I assumed some of my older stuff might work, but with things like the Thor or Retroid 6 you can run Hades or Silksong, or probably more (those just caught my eye).
There are modern cellphone games that are, from a technical and financial perspective, AAA games. Hoyo’s offerings like Zenless Zone Zero and Genshin Impact come to mind.

It's an incredibly polished story-driven game that basically takes some of the Breath of the Wild ideas and runs with them, building something much larger in scope. It has an incredible amount of lore, and seemingly endless things to do, because they put out new content so frequently.
Yes, it has random pulls to acquire more (completely optional) playable characters and weapons using an in-game currency. Do you have to ever pay a cent? No, you just play the game and spend the gems whenever you have them. I get more than I care to use just by playing the main story. I have tons of characters I'm not using, because I've mostly liked my core team for years now.
It does run on phones, as well as consoles and PCs, but it's hardly what comes to mind when someone says "mobile game." It's like someone gave you several Zelda games for free.

I play Umamusume. I think it's an extremely interesting way to tell all sorts of sports narratives, has the most charming cast I've ever seen in a Japanese franchise, conveys the love and humanity of an extremely niche sport to a broad audience, and contrasts this mix of sports and slice of life sweetness against one of the sweatiest roguelike PvP spreadsheet RNG deathmatches you could imagine. It's one of the most Japanese things I've seen in my life, and I think its global success in the face of something so impenetrable is bizarrely entertaining. I'd recommend the BoaNE movie in particular to just about anyone who likes animation or sports movies.
It's also a mobile gacha game. Any game that's designed with it in mind should never downplay it as a genre because minimaxing financial cost is inseparably baked into the game design, IMO, and not doing so kind of feels like a cognitohazard.
Sure! But a lot of the quarter munchers get more fondly looked upon after someone let you hit the coin button yourself - or at least when they started charging you up front on consoles - so you...
Sure! But a lot of the quarter munchers get more fondly looked upon after someone let you hit the coin button yourself - or at least when they started charging you up front on consoles - so you could see how much was excellent game design and how much was trying to wring your wallet out. I love Metal Slug! I also continued 53 times on the PS2 version of 3, which I rented from Blockbuster for $5. Likewise, at least for Umamusume, I'd much more universally suggest anyone play it a couple decades into the future when someone hacks the client/server software and there isn't a Cygames that cares about that.

I believe you can play Genshin without spending money, yes, progress will be slower and yes, you will not get all your heroes, but that's just gacha. And it's free, big and polished game with interesting, beautiful world and stories.
Do you have in mind game that similar to Genshin but better and without gacha mechanics maybe?
Heh, this reminds me of 2012 when I found out GTA3 ran at 60fps on my Galaxy Nexus. Only, this is a Crysis-level game in terms of hardware requirements for its time. ARM chips have really crushed...

ARM chips have really crushed the performance-per-watt stat that intel didn't think was important after they released the Atom. So it makes sense that mobile processors have become on par with laptops nowadays.
There's a reason the Macbook Neo is selling like hotcakes, despite having a motherboard that's basically a cellphone from a year ago. It's way more than you need for doomscrolling, and still fairly capable at gaming.
Modern phones are able to run steam games via FEX, it’s insane how the chips are powerfully enough to run PC games via a translation layer, not even just native ports

Price: $4.99 Size: up to 45.12 GB They also added touch controls apparently. I’m at work (and have not played the game before) so I cannot add more details but I’m excited to give it a try soon!

This game is amazing. Easily my favourite Remedy game and one of my favourites of all time. $4.99 is almost criminal. I definitely still recommend playing it with a controller.

Also, as I'm fond of pointing out: video games have their roots in PLEASE INSERT COIN. Charging nominal fees for aspects of games is hardly new.
