Apple Watch
Mostly incremental upgrades. I'm on a pretty old apple watch by now and the battery is definitely not "full day", so I am planning on getting a series 8.
Apple Watch Ultra
It seems like it does have quite a bit of additional features, although they're not really the features that I, uh, would really use. From other people, it seems that the dive computer capabilities are very impressive. $799 seems like a pretty fair price as well - most people were expecting $1000 and less additional features.
I have small wrists and don't do anything particularly extreme, so not for me, but it does seem like a way more interesting product than leaks indicated.
Airpods Pro 2
Also something I'm looking to pick up. Mostly incremental upgrades, although real find my and speakers on the case is genuinely a pretty good feature. Volume controls is also very nice - most other wireless earbuds with this form factor don't have volume control either.
iPhone 14
Almost seems like the iPhone 13 Pro minus 120hz and plus satelite emergencies.
iPhone 14 Pro
The more interesting phone this year - smaller notch, and a good example of making lemonade out of lemons with the "dynamic island". From the video, said island of dynamacy seems very dynamic and well animated indeed.
Always on display is here, a bit interesting it took this long since everyone gets their phone sized OLEDs from Samsung but nice anyhow.
Plus the rest of the normal incremental upgrades: better SoC, better camera, better comp photo.
I might consider it coming from a iPhone 12 but I'll have to see in a store, I'm worried the pros are too heavy for me.
Speaking to this one...I have a Samsung Galaxy S21. I have very large hands. If phonearena is accurate...the 14 pro is about the same size and 35g heavier. The S21 is already a very large,...

The S21 is already a very large, unweildy phone that weighs too much.

Given that, the “dynamic island” is making lemonade out of lemons (making the best of a bad situation) - it masks the existence of the notch/pill/whatever by playing with it in the UI, turning the notch into part of the UI itself rather than just being a unusable hole on the screen.

So, satellite emergency SOS sounds like an amazing lifesaving feature. Should be rolled out to all phones ASAP.
The feature will be included for free on new phones for two years.
I do not like how lifesaving features can and will be paygated. Lets regulate this one to be mandatory free, like 911 calls without a cell plan.
I can't wait for phone manufacturers to re-add AM/FM/WX radios to their phones and sell a monthly plan turn it on. /s

A prank 911 call wastes and ties up a few hundred or thousand dollars in public resources.
But a prank emergency satellite call can waste tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in public resources as the government will have to deploy helicopters, drones, and search crews in hazardous terrain.
Why though? To what end does an identity need to be tied to an emergency beacon? It wouldn't solve the issue you describe. Prankster step 1 just becomes 'steal phone'

Stealing an iPhone is a pretty complicated process. It is not enough to just have possession of the device, since it is unusable without the legitimate owner's password.

Since the stakes are much, much higher, I imagine that to use the satellite emergency feature there'll need to be confirmation and re-verification via passcode or Face ID.
I imagine that it'll be also communicated sternly to mischievous users that crying wolf carries much stiffer penalties than a prank 911 call, which people—especially children—are sometimes let off with only a verbal warning.

How many people have a password or PIN that is easily guessable?
I'm not sure that really matters given that iPhones permanently lock themselves pretty quickly after a few failed guesses. If you lock your phone with 1234 in 2022 and an attacker guesses that on the first try, then you probably deserve whatever happens next.
Or the phone gets snatched from the victim while it is unlocked?
Is this a common occurrence? I imagine most pickpockets are usually more subtle than that.
Mind you, all of this has to happen out in a place with no cell service.

With the exception of the Apple Watch ultra (which seems really awesome), this seems more of a refinement than an upgrade. That being said, I’m pretty happy with it.
I use my AirPods Pro almost exclusively for all audio in my life. I also sometimes wear them just for the noise cancelling. So I will be getting the Gen 2 almost entirely for the better noise cancelling. My current ones are going on 2.5 years, so it’s time for an upgrade. (Although I needed so many apple care upgrades so often that the actual hardware is not as old)
I currently have the 12 mini. I have wanted to get the 13 pro for the high refresh rate for a few months now. So I was pretty set on upgrading to the 14 pro no matter what they announced. I am super hyped that they made a purple (and dark purple, not light purple) iPhone pro! Purple is my favorite color. Now if apple would just sell the purple keyboard/mouse/trackpad without also buying an iMac, that would be awesome.

I've noticed that recent Apple events have really leaned on the overuse (abuse?) of techno-buzzwords to dress up slowing product innovation. Things are getting a little faster, a little more efficient, a little lighter, a little brighter... but not much cosmos-shifting stuff gets revealed, like in Steve Jobs' presentations. Though Steve Jobs did love his techno-buzzwords, he used them sparingly for maximum effect and 'punch'. Now seemingly every other word spoken by an Apple product presenter is a techno-buzzword.
Apple Watch 8
Feels more like Watch 7.1, not 8. Very small incremental changes.
Apple Watch Ultra
Wow. That is one... incredibly ugly watch. But very impressive in its feature offerings. But I doubt many people really need those features. I suspect there'll be people who aren't extreme athletes but will buy it for the extreme athlete vibe, like how many people buy and drive four-wheel-drive, off-road SUVs and pick up trucks for their office commute.
AirPods Pro 2
A great iteration. The enhanced noise cancellation and adaptive transparency really appeal to me. I'm already getting a lot of use out of my AirPods Pro. Maybe if/when these get stolen (again) and I'm forced to replace them, then I'll choose the AirPods Pro 2.
iPhone 14 Pro's dynamic island
I found their dynamic island design to be clever and well-executed. Making lemonade out of lemons, indeed. They could have done what many Android phone makers do and ignore the pill. But they really embraced it as a creative constraint. Fantastic design work.
iPhone 14 and 14 Pro
Improved camera is kinda... meh. iPhone cameras have already gotten very, very good.
I find the emergency satellite feature very interesting, because it portends a near future where everyone with a phone won't ever be truly lost. I can't help but to wonder if its introduction was influenced by some recent Bay Area deaths: namely those of the Berkeley runner Philip Keycik and that young family in the Sierra Nevada, all of whom died of dehydration and heat exhaustion when they lost their way from their trails. Very tragic — and had they been able to use their phones to contact emergency services via satellite, they would have lived.
I won't upgrade my phone solely for the satellite feature. But I think this is an interesting and good step for Apple to take the iPhone in, because it brings us closer to a future where humans will never be alone and helpless anywhere on planet Earth.

Having a 48MP vs 12MP main camera seems like a big upgrade, but I haven't seen any detailed reviews yet on whether that would actually make a difference worth going for! We have a reason to take lots of photos at the moment (new kiddo), so I'm waiting for an authoritative review if possible...

Certain moments call for clarity. But most moments require only that you capture their fleeting feeling.
I think it'd be worth using whatever camera you have now, but get the 14 Pro when it comes out for those special moments that you'll want to remember in super high resolution.

I'll wait until I can watch the announcement, but I'm really underwhelmed. I skipped upgrading my SE to the 13 because I was hoping the 14 would offer a simelar level of improvements, but this is an even more incremental change than last time. I'm really nervous about them abandoning SIM cards because I don't know if my carrier supports them, and the emergency satellite communications is almost entirely useless to me because I will basically never go anywhere where that will be necessary.
From my understanding of the announcement, the no physical SIM card models is only for the US market. All the true carriers in the US should support esim, and mvno carriers should be able to...

The new ones are $250 from Apple and the old ones already discounted, it seems.
No new iPhone mini. I guess I’m holding on to my 12 mini for as long as possible. I just don’t like bigger phones.
I love my 12 mini. It just fits me. My only complaint is the battery life, but that's been true of every iPhone I've ever owned.
The 13 mini has improved battery life.
I actually don’t mind the reduced battery life. I feel like it makes me use my phone a little less, since I know I have to conserve it. :)

I don't understand what your trying to convey with this phrase.
There still needs to be a cutout on iPhones, for the selfie camera and the faceID sensors. Because of the latter it needs to be larger than what android phones have as well.

Ah, marketing. I'm with the critics on this one....dynamic island is ridiculous marketing for "We're working to make the notch less intrusive."
It definitely is ridiculous marketing. That being said, it's also a clever piece of UI design that helps camouflage the punch through
I mean, it changes dynamically and it’s an island in the middle of the screen.
So, satellite emergency SOS sounds like an amazing lifesaving feature. Should be rolled out to all phones ASAP.
I do not like how lifesaving features can and will be paygated. Lets regulate this one to be mandatory free, like 911 calls without a cell plan.

I’m annoyed that I just bought the AirPods Pro. I didn’t think to check if there might be a new one coming out, like I do when buying a Mac.
If you "just" bought them you might still be able to return them. IMO this is a significant enough upgrade to check.
I've learned to never buy an Apple product before checking MacRumors Buyer's Guide to see if it's a good time or if I should wait.
If they discounted the old models they’ll usually just proactively credit you the difference if you bought within a few months of the announcement.
I bought them from Amazon. Their return policy is good and it’s mostly a matter of deciding if I’m the sort of person who will return headphones that work well.
