What board games have you played this week (to 12th June)?

Personally I've received Earth and managed to get in a game at two players and another at five. I like the big stack of cards and the fact it plays so fast, but I think I prefer Ark Nova, which adds the tile laying puzzle too.

Earth does look funky by the end though, with all the shoots sprouting up from the table.

Also managed to get in a couple of rounds of Fugitive, the card based hidden movement game from Tim Fowers. I think this is an excellent little game to fill half an hour at the end of the evening. I keep eyeing up the events cards it comes with but have not yet been brave enough to actually play with them.

What have you all been playing?

I've been playing a lot of The Crew: Mission Deep Sea, and some Decrypto (online on BGA).
I played some Soviet Kitchen in-person, an pretty simple app-driven game about color mixing.
It's maybe more of a puzzle than a game but I finished the last part of the excellent puzzle mystery box The Emerald Flame.

Recently picked up the rest of the expansions for Spirit Island, and Red Cathedral, so I'm itching to get those played, but no idea when that'll be.

Did you play The Quest for Planet Nine? I think I personally prefer Quest over Mission, but that seems to be a minority opinion.

Yeah, I've played both. I've played a lot of trick-taking games and personally just find the tasks in Deep Sea more interesting than just winning certain cards in a particular order.

Decrypto is excellent, really love that game. But it's a struggle to teach.

I recently Recieved my Kickstarter edition of The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requim card game and played it with my wife once, and then with a few buddies of mine last night for the second time. I like it, but I want to play it more to understand all of the mechanics and specific word definitions. Anyone else play? Or was anyone else part of the kickstarter?

Maybe it makes sense to make a spoiler thread when new sets are being spoiled? I think Commander Masters spoilers start up in a couple weeks.

If you have the luxury, look into PR-EDH, which is basically old school EDH; it has the same rules, but the last legal set is New Phyrexia.

But with brass all the rules videos are pretty long. I’ve watched some games so I think I have a good enough understanding to get them to commit though.

I did! My group watched the rules video and honestly, I think that was a mistake. It does go very in depth, but I feel like it takes far too long. I think you can go over the basics (turn structure, what you can do on a turn, resources/networks) in just a couple minutes and explain more as more concepts become relevant, such as ending the era/differences between rail and canal.

Despite being pretty complex, it was actually really easy to pick up and understand, while still allowing for strategic depth. Everything seems to balance out quite well, with players incentivized to provide resources to other players, and it never seemed like someone was untouchable in the lead (at least until the last few turns). Overall, fantastic game and I know I'll be playing it again soon.

I picked up New York Zoo by Feuerland Spiele distributed by Capstone Games. It is a super cute family friendly game where you try to fill up your zoo the fastest. This is assisted by breeding the animals, such as meerkats, flamingo, artic foxes, penguings, etc. Once the enclosure if fully bred with a species, you can trade it in for amusement park amenities or rides, which will help fill up your board spaces. Very simple game and super cute designs.

I've been longing for a fresh RPG experience for some time, but I haven't pulled the trigger on anything. I'm a fan of the Souls games and I really enjoyed the Witcher, but I'm feeling in the mood for something a little more on the traditional side of fantasy RPG's that offers a variety of classes and/or character builds. Two that have stuck out for me are Dragon's Dogma and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. If any of you can vouch for either of those games or can think of an RPG that would scratch that itch, I'd love to hear your feedback.

Nice to see tabletop-related stuff! I've been playing Oath lately, and enjoying it a lot. The cute aesthetics hide under them a proper full wargame, I like it a ton. The combat, despite being seemingly a little random with all the dice you're rolling, has quite a bit of depth for which to make strategies around, I find.

The "persistence" of the world is an interesting element as well, especially since most people's game started from the same "seed" but progressed differently as different factions took over the land and moved the capital. It's a very interesting experience that keeps making me come back to the table for more of it.

I've also been very tempted by the NISEI version of android netrunner. Has anyone here played it and would they recommend it?

EDIT: also my weekly pathfinder game has been put on hold while we wait for Kingmaker to be released on Foundry. I know Abomination vaults is a well loved Adventure but I think the players prefer less combat and more social elements/ problem solving. Any recommendations for an adventure path on foundry that we can play in the meantime?

My D&D group switched to Pathfinder 2e the last few sessions. It's definitely a learning curve using a new system after using D&D 5e for like 95% of my tabletop experience. The 3 action economy sounded pretty crazy at first, but now actually playing it I realize how many things our party has been wanting to do takes multiple actions, or certain spells can be cast with greater potency if you use more actions.

I have not played any game that gives a similar experience, it's such an incredible game.
