I've been having a lot of fun, I joined late so practically everything existed prior to my arrival but is there anything the town needs or would find useful? I still have plenty of things I want to do to my new abode but I feel like I should be contributing in some way to the town.
I'm not great at coming up with a task but if someone has things that need done, could you list them here maybe? The only thing I've noticed so far is the leather/beef farm is not super fast but I think you can just buy leather from traders so it is probably irrelevant (the reason this came up was because I wanted to make bookcases but realized I could just buy those too so...yeah).
Also I prefer not to set up a patreon (just personal preference) but is there a PayPal or venmo etc for a 1-at-a-time contribution?
For a contribution in town, something that is always appreciated is for people who have settled out of town to build a vacation home/embassy/travel agency in town. I appreciate seeing town being filled with other players houses.
If you want a communal project, the best option is to create something you need. An example is how you wanted a better source of leather, so when that happens ask the community if there is a farm for that, and if there is not a good farm, build one.
I like the idea of putting a little house inside of town somewhere, I'll take a stroll around tonight to see if I can find a good place to be :)
There are some farms we don't have, but where the need also isn't super high. We don't have a raid farm for example, mostly because we can trade for iron. Though it would be nice to have a totem supply. To be clear, I am not asking you to construct a raid farm ;) Just clarifying that whatever is "missing" will be mostly the somewhat more niche type of farm.
As IsildursBane already said, some nice visual contribution to town is always appreciated.
Would a raid farm spit out tokens? I haven't been on in a long time (busy season for work) but I thought that raids won't drop tokens unless the difficulty is set high enough. I vaguely remember a discussion about bumping up the server difficulty before I got pulled away for a while
Totems? I don't see why not, they are dropped in regular raids. But because the army of golems has been quite good at tearing up raids at the raid village, I haven't really bother looking into raid farms. Whenever I need a new totem I generally just fly over there, chuck an ominous bottle and wait for my one or two totems to drop.
The difficulty got bumped up since that discussion was had, totems are definitely possible now.
FYI there is a hoglin farm that I always forget exists on the nether roof. I did an extended AFK session there a couple of nights ago (thanks to @GravySleeve's suggestion) so there should be quite the stock of leather.
I have been between projects myself and just try to refill farms and make sure everything is working when I'm online.
One farm that could be useful that I thought of is redoing or repairing our shulker farm. The output is quite low, so either fixing the design or doing a new design would be beneficial. I believe that working with shulkers in setting up the farm can be quite finnicky, so if it seems above your comfort level don't feel like you have to do it.
I did some digging a few threads back into what it would take to fix things. IIRC some of the shulker mechanics changed in recent versions requiring a change to the farm to fix rates. It didn't seem trivial, and I think I indicated that it might be better to just rebuild. I can dig up that thread a bit later if anyone decides to pick this up and needs the context.
As the person that built the shulker farm (or at least one of them) yes it would be easier to just completely rebuild. If you break anything at all the shulkers start hopping all over the place and it makes it a pain to get anything accomplished
I don't know if there are better designs out there now but I just copied a YouTube design step for step and it was very much so not designed for current spawning mechanics
This gets my vote! I'd be eternally grateful for a better shulker farm! I was just talking to @creesch about it not having a good enough output of shulkers an hour ago.
Btw, I just have been standing AFK for a while. I forgot the start time but I have been standing there from anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes and now almost have a stack of shells. So the rate seem to be one stack per hour.
So not great, but doable if it isn't for heavy use. I'll drop the shells I have gotten in the message board chest once I am done btw.
Edit: The end loot chest now has 141 shells.
New thread, time for some screenshots!
Edit:
For people who want to run mods and aren't quite sure how to: I wrote this little guide on prism launcher and performance mods in the previous thread. The installation steps are for Linux, on windows it is just an installer. Figured I'd link it in here again.
Previously I wrote about visual enhancement mods in this comment as well
Glad you enjoyed my castle! That cliff just called to me. I kinda lost steam on playing before I got around to fleshing out the interior more, but it's been fun reading these threads to see how the server's going.
The Tower O' Heads has grown to a frightening height.
It's a flight hazard I'll tell ya! The heads show up quite late, I need to place more warning lights higher up.
As a proud (and maybe only) member of using horses instead of elytras, I feel like that is a skill issue, and therefore does not need to be desecrated with warning lights
Bit too late, already has had them for a while. I just need to extend them :p
I blame @GravySleeve for offering me the silverfish heads
What do you mean?
A little while ago I created floors in the nether roof tower. At the time I was thinking about making it a second home in town. But it isn't quite practical for that and my actual home is really close anyway.
So, I have been thinking, and I want to open up the floors for everyone as a little bit of design challenge on constraint space! Basically:
Tagging some people who might like this. Note, I don't think there are that many free floors, but I also would feel bad if I didn't tag someone (Although I probably will forgot someone anyway)
Edit: If I didn't miscount, it appears there are 11 (eleven) rooms available. I used a random assortment of signs to mark the available floors.
I definitely accept your challenge
to see how I can bend around those three ground rules while staying 100% compliant. There's your loophole!
Watch it now....
This is a great idea! I need to focus on wrapping up my auto-sorter project on the pirate island (I'm moving there to be with my people), but if there's a floor available when I'm done, I'd love to participate
That does sound fun!, and I haven't built anything in town yet. I'll definitely get decorating when I came up with an idea.
I checked out the area this morning to get a feel for the space available. I didn't claim a spot yet, but I did add a few signs. I'll definitely fill a space soon!
Santa's Workshop Raceway is coming along nicely! I'll actually start on the raceway portion of the build once I've finished decorating town and building Santa's workshop. I'm gonna put the workshop on the big patch of ice next to town and have the race go through the inside. You'll be able to see the elves at work as you ride through!
I also found out recently that we have a 2nd witch farm! This one uses hoglins!
Also, now that Halloween has past, I'm posting screenshots of the haunted house I built. Several of the armor stands were animated and many rooms also had sound effects from mob heads. I'll write a description of what happens in each room on the imgur post!
Edit: I just noticed one of the rooms in the haunted house is missing from the screenshots. I'll add it
when I get home.soon.Edit 2: The missing screenshots!
Also, also, @creesch have you been to your statue at the Hall of Heroes?
@TaylorSwiftsPickles should see this too!
Huh, it appears I have wings now :D
The workshop also looks really good! I'll come over soon to take a look in person.
Just took a tour and had a look at the workshop and love it! Great Christmas tree and overall vibes. Btw, if you haven't already I recommend installing the AmbientSounds mod (do lower the overall volume of it though), it greatly enhances the wintery vibes.
I still gotta build the workshop, it'll be a big building out on the ice near the bridge. The triangle house up on the hill is Santa's house, which also has a small workshop area (Santa seems the type to take his work home with him). I also made the nether roof portal into a giant wreath!
Edit: Forgot to say when I wrote this, I do have ambientsounds installed. I like it a lot, but for some reason it likes to play the sound of frogs croaking in the Christmas village sometimes.
The statue is GLORIOUS!
Alright, the pearl transit no longer has a dirt back wall :).
Oh also, there is a new "river" in town in between the museum and haunted house.
Camels!
@teaearlgraycold is it possible to turn off fire?, or at least spreading? This build hasn't been touched by anyone, and it is a shame it is now destroyed.
Going to guess lightning struck it.
Edit: looks like the big tree bendvis build next to the stables also suffered damage.
Edit: Arknata found another damaged player building.
IIRC we're using CoreProtect to restore any areas that were unfairly destroyed rather than turning off fire tick. I've not used CP myself, but tea should be able to restore the area.
Is there any reason not to turn off fire tick? Like mechanics for farming?
I wonder if Tea has used CoreProtect before on this server, because a while ago I could have sworn an area reverted to an earlier version in time. But it wasn't that big of a deal at the time so I completely forgot about it.
tea likes fire spread :)
Uh okay... why though? Guess we need tea to answer that.
using my best Michael Caine voice:
edit: This is How Michael Caine Speaks
I have restored it.
Don't forget to put in a lightning rod near where these fires were so it doesn't happen again!
Edit: I just realized, I don't have a lightning rod anywhere near my volcano!
oh good call
Do people want me to disable fire spread? I think it can be occasionally useful and if we're able to roll back changes that we don't want it's fine to keep it around.
A few months ago I would have voted in favour of disabling fire spread. However, I do not feel like it has caused that much issue, and therefore would probably prefer it left enabled. I did have my place recently struck by lightning, but the damage was minimal (and kind of my fault for refusing to place any lightning rods). However, I do know it also limits some building opportunities to have it enabled
Ha, that reminds me that I was just thinking about building a blacksmith in my little artificial village at the cabana, and ended up having to rethink putting any lava near my chosen block palette. :D
You can waterlog slabs in many cases to prevent fire from spreading. That's what I did for the floor around the entrance of the fire room of the haunted house.
Oh great idea! I may yet build that blacksmith's house. :)
I had originally asked for it to be disabled, but honestly with CoreProtect in place it hasn't been a huge problem.
