I feel for her. To an extent I get your brain being in competition mode, being so focused on the task at hand you ignore everything else. What I don't even slightly get is not one single coach or official stepping in and making that choice for her. That is a fucking joke and a complete failure on her coach and the entire organization. People puking, peeing, etc during intense competition isn't exactly rare, saying you had no plan to deal with that is insane. Did you have a plan to clean the bathrooms the spectators were using? This is such a basic thing when hosting sporting events it is blowing my mind. She is taking the heat but that entire sporting organization should be on blast for not being in front of this. If they fuck up something this basic what other athlete saftey measures are they half assing?

Apparently the contest organizers didn't have a plan for this ... seems weird given that people could absolutely injure themselves and bleed on the equipment, which would've had similar (if not worse) impacts. And that's rather predictable for a sporting event. Anyways, sports orgs don't care about the safety of their participants; news at eleven.

I have friends who have done this while running and I myself have had involuntary bowel movements at inconvenient times, which I reflect on as being very funny given my age at the time (late 20's).

She should have removed herself, for common sense. It's disgusting that she thought it was OK to sit on a workout bench someone else was going to have to use while covered in feces. If you had shit dripping down your legs and sat on a public seat on a subway you'd get the stink-eye too.

I had a similar reaction as you, at first, since I know this is a thing in running. In this case, though, it's less that she had a bowel issue and more that it became everyone else's biohazard. And she won. I don't know enough about it to speculate on whether that would've happened regardless, but it surely affected the performance of those around her.
