I guess my spirit will be lost forever in the void....
If it makes you feel any better, when you download the world you'll start at spawn anyway! Sorry you missed out, I hopped back on for just a few seconds after everyone got kicked, just in case it was on my end, and saw you hop on! We had fireworks in town, but I recorded them!
I think that is because the playerdata isn't included. I am currently doing a little bit of sleuthing to investigate what files @teaearlgraycold might want to include in the world download for a slightly more complete experience.
For example, when I discovered bluemap I managed to get it running on an offline world. So I am thinking of writing up instructions on how to do that so that with the configuration files people can also have their own bluemap instance running.
Although I might just host bluemap myself without a server running (I know for a fact that is possible) so people can still explore without having to wrangle the offline files.
edit: I think that data might actually have been included last time as well? Anyway, I just did the work to combine everything in a offline save file and spawned where I logged off.
I feel pretty certain that last time, when I downloaded the world, I started at spawn with no inventory.
Maybe tea removed the playerdata directory for some reason. When I did download the backup and converted it I did spawn properly.
Also, the fireworks was still going ;) That was nice to see.
I was just thinking about the fireworks last night as I was going to sleep! Everyone who downloads the world and runs to town center can see what was left in the show. :D
You must have missed the push notification!
Our 3 day hardcore server will be running 1.21.8, so get your mods ready before we go live next Friday.
GD Launcher only going to 1.21.7 unless I enable snapshots. I don't follow versions much, should I be seeing 1.21.8?
It was basically released yesterday and seems to be a bugfix release for 1.21.7.
So I am going on vacation today so will no longer be playing on the server. I got my projects to a state that I am happy with, where nothing feels incomplete. I recommend others to take the time to explore my base before shutdown or with the world download, as I have hidden lots of secrets throughout my base.
Unlike Bront, I do not have screenshots of the terrain before I started building, but I do have an early build screenshot. Here it is when I just finished the first phase of the build. Here it is once completed (from a different angle, and running the fog mod that I now normally play with)
Both links go to the same (before) picture
Not sure how I messed that up, and am currently away from a computer for the foreseeable future. Unless someone else comments a screenshot, I guess people will have to log on to view it
I took some screenshots for you!
Tagging @Macha to see the build as it looks currently.
Thanks, these look great. Also, you took more screenshots than I did
I don't really have any ongoing projects I want to finish. The pirate island would've been nice, but I think it was too big a project for me to do. Maybe I'll try again on the next server.
I've been toying with the idea of accepting my lack of design skills and just embracing the use of premade designs and schematics. I've got the vision for big projects (like pirate island), but not the eye for the individual pieces of said vision. Or I could spend the time away brushing up on getting better in creative. Then use schematics to bring them over. Lots to think about :)
I have two thoughts here:
As far as the second point goes. What helps for me here is breaking builds up in smaller chunks that can stand on their own. The airfield is a bit of an exception there, since I needed to clear cut and level the entire area (thankfully gravy did help out there a ton). But, after that I was able to just do one thing at the time. First layout, then fill in the pavement, then do individual buildings. But, again, since I couldn't see the finish line it did burn me out to some degree which makes me extremely thankful that Gravy offered to help out with buildings.
The airport is maybe the only thing I really did try to plan as much and where I fell for the trap of scoping too big for me. With other bigger builds I avoid this by working from a more general idea I have in mind and then execute on it one thing at the time.
I think one good example here, since it resembles your pirate island somewhat, is my mad scientist research base.
And for a complete overview I just recorded a walkthrough the entire base because I thought that would be fun ;)
The point I am trying to make here (besides secretly showing off the build :P) is that I did most things one at the time and made sure to finish them to a reasonable degree. There is more I had wanted to do eventually, but I am okay with the state it is in as it doesn't feel unfinished. For example, I had wanted to do some more weathering on the base in general. It is very clean but eventually I had wanted to look it a bit older, inspired by DHARMA Initiative research stations from Lost. I also wanted to expand the aquarium more, make it deeper and actually expand the eyes into a real monster.
The tl;dr of it is that, for me, it works to tackle bigger builds in bite sized chunks. And, also just go for smaller builds in between.
A trick I did was bounce between personal and community projects. When I was unsure what to do on my personal project I worked on a community project. When my inspiration was fuzzy for a personal project, I would google similar builds (both in mc and irl) to help guide me.
Excluding what's already been described, I'd say also consider my own style (which, in this server, I've only used at my mall shops, because the rest of my builds this season were organics - sadly). My actual style, which I intend to use next season, is what I would describe as photorealism.
In essence, what I tend to do is replicate real world structures, objects, and occurences with as much detail and "life" as possible within minecraft's constraints. This is usually done using a combination of image searches, google maps (both satellite view and street view), or even other sources.
My most recent example of this, pre-season-2, was building various landmarks and important streets of the city centre of my home city, in 1:2 scale (survival mode!), to the degree that if you were using shaders you'd originally assume you're being shown a real-world picture before realising it's actually in minecraft. This even included the actual contents of museums, which, yes, I actually visited and noted down the floor plan and the location and look of each exhibit in very quick notes :P It did take me many months to finish that. More than a year of casual playing.
I do enjoy this build style a lot, personally, and I also find it a lot easier than making things up from amalgamations of reference images or from your own imagination.
Nooooo! Build your skills! If you ever feel stuck with something design-wise, ask for help, or a nice trick I use is to find a reference image online for what you want to build and try to copy it!
Ah well now I have to build the skills :) Don't suppose you know of any good Minecraft YouTubers that might be worth checking out? My kids watch a few, but I need something quieter...
Etho's Lab, xbCrafted in terms of quieter.
I'd watch Bdouble0100, he's the hermit that the other hermits consider the "master builder", but also PearlescentMoon and SmallishBeans are some of my favorite builders among the hermits this season. Keralis also has some amazing builds and so does MumboJumbo.
Seconding bdubs. He's also just really entertaining to watch. He has a recent video where he translates a sketch into a Minecraft build. It's a really good watch.
Also seconding Keralis because his builds are always very practical. I've picked up a lot of great detailing tips from him.
Also, there's no harm in using schematics and other designs. I've found that using schematics is a way to get familiar with building and slowly build the skills needed to "freestyle".
Couple of things from playing this evening:
@GravySleeve was kind enough to help me cement my place in the Hall of Heroes.
I recorded a short video of the view from my Zeppelin
It was a great time - I enjoyed every single minute on the server and every interaction I had!
Wish there would be a "read-only" version that we can still join and explore (or a world download?).
Especially to have more time to explore everything on the server and to archive all the amazing creative creations on the server.
Any possibilities to do that?
Will surely miss all our cats and dogs. You will be remembered and live on in our memories. :3
Tea will make the world download available a short time after server shutdown!
Just found the Hall of Heroes is full again! Thanks I suspect to @TaylorSwiftsPickles! I'm working on expanding it again currently so there's still time to claim a spot!
Edit: The Hall has been expanded again.
Wow, they make statues so realistic nowadays
Amazing!
Wow, they even TALK!
I hear the animations are extremely realistic as well.
I've seen a couple of posts where people are lamenting the loss of their partial builds. It gave me an interesting (and possibly foolish) idea:
I would be happy to offer my Litematica services to save builds from the current server and possibly transfer them to any new servers.
I think this might be very dependent on the build itself. A house made of beacons and netherite might be a tall order for a new server build. Barring any outlandish requests, though, I'm happy to help out where I can. If interested, I think I would at minimum need coordinates for where the build is located prior to server shutdown so I can find it after the world file becomes available.
I only played here for a few weeks, but it was a lot of fun! Hope to see you all again sometime in the future!
Shutting down in 30 minutes! Come on in to see the fireworks.
Edit: That's all, folks
Curious what the last message on the server ever was? My logs shall provide the answer...
[04:31:47] [Render thread/INFO]: [CHAT] <GravySleeve> there were just a bunch of us on
See you all in a few months!
Yeah, we all got kicked, and I wanted to be sure it wasn't just me. I managed to reconnect for just a few seconds before getting kicked again, and during those few seconds John hopped on. That message was for him.
@mintysaurus while playing around with bluemap offline I spotted your kingdom
A few more:
Man, I never had a chance to finish my "built into the cliff" hotel thing.
Thanks tea! Was nice seeing the state of the server while I had a chance. Hard mode zombies are annoying! Good job @GravySleeve on the impromptu fireworks setup!
How long will you last in hardcore mode? :P
I'll be fine. Just need a shotgun.
Does anyone have a render of their entire xareos map? Bluemap was great, but I'd love to see as whole a picture of the world as possible.
I don't have a render right now, but I think my Xaero map would have been one of the most detailed ones available as I went all the way to the world border in a few different directions. It's absolutely not full, but I'll post a render of it as soon as I download the world when it's available.
I am in the process of rendering bluemap locally for the entire map and will post a bitmap version of the entire thing when it is done.
edit:
While doing that, I also found that bluemap has a setting similar to how dynmap was set on last season. Only render chunks explored by players. Personally I think it would be fun to do that next season.
But all overworld chunks are pre-generated to avoid causing unnecessary load on the server - won't that affect the results?
Dunno
Huh, looks like tea didn't prerender the whol world. Didn't check for the end, but that also explains the lag we would in the end (pun intended) when collecting elytra as the server likely was rendering chunks. This also means that DH really renders chunks independently from minecraft, which is just an interesting tidbit of information.
I am going to play around with chunky for a bit and see if I can get a complete map.
What's the range on that? I think I'm "counting" 10000 blocks on each side?
The world border was at 16000 blocks
The radius based on the upper left corner is 16254 blocks
I think we tried to prerender the whole world at first but it was too much for the server to handle, so he cut it back.
Could be yeah, I just finished rendering the entire world and it is taking up a massive amount of space :D
Good news: If you open the world and you have Xaero's installed, it will actually (slowly) render out the entire map for you. So you won't need my own!
Is there a mod pack or mod list I need at the server side to play the downloaded world?
No, the server never had anything that required client side mods. All the relevant datapacks are included in the world download.
All you need to do is place the downloaded world directory in your minecraft saves directory.
If you are prism launcher it is easy enough to find it:
folder
, this will open the folder for that instance.minecraft
->saves
. This is the directory where your various saves are.tildes_survival_season2
folder to this directoryI know what I'm doing
and you should be good to go!The process will be slightly different if you use the vanilla launcher or any other launcher. But that is mostly in finding the
saves
directory, the other steps are the same.Of course you are free to install any mods you like ;)
*Checks calendar, checks server, still offline.... I know it is still morning over there so I am probably impatient. Also, knowing my track record I'll just die within the hour or so.
I woke up late :P
Make sure to update the DH plugin, otherwise it isn't compatible with the 1.21.8 version of the mod.
I guess I should now really look at updating web chat to newer minecraft.
I'm just not including DH
also works. For people trying to update their mods through prism, you might want to first update to 1.21.7, check for mod updates, then do 1.21.8 and check for updates again. Mods for 1.21.7 likely will also work for 1.21.8 but the launcher will not recognize that.
Pfff, and now you are kicking me from the server even. Rude!
Interestingly enough DH thought it was the same server (makes sense) so I saw the old buildings appear and then fade out of view. Interesting experience.
Sadly won't be able to really join as I won't have much time both tomorrow and on Sunday. So good luck to whoever joins!
Doesn't matter, tea is being mean and not lotting anyone else play. Clearly not at all just taking his time setting up the server properly and me just being an impatient brat.
edit:
Just realized I could just add myself back to the whitelist... But I'll behave and let tea does his thing.
What a meanie
We have a set start time sir.
tbh, completely missed that post. I guess I can wait a few more minutes and get a few minutes of play in before having to log off :P
