This will also be my first time playing via Steam Deck. I have previously played on PC, Switch, and Mobile with a Backbone. Are there any settings you would recommend for performance or is it good with the defaults?

Ah right the achievement, I was thinking of the internal 100% score he added in 1.5. I will happily remain in the unaccomplished as far as Fector’s Challenge is concerned, lol

There is a bit of a trick to it - - you can do it one level at a time by sleeping to save every time you complete a level without dying. If you die, just exit without saving and try again.

You can also use a mouse/keyboard layout on the Deck if the console controls are too annoying. I prefer using the mouse on trackpad myself. The only thing I really miss is the vibration when fishing.

However you can set a TDP limit and, although the load times will slightly increase, it will drastically improve the battery life when mods are installed.
Playing with a controller takes a little getting used to after playing with a keyboard and mouse. I didn't experiment with controller mappings or the touch screen though.

Honestly, Stardew might end up having a lifespan akin to Terraria where every few years there's a "final update".
That being said, ConcernedApe is actively developing another game (which I'm very much looking forward to), so we'll see how that release changes things. For those unaware of it, the new game is going to be called Haunted Chocolatier and is about running, big surprise, a haunted chocolatier. It's supposed to be more action-oriented than Stardew, but I imagine there will be some similar elements in the "grow your business" fashion. I'm sure he's a ways out on that project though, especially if he keeps working on updates like this for Stardew.
It’s baffling how much hard work and love ConcernedApe has put into this game. I think most players would have paid at least a few bucks for some of the big updates he’s done, but kudos to him for...

They have a point though - for the number of hours of content in the game, the price is low. And to add more content without charging more is quite counter to the current business model of lots of studios. It's a total lottery, of course, there are tonnes of game creators whose game doesn't catch the popular imagination and who don't make tonnes of money, and I guess Barone feels that pretty keenly.

I started playing this game for the first time a few days ago and currently hosting a co-op farm that's like 2 hours in. Is there any reason for us to stop our current farm and make a new one because of this update? Or is any new exciting content available in existing farms?

I believe there is a new farm type available, which you'd need to restart to use, but otherwise events and things should simply appear in your "world". I remember when past updates added new areas, etc., and they simply appeared in my original farms, so that shouldn't be a problem for your case. I host a co-op farm with my partner, and we love bonding by pottering around. I hope you get lots of enjoyment from your co-op experience.
Unless your current playthrough uses mods that aren't updated for 1.6 and that you can't/don't want to rip out, you should be fine. The only downside is that you can't use the new farm type. A lot...

It's great that this game receives updates so long after it got out. I have finished it for the first time junt in the last year. And my daughter still has to learn English to the level she can understand the game. I guess we are playing coop v1.6 in the future, so I can see the changes for myself (if I can spot them, I won't read changelog). What a gem!

The beginnerest tip: don't stress out about the clock and just do what you want. Your life will develop in ways that match your choices, and you don't have to try to pack everything into a predetermined amount of time. You can't lose just because you took the time to do things the way you want to do them.
It's very easy to stress about the clock, but then I realised that the game just doesn't "punish" you. I'd have things like invitations to events that I'd forget about, but then, no worries, it...
It's very easy to stress about the clock, but then I realised that the game just doesn't "punish" you. I'd have things like invitations to events that I'd forget about, but then, no worries, it would just trigger the next time I was in the area. I loved that. I play co-op and sometimes the other players will be pedal-to-the-metal with some task they're doing (self-set!) and I'll just chill with the fishing minigame or whatever, it's very nice.
I mean, worry about the clock a little bit. It's not great to find yourself carried away in the mines until 1:30am and realize that you have no hope of getting home before you pass out at 2:00am,...

You know, come to think of it, I did read a mention of tent kits somewhere (probably when I was glancing at the patch notes). That sounds like a fantastic improvement!

Well also, there is the 2 year endgame clock. So you don't want to dilly dally if you're a person who loves minmaxing or completion. If you don't have enough done in the game you miss that window

I've always had the problem that I tend to barely get past the first year before I put the game down and then always feel compelled to start a new farm when I pick it back up again. I've got over 500 hours in Stardew, and I've never had Grandpa make his assessment.

Feel free to reply to or ping me for any questions you have if you start playing though -- I'm eager to help someone get into it! It runs great on the Steam Deck.
Can’t wait for it to release on iPad. I last played stardew valley 7 years ago and felt like playing again. Don’t have my steam deck with me at the moment either

It's super odd because no other game (even ones I've spent more time per day on) has ever caused me hand pain like that.
I read the release notes and am sad I can't play, it sounds like a fantastic update!

It is my left hand (WASD keys) with the issue, unfortunately.

This looks like a massive overhaul of the game. I can't wait to check it out with a new save on my Steam Deck once I can find a spare few hours. What does everyone think?
Wow, you were not kidding on it being a massive overhaul. Really looking forward to trying it out with a new save.

I found it fairly painless. I actually started a new playthrough when I got my SD and got the 100% (not recommended btw; the arcade game is bs lol). I didn't remember anything being a big problem or anything.
Arcade game? I got 100% and definitely never played either game other than the Abigail cutscene.
This one: https://www.trueachievements.com/a226751/fectors-challenge-achievement
Ah right the achievement, I was thinking of the internal 100% score he added in 1.5.

There is a bit of a trick to it - - you can do it one level at a time by sleeping to save every time you complete a level without dying. If you die, just exit without saving and try again.
It's so much fun though. I'd really recommend giving it a shot. Fector's challenge is an epic achievement if you like the Prairie King game.

Edit - sorry, I hit send too soon.
The starting package is even 15 hay instead of seeds, so it's definitely leaning into that concept.
This would be a great time to try it out.
Apparently the new patch introduces tents you can use to camp outside your farm overnight -- I haven't come across them yet (I started a new save so I'm still very early game) but this could make the time pressure way less bad for some players.
You know, come to think of it, I did read a mention of tent kits somewhere (probably when I was glancing at the patch notes). That sounds like a fantastic improvement!
yeah, I don't know when you get access to them but I think they'll be really useful for a lot of us who get nervous from the time crunch.
Is that what they are?! I saw something like that in the crafting menu when you hit Esc (on a keyboard, not sure how you bring that up on a controller, sorry). I think it was next to the deployable campfire. The tent is single use, I think.
On my controller it's accessed by pressing Y. I don't seem to have that recipe yet, but I gotta work my way up lol.
Well also, there is the 2 year endgame clock. So you don't want to dilly dally if you're a person who loves minmaxing or completion.
If you don't have enough done in the game you miss that window
iirc you can get re-evaluated by grandpa later on (the wiki says by putting a diamond by his shrine) so even that's not a strict deadline.
I've always had the problem that I tend to barely get past the first year before I put the game down and then always feel compelled to start a new farm when I pick it back up again. I've got over 500 hours in Stardew, and I've never had Grandpa make his assessment.

That's a good idea, I might give that a shot next time I feel up to risking it.
