Tildes Game Giveaway Thread: Welcoming a New Year

Important: This will be a noisy thread. If you do not wish to see it in your feed, please use the "Ignore" feature to hide it!

2021

Enough has been said about 2020 — let’s put some good out into the world in the form of game giveaways as we welcome a new and hopefully brighter year!

Gifters

Post your available games, the platform and method of delivery, rules for your giveaways (e.g. first-come first-serve, random draw, etc.), and any additional info or requirements. Feel free to get creative!

Giftees

Request giveaways according to the gifter's guidelines!

Rules

Anyone can choose to be a gifter, giftee, or both! Giveaway rules are set by individual gifters, but there are handful of guidelines everyone should follow:

  • No grey market keys! Only giveaway games from reputable sources. If you're not sure what this means, please ask.

  • Requests for games should be done in the thread, but if the gift is a key, those should be delivered by PMs only. Please don't post keys publicly, even obfuscated ones.

This was undoubtedly a tough year for many people out there, myself included. Tildes, however, was one of the bright spots for me in this darker time — a calm port in a very stormy sea. We have a lot of amazing people here, and I want to do something to help spread some love around to all of you who make this site a great place to be. Thus, I decided to do the following...

    Give Gratitude; Get Games

    Giveaway Instructions

Giveaway Type: Standard giveaway (all entrants will receive a copy of their desired game)

    Delivery method: Steam keys

    Entry Requirements:

    1. Send a PM to another Tildes user with a personal note letting them know what you appreciate about them.

    2. Respond to this comment with your choice of game.

    Additional Details:

    • You can choose to send more than one PM to more than one user (please do, there are SO many people here deserving of appreciation!), but each entrant will only receive one game.

    • Please do NOT name the person(s) you appreciated in your post, or post the contents of your appreciation(s) publicly. It’s meant to be a private affirmation!

    • Please make your comment genuine. I’m not trying to force anyone to be disingenuous with these appreciations, I’m instead wanting to provide an impetus for others to put their honest feelings about others into words. The last thing I want is for someone to get a hollow appreciation in their inbox just so the person who wrote it can get a free Steam game. This is about finding an excuse to affirm someone, rather than fabricating an affirmation as a means to an end.

    • I am NOT eligible as an appreciatee (is that a word?), so you must choose someone else! I’m not doing this to farm compliments, and I’m well aware that people tend to value someone who’s giving out free stuff. :)

    • You do NOT need to provide proof to me that you’ve sent your PM(s). This is entirely trust-based, and I trust our userbase here.

    Game Selection

I have chosen three games that I very much enjoyed (and which were available at low enough prices that I could buy them in bulk to meet demand). Though inexpensive, these are not chaff or fodder, and I can personally vouch for each as a quality gaming experience in its own right — something I personally stand behind and consider worth playing. Choose the one that sounds most interesting to you!

    • Quantum Conundrum

This is a first-person puzzle game from the lead game designer for Portal. The similarities between the two are evident, but I think this game suffered unfairly from being constantly compared to its predecessor, as nearly everywhere you go people critique it for not living up to the (incredibly high) bar set by the first game. I think it’s a perfectly enjoyable game in its own right, and one that I think more people would enjoy if they stopped looking at it for what it’s not and instead celebrate it for what it is.

    • A Normal Lost Phone

I strongly recommend against looking up ANY information about the game before you play, even the store page. This is a short narrative adventure about finding a stranger’s phone and going through its contents to find out about its owner. The game is mostly reading with some light puzzles, and it takes less than two hours to get through, but I thought it was a compelling and interesting way of telling a modern story in a modern method.

    • Virginia

This is a first-person narrative adventure told entirely without dialogue. The game features a fantastic art-style, cinematic flair (e.g. jump cuts), and a disjointed, surreal storyline. Responses to the game’s plot are very mixed, with many frustrated at the game’s deliberate opaqueness, with others seeing this as one of its biggest strengths. I fall in the latter camp, and found the game genuinely compelling to experience even though I’m far from certain I actually understood what was going on.

Oh this is physical? Cause I’m in Brazil, I’m pretty sure shipping cost would be astronomical :(

I have a bunch of games from the last month's Humble Bundle that aren't going to support Linux. However, they should run through Proton and I mostly just wanted to give something away—I've listed the ProtonDB ratings next to the game.

    Giveaway Instructions

Simply comment the game you want, and it will be given to you (first-come-first-serve). Additional games may be listed, ordered by what you want the most, but they will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

These games are from Humble, but I will likely be giving out the Steam keys by default, since I've heard that people have been banned for key trading when they just gave gift links away. However, you can still request a Humble gift link if you want; I'm not too worried about it.

    Game Selection

In particular, the Frog Detective series came highly recommended; they're supposed to be short and funny so do consider them if you haven't played them yet.

Anybody into flight sims and/or a decent VR game should check out Elite Dangerous. It's a pretty awesome game, and you only really need the base game to get started with it.

Highly, highly recommend Hyper Light Drifter for any 16-bit-era action-adventure fans. It's challenging but never unfair, the combat is glorious, the soundtrack is immersive, the art is spectacular.

I've got a bunch of random stuff from Humble Bundles that I likely won't play. Humble Bundle is warning me that "Steam will not provide extra giftable copies of games you already own" and there are a few cases where it's not 100% clear if I already redeemed them, so I apologize in advance if any of them end up not being giftable.

    Instructions for giveaway:

Just comment with the name of the game you want and a recommendation for a book/album/movie/podcast you liked in 2020.

Click here for the games If it's not crossed out, it's still available. I may post more later if there's continued interest.

Check the steam pages for platform compatibility:
