Was not expecting Dano to be A GIANT FUCKING SPIDER. Moved it right from a "yes" to a "only if I hear it's really good".
Is that because of an arachnophobia, or does the form of the alien suggest something that I'm not understanding? It seems that the choice of creatures is either homage to or parody of the Andy...

I think that is along the lines of what I am misunderstanding, because I generally assume silliness is involved in movies that feature comedians in starring roles.

Not necessarily. It’s being billed as a sci-fi drama, so expectations for the level of silly would be more reserved. Comedy actors do branch out, especially ones with long careers that want to...

Comedy actors do branch out, especially ones with long careers that want to stretch their acting abilities; Adam Sandler himself recently starred in Uncut Gems in 2019, a very intense and un-silly crime thriller, along with a few earlier dramas.
Yeah, same. Haven't even looked at the trailer, just some threads. What I'd heard sounded interesting. Except "spider" has been brought up too. And I can't do spiders. So ... pass.

When I was growing up, most people didn’t think spiders were cuddly and cute, but they also weren’t deathly afraid of them and refuse to be anywhere within 100 feet of them. People thought of them like they’d think of most other bugs, like flies or gnats.
Lately it seems like the majority of people I’ve talked to about it have a borderline legitimate phobia. Is it just a meme? Is it a meme that’s manifested into a real fear?
I personally don’t really understand it. Most spider bites are no worse than mosquito bites, and spiders don’t really go out of their way to bite humans most of the time anyway. I can understand being scared of wasps or hornets way more than spiders.
Likely the same with trypophobia, megalophobia, thalassophobia, and the laundry list of other niche, seemingly trendy phobias; slight discomfort being miscategorized as a phobia either...

There’s certainly some people who actually have a true phobia, or whip themselves into an anxious frenzy by going down an internet rabbit hole of increasingly scary but unlikely related scenarios.

The more interesting thing to me is that I wonder if people constantly hearing the overexaggerated meme about having to burn your house down because you saw a spider and all of these super hyperbolic reactions to them that started off as jokes has sort of subconsciously reinforced that spiders are the scariest thing in the universe to a large group of people and has sort of become a real self reinforcing phenomenon
No clue why it's on the rise. As someone with arachnophobia, I can safely say there is little logic to the reaction though. I know most spiders are harmless. I still avoided my bed for 3 days once...
No clue why it's on the rise. As someone with arachnophobia, I can safely say there is little logic to the reaction though. I know most spiders are harmless. I still avoided my bed for 3 days once because there was a spider on the wall and my parents couldn't find it when I got them to come help.
There's definitely an element of revulsion for me, I don't like killing them because that just feels disgusting. Don't even like flushing their bodies because I just have this mental image of them crawling out of the toilet as spider-ghosts, irrational as that is. I'm at least at a point where I coexist with them now because they take care of other grosser bugs. Well, as long as they don't do it in my line of sight. Their eating methods disgust me.
Funny side-note: according to my aunt, I watched that spider scene in one of the Harry Potter movies without looking away while she and my cousin were freaked out. I don't remember it well, but I wonder sometimes if that may have contributed to my phobia.
As long as someone else writes, directs, and produces the film he's in, Adam Sandler can turn out an exceptional performance. If it's self-produced through his Happy Madison Production company...

If it's self-produced through his Happy Madison Production company it's more likely going to be a lazy excuse for him and his friends to fund a vacation in whatever country it's filmed in.
"I don't need your help." "But you do." *Spaceman cries* carried a pretty hilarious energy for me. Honestly, intrigued but not like "oh, gotta see it." Gotta make sure to wait for this in case...

Arachnophobia.

Made me think of Tchaikovsky's Children of Time series even more so
For anyone who hasn't read it, that first book, "Children of Time", is very good.
I have only read the first so far. Looking forward to space spiders.
I'm gonna guess cause it's a little silly.

Same x3.
Why the fuck would they make it a giant spider? Do they want people to not watch it???

Why wouldn't people watch big cute little hairy spiders in space?
It's based on a book.
I don't care for Adam Sandler. Maybe I will like him better in a serious role.
Not a Punch Drunk Love fan?
Check out Uncut Gems
Uncut gems caught me by surprise and Adam Sandler is way more versatile than I thought. Absolutely agree with the recommendation.
As long as someone else writes, directs, and produces the film he's in, Adam Sandler can turn out an exceptional performance.
If it's self-produced through his Happy Madison Production company it's more likely going to be a lazy excuse for him and his friends to fund a vacation in whatever country it's filmed in.
In addition to the other suggestions, I suggest The Meyerowitz Stories as a good Sandler role.
Totally understand why his style of humor doesn't work for some people. His non-comedic acting is actually pretty good though.
Modern day Leslie Neilson?
It's Nielsen and don't you dare put his name anywhere near Sandlers...Nielsen was leagues above this guy
Okay! I will not call him Shirley either!
We’re all counting on you
