The Great Tildes Archipelago Randomizer - May 8th YAML thread
Hello tilderunners! Apologies for the delay on this thread, I was out of town and realized I hadn't posted last week. I'm posting to collect everyone's YAML for their intended Archipelago run and confirm if we have enough people to go.
For anyone out of the know, Archipelago is a large multiworld randomizer across multiple games. I made an FAQ over here with some details and info. If it sounds vaguely interesting, don't be intimidated and come on in! It's as crazy as it sounds, but not nearly as hard as you think it'll be.
Let's put a hard cutoff of 9 PM ET on the night of Thursday, May 8th to post your YAML(s) in this thread. The YAMLs have to bake in at the beginning - we can't add you later! So please try to get them in then, or let me know if you'll be a bit late so we can push the start a little bit. If a majority of people cannot make the Thursday night time, I can push the date, so please let me know - I'm thinking if we hit ~7 YAMLs posted and ready for the start time we'll go. There are often a lot of checks at the beginning, so it's typically best to be around for the start to be around for the opening chaos. It's still asynchronous, though - if you can start playing within the first 24 hours, that should be fine!
I'm not sure what the best way to attach the YAML would be, so I'm going to suggest posting a spoilered code block that I can throw into a text file. If anyone has a better idea, please throw it in here. I've also thrown a discord server together if you want to join and stream or chat while you play! Technically I've got a separate emojis one with Nitro if that's better for the audio quality boost, but this might be fine for now.
Everyone, I believe we are good to go! Here's the homepage for the run:
https://archipelago.gg/room/qRnvgboAR4uzsNK95Y21Zg
If you are missing any setup file let me know. As an FYI, the server shuts itself down after 2 hours - if you can't connect, try visiting the above link to restart and double-check that the port has not changed.
I'll be hanging out in the Discord for a bit - if you have any trouble setting up, feel free to jump on and I'll see what I can do!

@Areldyb @AriMaeda @Douglas @Fal @FlappyFish @gco @Gummy @Kaffo @Lapbunny @Mendanbar @Nankeru @Shtink @TheRtRevKaiser @v17 @Wes1 @zestierHeads up for anyone out of the loop, there's an SSL cert that failed and Archipelago.gg servers are down! Whoops. Will edit this when it's back.
(We're back!)
Heh, kind of ironic since Tildes was down just a few min ago for a few min for the same reason. :P
(Pinging @V17 @Nankeru @gco @AriMaeda @Fal @Mendanbar @Nihilego @Gummy @chewonbananas @kaffo @PancakeCats @AstartesTemplar @HunterRobot @EsteeBestee @Weldawadyathink @FlappyFish @Durinthal @Liru @Areldyb ! No worries if you can't make it.)
I think I am going to drop out. I just have too much going on right now, and I don’t want people waiting on me. I also have incredibly unreliable and slow internet right now. But if you do this again, please ping me.
I'm joining with Slay the Spire.
Already set up, tested and ready to go.
YAML for Slay the Spire
I won't be available until the 12th myself so I'll have to decline this particular time.
Unfortunately this week is pretty bad for me, so I'll have to pass this time, thanks though!
I'll be running SM64, with cannons and Mario's moveset thrown in as randomized items along with the stars, caps, and keys.
YAML
I may not be on for very long on Thursday night, but I don't want to miss the opening rush so I'll try to get in at least a little time.
I'm looking forward to this!
I hit my goal more quickly than I expected, so all the checks in my game have released.
@Lapbunny that was really fun, thanks you for organizing this! I'd love to do another one some time.
As seems to be tradition for Tildes community events (ffs), I'm probably going to drop out from this. I have to attend a destination wedding for about a week soon after this begins. If this is expected to last longer than a week, I can pop in later, but I won't be able to participate for a good chunk of this.
Here's my YAML
I hope I'm doing this right. I'm going with Minecraft with all default settings since this is my first time and that's the game I'm most comfortable with.
EDIT: added the YAML tag because everyone else's looked pretty and I wanted mine to look pretty too. :)
I played Minecraft for my first multiworld not long ago and really enjoyed it! It wasn't too bad at all, most of the advancements are pretty reasonable. The only issues I had were that the game just did not want to give me the "Caves and Cliffs" advancement which you get by falling from the build limit to bedrock and surviving. I tried it several different ways and nothing worked, so I eventually enabled OP and just gave it to myself, because apparently that particular achievement is finicky.
I also was the last person to finish because I couldn't create Eyes of Ender until very late in the game, as my Brewing was stuck in someone else's world for a long time, and when I finally got it my stronghold was under the ocean floor 😅.
All that to say: I had a really good time with it, so I hope you enjoy it too!
I'm going to try Balatro if that's cool! I haven't run it in a multiworld before, but I think it should be manageable.
YAML
What does the {NUMBER} mean after the name? I searched around and didn't see any mention of it on archipelago.gg.
Here are the comments from the template YAML I used.
If I understand that correctly, if you use "{number}" then Archipelago will create your slot with your player name as the name you put in the YAML file, plus a number (the number is, I think, a counter of the number of names in that multiworld that are the same). With "{NUMBER}" it will only add the counter if the value would be greater than 1.
So, if there are two players named "player" then with "{number}" you would wind up with "player1" and "player2" and with {NUMBER} you'd get "player" and "player2".
I should be able to play Thursday. I'm not at home right now so I'll update this comment with a YAML when I get a chance. Haven't settled on a game yet, but probably either Twilight princess or Sonic Adventure DX.
Edit: Decided to play Twilight Princess. Got the yaml template from the v0.3.0 apworld.
YAML
Sure, I'll give it a go with my cut down Dark Souls 3 settings.
YAML
I'm in for Hollow Knight! I do have a start inventory entry, and I'm not sure if the host still needs to enable something in their host.yaml to make that happen.
YAML
I also have start inventory in mine. In my experience hosting, any player yamls should 'just work' assuming the host has the correct apworlds for everything
Do you know if that's the case for plando stuff as well? I remember AP used to eat all of those unless the host enabled it, but that was a few versions back.
I've never messed with plando stuff so I'm not sure. I just assumed everything that could be in a YAML was enabled by default.
I'm in for Hollow Knight! Here's hoping I generated the YAML correctly.

Going with Wind Waker, with a slightly modified version of an available preset. Excited to start, but wont be able to until 11pm Thursday night.
YAML
Would you mind re-pasting the YAML in a code block? The formatting got ate by tildes.
(
like this: ```yaml [enter] YAML YAML [enter]``` wrapped by the spoiler
)If needed, you can use the "View Markdown" feature which still retains all of the indentation. It's under "More..." underneath the post.
edited it and seems like it should be working properly now? let me know if there is any more trouble.
Decided to give this a try. First time modding Hollow Knight, but I'm plenty familiar with the base game.
YAML
I'm gonna do DOOM, if that's all okay.
YAML
This is my entry for Rogue Legacy:
YAML
I'll be playing Doom as well. Thought about including Thy Flesh Consumed, but then I realized that I've never actually played it in vanilla doom and maybe doing it on ultra-violence right away in this situation may not be the best idea.
YAML
Coming down to the wire! Just a note, this may not really "start" until tomorrow morning since the generation tends to take a while. I will start ASAP once the seed is ready, though!
For posterity:
YAML
Am I understanding correctly that the event itself would be played on Friday, May 9th? I am interested, but didn't pipe up in the first thread because I knew my May was going to be swamped.
However, I might be able to double this up with this month's backlog burner, killing two birds with one stone. I'd probably pick a shorter game. Looking at the spreadsheet, I'd say
Celeste (Open World)
looks good.If that sounds okay, I'll generate a yaml and toss that over.
Also, would it be possible to have a game thread on Tildes itself, rather than just Discord? I figure that'll be easy enough to click Ignore on if it's bothering others.
Celeste would be good! We've got a few other spreadsheet entries, me included once I get a Pokémon Crystal YAML up.
I will definitely start a proper tildes thread for communication; the Discord channel is mainly because it's probably the easiest venue to jump in/out and stream as we play. (Even for anyone else that would like to watch but aren't playing, you're welcome to join the channel!) But you're also totally free to play yourself and communicate getting or requesting any major checks via the thread without jumping on the Discord channel.
Great! I've generated a .yaml file from the .apworld, and went ahead and set up the mod in advance. I should be ready to just plug in the server and password come game day.
YAML
You'll want the v1.0.2 apworld file when installing it locally.
Now I'll just need to find a way to spin this as a backlog entry...
edit: Completed my run. I did a short write-up with my thoughts, but I enjoyed it!
Hopefully not too late, I've got a submission from a non-tildes friend who wants to play as well (I'll get him in the Discord if that's OK, I understand if it's not, just let me know!)
YAML
Absolutely!
