Tildes Minecraft Survival Bi-Weekly Thread
Server host: tildes.nore.gg
Dynmap: https://tildes.nore.gg
Playtime counter: https://tildes.nore.gg/playtimes.html
Verification site: https://verify.tildes.nore.gg
Tildes website extension (show online status): Firefox - Chrome
The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
Also, it's Thanksgiving here in the US, and I'd just like to say that I'm thankful for this community, and the larger community of tildes in general. While I'm still a bit new, I've had some real meaningful interactions, and it's been a lot of fun. ❤️
I'm grateful too, because even though I haven't been on much, whenever I do get on, I'm still greeted like I've been there all along. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming ◠ω◠
I was on yesterday and there were 10 others online at the same time at one point. I was in town harvesting some spruce when a group ran by and one stopped to greet me with the traditional Minecraft crouch-crouch-crouch. It brought a smile to my IRL face. 😀
New thread, new rail stations!
I've extended the Cherry Line (change from Birch Line at TildeTown West) north to the iron farm and then the witch farm, with an interchange and minor station at the snowy beach.
Next up is the northern fork which will go to the raid farm.
Thanks to @GravySleeve for a donation of cherry logs since I go through a lot of those while building out, a full chest covers a little over 400 blocks.
I made a Firefox extension (here) that will show players' online activity (screenshot) and link you to their location on the dynmap!
I tested this out yesterday and it works great!
I’ll have a slick new version out soon that will only show the online/offline indicators for Tildes users that have logged into the server before.
Maybe clicking on the extensions icon could make it show a GUI with a list of everyone online.
I was thinking it would match the format of the TAB screen, that being (Player Head) (Username), though it could also be (Player Head) (~ Username) (MC Username)
Maybe it could even send a notification if a certain player comes online, the GUI could also have themes, basically all the themes that tildes offers.
FWIW, dynmap does show the players currently online :)
Jumped into the server finally and I am just in awe at the things people have built. Was not expecting a full on metro system with multiple lines. Walked around Tildetown and its just amazing. Are people just allowed to build anywhere once they gain access?
Pretty much. Just make sure no one is building there already. Some spots in town never got finished and I think it would be fair to commandeer them. You could ask an old timer in game for more information.
Cool, thanks!
I wanted to share something I happened to film whilst on a trainride from the Guardian Farm to the Deep Peaks station! The sun happened to be setting and it was a very nice moment I think.
Here's the YouTube link!
My computer nearly cried just watching that. I play on like the lowest settings. :(
Edit: Thanks for all the advice. I'm all decked out with mods and it does make a huge difference! I found a modpack (Fabulously Optimized) using CurseForge that has a bunch of performance stuff prepackaged so I've got Fabric with Sodium/Indium as well as a bunch of other mods that seem to be a mix of optimizations like ModernFix/ImmediatelyFast and added features like LambDynamicLights and Continuity. I also added a few extra mods to the pack that were recommended here, @bendvis is right Inventory Profiles Next is awesome, I love how when you are building with a block and you run out of a stack it will replace the empty slot with more of that block from your inventory if you have them. And of course I had to add Xaero's Minimap/WorldMap to it also.
What @Mendanbar says Gravy - if you add a modloader like Fabric or Forge, there's usually a packaged 'performance optimisers' that you can download. It's optifine for Forge, but Fabric has its own (can't recall the name but it should be easily Google-able).
I'll echo Mendanbar as well and say that my fabric setup allows for a much higher FPS, even though I play with super heavy shader extras like Rain puddles + far reaching object shadows etc.
You should give it a shot!!
The shaders I use is Complementary Reimagined, and it's actually more 1) lightweight than other shaders, 2) more faithful to vanilla (e.g. the blocks don't change much but I add a little more texture to like wood blocks usually) and 3) suuuper customisable.
Just tried out those shaders. These are some mighty fine pixels! Especially love the caustics underwater.
You should visit the ancient city. I was just there and the skulk looks amazing with these shaders.
I tried out those Complimentary Reimagined shades and it worked fine, but to me everything seemed way too bright. I loved how things looked in dark places though. I just couldn't figure out if there was a setting that might dial it back a bit.
Glad to hear it's working well! There's definitely options to tone down the brightness (or turn it up), I'll check in my settings when I'm on the server in a bit :)
I also use Builder's QoL Shaders for a lightweight experience, so that might be worth a look. The latest release is for 1.19.3, but I'm using it in 1.20 with no issues.
I use Sodium. I think there might be other performance mods, but I haven't found any that make as dramatic a difference as Sodium. Fabric itself is a great improvement over Vanilla, though.
Thanks for calling out the shaders. I had tried the regular Complimentary shaders and found them to be too resource heavy, but the reimagined variety runs great on my machine!
Depending on your hardware you may be able to run shaders with fabric/iris. My computer chokes when I try to run shaders with forge/optifine, but I get more than 80fps with fabric/iris shaders. 🤷♂️
I love the aurora shader
I was not expecting the Aurora Borealis, that was awesome. What shaders do you use?
Complementary Reimagined, with most of the settings on Fantasy mode :D
Highly recommend Continuity https://modrinth.com/mod/continuity for connected textures :)
This mod coupled with the Stay True resource pack is fantastic.
Someone asked a long time ago for a command that will allow you to look up a player's Tildes username given their in-game name (because all you see above their head is the in-game name).
So here it finally is:
/fakename <player>
(the opposite of/realname <nickname>
)YES! That was me! Thanks Tea :D!
I've decided to build Advancement Island. It's next to the huge iron farm. Just a place to build stuff to fill out advancements. If you have any you want to add, please do so
I'm out traveling this week but brought my laptop so I can hop on and see the holiday decorations. The mention of them in the last thread inspired me to put up the decorations at my IRL house, so I've been busy. 🙂
I'm wondering what fun/"essential" mods everyone plays with. Ofc they'll be performance, aesthetics, or client side utility mods, but I just found a mod that makes the elytra flight more airplane-like, and while it takes some getting used to, it's super fun to just explore and fly around. The mod is called Do a barrel roll and it's for fabric, and works on 1.20.2!
The one I've become fully dependent on is Inventory Profiles Next. Hit R to sort your inventory or a chest, depending on what you have open. It also includes some other tweaks like using the mouse wheel to scroll individual items in or out of a chest. Similarly, Shulker Box Tooltip will let you peek into boxes in your inv without having to place them. Lighty shows me which blocks are spawnable, making spawnproofing less tedious. Iris/Sodium/Indium add shader compatibility and boost performance a more than Optifine does in most cases. I have to mention Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map also, for obvious reasons. :)
I posted my personal list on a previous thread, but the combo of ambient sounds/continuity/stay true along with shaders is really nice. Even without shaders the connected textures really improve the look of builds.
A few more thoughts about rail lines:
There's a (to my knowledge unnamed) station on the Birch Line between spawn and TildeTown West (at 260, -103), and I'm not sure if there's anyone using it. Due to it being relatively close to the other two stops and not having much activity right by it I'm inclined to close it and remove the stop. There's also a small junction on the spawn side of that station for an "under construction" tunnel that I don't think has been touched in the past couple of months that I'm planning to remove regardless. I don't want to mess up anyone else's experience but I would like to clean up that stretch of the line since it's often one of the first parts newcomers to the server will see.
Following up on the junction I made for the northern end of the Cherry Line I think it would be nice to have automatic transfers between lines so you wouldn't need to leave your minecart to change between the Birch/Cherry Lines (at TildeTown West) or Birch/Sandstone Lines (TildeTown South Station). That will probably require some restructuring of the stations to move things around and make it work but it should be more convenient overall once finished.
I genuinely don't know if this will work but I started on an in-game map of the rail lines using a pixel art style that could ideally be posted at each station once finished. Need to add a few map markers to see how it looks first and then if that's good go through with it.
ooh I love your map, I hope it ends up working well in game! It's def got that classic look on the web version of the map at least.
I've got a bunch of projects I have planned, but I'd be happy to help with the work if we end up on at the same time.
Idk what blocks you're using but if you need stone or cobblestone I have a few shulkers worth of each.
Thanks for the offer, I had enough on my own to handle it.
Like what Oslypsis offered, I also have a lot of cobblestone if you need it.
Oooo that's so awesome Duri! I love the map!
@Positive did you see this? :D
Alright, the Lights Out game is functioning, but it doesn't have a building yet so be careful at night, or in other words, when the lights go out. I also made a little clock tower by the town hall with a bell that will theoretically ring at Minecraft noon each in-game day.
The clock tower is great! I got to hear it chime just as I got to the nether portal.
Hey thanks! Sometimes it's inordinately satisfying to get the little touches just right.
Shoutout to Evie (don't know their Tildes username) for showing me their giant dirt pit and teaching me how to use the wings and fireworks to fly around. They called the big thing in the pit the South Tower, IIRC.
Only popped in for a few minutes to check out the latest progress and there's been a huge amount of it. Very cool!
You do! It's @Evie. Pretty much all in-game names are Tildes usernames. If the name is white that's the exception.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the build! I've made a lot more progress on it, hope you'll come by again one of these days :)
Hey all! I've got a redstone project I'm working on that I need a small bit of help with if someone is good with that sort of thing. I have used noteblocks to create a secret song for my nature path, but the problem is I can't figure out the best way to activate the loop in the way I want. Basically I want to push a button to have the song start to loop and when you press the same button again the loop will end. Seems like a simple problem but I can't figure out the best way to make it happen. Everything I'm trying either just doesn't work or causes the song to play over itself.
Edit 2: Thanks so much @Oslypsis!!!! I would never have figured that out! Now I can copy it and make more if I want!!!
You're very welcome! I don't consider myself a redstoner, but I do want to try to learn it, as it's the only part of the game I don't know yet. I'm also going to shout out MumboJumbo from youtube here on the tildes thread, too, as I needed his ... um... "button makes a one pulse instead of two" design. Lol
Ha, I just watched that video a couple of days ago. 😂
Sounds like you need a t flip flop circuit to me, though it's hard to say for sure without seeing it. I always defer to Mumbo Jumbo for things such as these.
I found this video, but it is 6 years old so some designs may not work or have better alternatives today
Kinda, the issue is I need to just send a pulse to start the note block circuit and T-Flip Flops produce constant power when they are on. I need to send one quick pulse which will start the note block circuit and then have a way for the same button to interrupt that pulse and stop the music loop.
You need a monostable circuit, many ways to have that from a flip flop. The start button could also activate a piston to cut off the note block circuit for enough time to handle any part of the music loop.
Hmm, I think that might do it, or at least get me closer. I'll have another try at it soon.
Edit: I have no clue how to get this to do what I want. I can follow along with videos on making redstone contraptions, but figuring them out fresh on my own I'm no good. If anyone wouldn't mind lending their expertise, please feel free to take a peek at 962, 216.
Redstone can go through blocks, so if you face a piston upward so its flush with the ground when unpowered, then put sand/gravel/concrete powder on it, then invert the piston's signal, a button activation will then briefly drop the sand, activating the redstone (assuming you put a constant power source behind it), then when the button is done the piston will go back up, breaking the line of power. Same for the next button push.
Edit: it was more complicated than i realized, but i got it! Its a bit messy, but at least it works :)
Hey, I might jump into the server these days, I've slowly got back the itch to play Minecraft.
Is there anything I should know beforehand, besides the usual "have fun, don't be a dick to others"?
The main town is at 750, -250. Plenty of free gear and supplies in the white oval-ish town hall. Feel free to build anywhere that looks unoccupied. There are farms available for just about everything, listed in a book in town hall. Everyone's generally super helpful, so feel free to ask if you need anything :)
We’d recommend the standard performance and minimap mods. I think someone has a well composed instruction guide for setting that up
we got customizable armor stands! thanks tea
Yes just name a book “Statues” and it turns into an armor stand remote control
@teaearlgraycold
looks like vanillatweaks has an older version on their site. could you update when you get a chance? you can get it https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/customization/armor-statues-datapack
Thanks for updating! It looks like the redstone ability is disabled by default. Could you turn it on? It should be somewhere in /function armor_statues:admin
I don't see anything like that in the command options.
Hmmmm... per the website:
Admin settings are available using "/function armor_statues:admin" command and include:
-Creating and removing a particle shrine for obtaining the book.
-Enabling and disabling a crafting method for obtaining the book.
-Enabling and disabling the link in the help text for obtaining the book.
-Removing unused armor stands; ones that are invisible and do not hold or wear any items.
-Enabling the tick speed for armor stand animations.
I assume it would be that last option?
Done?
DONE!
Hey, I don't know what I did wrong, but this isn't working for me. I took a regular book and named it Statues with an anvil. With the book in my hand, right clicking on my armor stands doesn't do anything. I thought maybe it was because I had placed the armor stands before the mod was activated, but removing them and replacing them didn't fix it.
You need a "Book and Quill". You name it when you finish and sign the book.
@Positive I'm using the armor stands to turn your statue's butt into an all-out war
Now I just need heads
This might be a bigger project than I should really take on, but I'd like to eventually make a picture of my dog Jasper. This would be 250x250 blocks. o.O
https://imgur.com/a/fnovfnw
If anybody who is good at the mapping stuff can see any problems with this before I start please let me know. I think it should fit perfectly into chunk borders. I'll build it somewhere out in the snowy area with the Mr. Fluffykins.
These are the total blocks I'll need, if anybody is able to make any donations they'd be appreciated! I'm gonna wait until I have all the blocks before I start so I might have to try building a couple farms first if someone else doesn't make them, primarily the afk tree farm but a concrete maker would be good too. I've got a bunch of other stuff I want to make as well so this is definitely a long term goal.
Looks like a good dog
Very good boy you got there!! :)
I see there's quite a bit on concrete in there - I just wanted to draw your attention to the Nether Roof piglin trade center, in which there is a LOT of gravel available! We also have a flower farm (access also via nether roof) where it should be easy to get the all the dyes!
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to do myself a big favor and use something easier to get than Clay for the background. 319 stacks is a lot, I'm thinking maybe light blue wool instead.
Wow didn't even see that hah - yes idd definitely pick something other than clay!!
Light grey wool would work here too - id be a little worried that the light blue might be too 'unnaturally' overpowering as a background, but that's just a thought!
Since just plain stone is barely used otherwise (21 blocks) that might be an easier alternative. I initially took a bunch of light gray wool for the base of my map but will be switching that over to cobblestone so I can hand that off among other things.
That's a very good option as well!
Y'all I can successfully report that Dynmap Web Chat is officially working!
Tagging @Gravysleeves @Bendvis cause I believe you were asking/testing this before too
Oh nice, I'll definitely make use of that since I occasionally check in during my work day to see what people are up to.
Do you have to register for it to work?
Yes! Log into Minecraft and then go to the dyn map and click 'login'. Then just follow the instructions :)
Now that we have the armor statues book, is there any way we can get the More Mob Heads datapack? it would be nice to give these statues faces. We would just have to keep the "dont be a dick" rule in effect since players would also drop their head when they die. But it allows for mob heads from all mobs and less dependent on storms
Okay added. Will be enabled after the restart this evening.
Yah no unwanted PVP please - just mob murders. Remember kids: Murdering without consent is a dick move!
But murder WITH consent or by suicide is widely encouraged
…as long as you keep to Minecraft with that advice. IRL murder is less cool.
Dont ask; dont tell
How do player heads work if the player changes their skin later? Does the head change with it?
Yes it stores the player's UUID not their skin.
Apparently there's the More Mobs Heads for mobs and a separate Player Head Drops datapack to get player's heads. Who knew?
@teaearlgraycold could I get 24 of those invisible item frames Noox got? Thinking about making a little lights out game. The relevant code is
/give @p item_frame{EntityTag:{Invisible:1b}}
you can do it yourself now with the armor stand book
Awesome! I considered asking for some of those myself. :D
Oh cool, thanks
@teaearlgraycold, I was looking online for the webchat issue with Dynmap, would you mind taking a look at what I found? Apologies if you've already done this, but could you check the
configuration.txt
file and see iflogin-enabled: true
is included? That's a prerequisite of allowing webchat to work :)@teaearlgraycold Whoo that did it!!
@teaearlgraycold came and took a peek around my nature path last night and suggested that I should post some pictures here. Come have a search for the treasure!
https://imgur.com/a/VRVUMvF
There are a lot of secrets hidden there.
Here’s the location: https://tildes.nore.gg/?worldname=world&mapname=flat&zoom=5&x=965&y=64&z=208
I think I'm going to build a glow squid farm soon. I keep running out of glow ink. This is the one I'm planning to build, I just gotta find a good spot to put it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jkah3p0TWI&list=WL&index=28&t=407s
There's a very bad, small, and slow one under town, but it's been running mostly undisturbed for about a month now. Go down the ladder under the fountain next to the main end portal.
Personally, when I need glow squid ink, I just spend 15 minutes in the underwater caves below the lonely mountain and I come out with a couple of stacks.
Did not know that was down there. I'll check it out when I get on later, I might still build a better one if it seems like we need it. I've got a spot near my house where I've been diving down to get some, but I only get like 2 squid at a time so I fly away and come back to get more.
Just checked and there's about 1.5 stacks down there. I think the problem is that it's too low, which is because of spawning rules. It's super slow and bad, so a new one would probably be good :)
Rather than building it as an afk farm, I wonder if it would be possible / sensible to build it under town somewhere. It might be more inefficient (squids spawning elsewhere), but it would be running passively all the time people were in town.
If that sounds interesting, I'd be happy to help dig / build.
I think that's the issue with the existing one below town, there are too many other places nearby where they can spawn. Finding a good spot and eliminating any extra spawn points is the hardest part of building the farm.
let me try spending a few minutes lighting up the underwater caves below town to see if I can boost production of the current farm. We could always expand it too
Is there a list of modifications/changes that the server uses compared to a Vanilla 1.20 world? Like I noticed the set tick speed is higher then it is on a normal MC world, at least I think it is, the leaves seems to break faster than normal, but then again I haven't actually played that much on 1.20, recently I have been playing this Beta 1.7.3 mod called Reindev, so I may have forgotten how modern minecraft works a bit.
Tick speed isn't faster but there is a leaf removal plugin. Some other changes off the top of my head are creeper griefing is disabled and phantoms don't spawn.
Yeah nothing too big. We have WorldGuard for the soft whitelist functionality. My treasure hunt plugin and dynmap.
I'm curious, what does this do?
Here’s the code: https://github.com/danthedaniel/TreasureHunt/tree/main/src/main/java/com/danangell/treasurehunt
It’s executed every few days by cron (only if someone is online). Once activated it will place a GPT-written book on a lectern describing the location of hidden treasure. The location of the lectern is then announced in chat. There’s a 15 minute time limit to get the treasure. 50% of the time the treasure is an elytra, which makes this a source of renewable elytra.
Had the treasure hunt run organically for the first time the other day. Sent three of us out into the wild and we came back with a netherite ingot. :)
Small bug to report though, the lectern said the chest would be above ground, but it was juussttt barely below ground in a cave that was very close to the surface. We got lucky and found it by randomly digging around the coordinates provided
I heard - made a hot new version to fix the issues
