I'm ever-hopeful for the continuation of the Gentleman Bastards series. The first (Lies of Locke Lamora) is one of my all time favorites and I'd love to see where the rest of the series takes us.

I really want to say they're going to be with Subterranean but I don't totally remember so this might be a complete fabrication on my part. But there will be more Gentleman Bastards soon, yes.

I really like the Gentleman Bastards, but I'm afraid the first book is the best one of the current bunch. The others are still very entertaining and worth reading, though.

It's true, he has no books by these initials - they're short for "Secret Project 1," "Secret Project 2," etc. He did a kickstarter event this year to publish 4 secret novels and it's been kind of this whole thing in the fan community that no one even knows the name of the books they've bought, let alone the title or the premise.

Technically the embargo on SP3 has passed as of 2 weeks ago, but I'll still leave it out as not all physical copies of the kickstarter have shipped yet, but SP1 is Tress of the Emerald Sea, or TOTES (which is just a great acronym). Still, SP1 is a bit quicker to write, so a lot of people are calling Tress SP1 for convenience (because becoming a Cosmere fan is not confusing enough already 🙃)

If you've read Stormlight you probably know enough to read Tress and def know enough to read SP3, but if you're super into correct reading orders, I would read Tress absolutely last (though possibly you could go: Bands of Mourning, Mistborn: Secret History, Tress, The Lost Metal in this order when you're in mistborn era 2). And make sure to read Elantris, Warbraker, and White Sand all pretty early on :)

You're good now, but don't go straight from MB1 to 2. In between, read:

            • Elantris
            • Warbreaker
            • White Sand (graphic novels, but pretty required reading at this point)

DO NOT READ MISTBORN: SECRET HISTORY UNTIL AFTER BANDS OF MOURNING!!!!!!!!! THIS PART OF ERA 2.

There's also a bunch of stuff in Arcanum Unbounded that you may or may not know about, have you read Edgedancer and Dawnshard? Those are novellas that go in the middle of Stormlight, and Edgedancer is part of Arcanum Unbounded. You should read the entirety of Arcanum Unbounded EXCEPT FOR MISTBORN: SECRET HISTORY around now or after you finish Mistborn Era 1.

REMEMBER: DO NOT READ MISTBORN: SECRET HISTORY UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED BANDS OF MOURNING, EVEN THOUGH IT'S IN ARCANUM UNBOUNDED.

Nothing else in Arcanum Unbounded has spoilers for stuff you haven't read yet, and a lot of should be read before Tress (actually you've already missed a couple references to AU stuff in Stormlight, but no huge deal, you can catch up reading the wiki and/or reading various discussion boards, though without reddit idk really where to go)

So after you've read all of those things you can go on to Mistborn Era 2, and then follow my recommended order above in the previous comment at the end of MB2, BOM MB:SH, TOTES, TLM.

Now that I think of it, actually prob you should read SP3 after Tress, so maybe save that for very last.

If you're ok with briefly going to reddit, /r/cosmere links to some reading order info, at https://old.reddit.com/r/cosmere/wiki/order (my browser still autocompletes this when I type ord lol). But I'm relatively sure I've covered everything.

Anyway the TLDR is to go as close to publication order as possible; however, that gets pretty damn confusing cos he writes so many things at the same time haha

@PigeonDubois I disagree with reading Mistborn Secret History after Bands of Mourning. My recommendation is to read it after Hero of The Ages. This way maximises the connections you can make while reading it, and it's not really a spoiler for future books.

Spoiler discussion intended for @RheingoldRiver and others who have read Secret History So, I've recently read Secret History, and one of my gripes was that the events of Well of Ascension, and Hero of the Ages were really blurry in my memory. For example when Kelsier is following Vin, and then Ruin imitates Kelsier as the shadow, and stuff like that. I'd forgotten all those events when I read Secret History. So I feel like reading it after HoA is best to make those connections.

Also regarding spoilers, even after reading Secret History it's not exactly clear that the Sovereign is Kelsier. I haven't finished the Lost Metal, and I'm not even a 100% on this until I read the coppermind after finishing this book.

I've skipped reading White Sands for now due to it's paperbacks being relatively more expensive than the other books. Could you drop some hints on why it should be considered required reading?

Non-spoiler about BoM vs SH order: I guess if you're reading this over the course of like 6+ months, so you've forgotten a ton of details, you could read SH directly after you're done with HoA....

Non-spoiler about BoM vs SH order: I guess if you're reading this over the course of like 6+ months, so you've forgotten a ton of details, you could read SH directly after you're done with HoA. But it sounds like @PigeonDubois is reading pretty quickly (based on "just discovered Sanderson" and "finished Stormlight"), so I doubt they'll have forgotten much.

Spoiler About BoM vs SH order, SPOILERS HERE DO NOT READ!!!!!!! To me it was 100% apparent from the last lines of BoM that he was Kelsier, and this was with 0 interaction with any discussion board etc up until I was totally caught up, so I caught it on my own. I would *not* have wanted to have that revelation ruined by already reading SH. It's true not everyone will catch it, but I'd rather give people the chance than ruin the possibility.

Also BoM first is Sanderson's intended reading order.

Spoiler About White Sand The magic system (white sand) shows up in a few other books (notably Rhythm of War and Tress) in noticeable ways, and Khriss, one of the characters, makes a direct appearance in *The Lost Metal*.

1 and 2 more refer to which era is it, but coincidentally they are also each series. I'm not actually sure if era refers to Cosmere-wide timeline or literally just means series now that I think of it, I had assumed the former but...it might just mean the latter haha

I'm looking forward to the third and final instalment of the Book of Dust by Philip Pullman, but I expect it to be released late-2024 or 2025. The trilogy covers the adventures of Lyra Belacqua after the events of His Dark Materials. The second book - The Secret Commonwealth - ended on a rather dark note, and I'm interested to see where the story ends up.

I think that the underpinning philosophy behind the Book of Dust is distinct to His Dark Materials, the latter concerning religious dogmatism and the new trilogy concerning how hollowing it is to be in hock to intellectual rationalism. Those wishing for a more direct sequel to the premise of His Dark Materials may be disappointed - initially - and the tone of the new trilogy is darker. The two instalments so far are more in the magical realism bracket than the His Dark Materials trilogy, and pressed home to me the value in imagination and make-believe stories in providing emotional value and connection to the rest of the world. That's what I've taken away, anyway.

I think Annihilation, the first book in the series, is probably my favorite book. Such a weird atmosphere to it. I remember reading it in a couple of days getting completely sucked in, and immediately buying the second and third books even before I finished the first.
I really thought the story was done in book three and that we wouldn't be getting any more books in that setting, so I'm supper happy the author decided to tell more stories in that world

You have these viking style raising parties. Some have the old gods blood in them and others are just human. Those that have the gods bloods have unique abilities but they must hide them for they are hunted.

Old gods coming back to life and some extremely strong well written characters (both make and female) make these very fast reads.

I largely read non-fiction, so these are the books coming out in the next few months that I am particularly interested in:

    • The Deadly Rise in Anti-Science by Dr. Peter Hotez - Dr. Hotez was the co-creator of Corbevax, a COVID-19 vaccine that is patent-fee and sold for less than $3 per dose; he is regularly attacked by anti-vaccine and anti-science activists, often . I genuinely feel that we are entering a dark age for both intellectualism and science, and it is important to listen to voices warning us.

    • Under the Eye of Power: How Fear of Secret Societies Shapes American Democracy by Colin Dickey - This technically just came out and I plan on reading it soon. I'm generally interested in seeing the role that conspiratorial thinking has had on politics, going back to things like the John Birch Society.

    • Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World by Naomi Klein - I've never actually read anything by Naomi Klein before, but this one looks particularly interesting; it's about the co-option of genuine discourse and the rise of pseudo-intellectualism.

    • Romney: A Reckoning by McKay Coppins - I think Romney has been one of the more interesting U.S. politicians after his election defeat in 2012 given that he's basically the last of the Rockefeller Republicans. This biography seems to be fairly all-access and I'm particularly interested in reading the Post-2012 section.

    • Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson - I enjoyed Isaacsons' previous biography of Steve Jobs and am curious to see what he does with this one. I've been trying to figure out what has happened with Elon Musk over the last few years that has basically caused him to spiral into (in my opinion) insanity.

    • Tyranny of the Minority: Why American Democracy Reached the Breaking Point by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt - Written by the author of How Democracies Die, this is basically a warning letter on needing to turn things around in order for the Republic to continue to stand.

    • Being Ace: An Anthology of Queer, Trans, Femme, and Disabled Stories of Asexual Love and Connection - As an asexual myself, I've been trying to read the various asexual/aromantic books that have been released recently.

    • Late Fascism: Race, Capitalism and the Politics of Crisis by Alberto Toscano - A general exploration of the rise of fascism in todays' world.

The End and the Death Part 2.

Its the end of the Horus Heresy, it's THE battle between glorious and ruinous powers.

I've been reading those books since the first one released and have the full set at home. Truly feels like the end of an era of reading for me.

The new stuff just doesn't cut it.

I don't know, I really liked "The Lion: Son of the Forest". The development of the Lion as a character was refreshing.

The most recent "AND ANGRON CAME BACK AND CORRUPTED EVERYTHING LOLOLOL" in the lore just made my eyes roll back in my head in a painful way.

Yeah, spot on really. I want Abaddon to go down, badly. Like comes up against the Lion and just gets kicked to death nearly... Then he gives into the God's wholly and really goes mad with power....

I'm down for that. But as long as it sacrafices huge amounts of himself and his power. Maybe it fractures chaos and The God's themselves?

At the moment it's just... Boring. Even End and the Death part 1 felt very on point. Simply because Abnett just talked at the reader, rather than taking them in any journey. Feels a crap way to end such a glorious epic.

Dembski-bowden should have got the final books. His writing style is golden.

I agree with everything you said. There is too little trade off for worshiping chaos right now.

Dragonfired! I can't believe Orkonomics is not a mainstream book, as it is one of the best takes on fantasy I've seen recently. I was luck enough to start reading this series this year, and as soon as I've finished Son of a Liche, Dragonfired was announced to come out in this Fall.

Can't wait either for Alecto the ninth. Although a release date was not announced yet, I believe it is coming up this year. Also waiting for the sequence of The Blacktongue Thief, although it seems it will be a prequel, and I really wanted a continuation on the story.

Still looking forward to The Winds of Winter and Doors of Stone. A man can have his hopes!

It’s a YA series, but the audio books have an INCREDIBLE reader who does all sorts of voices and brings so much life to the book. It feels very Harry Potter-y and I enjoy that.

Book 4 is scheduled for Q4 this year and I’m really excited, the end of the last book was very interesting.

Menewood by Nicola Griffith! I enjoyed Hild and absolutely loved Spear, so I’m incredibly excited for her follow-up to Hild!

Jasper Fforde's follow up to Shades of Grey. They keep putting off the publication and it's frustrating!
